Sales?

Robert stated in an interview about a week or so after RTM, that the NGX had already outsold all of their previous products. Since PMDG is a private company, they are under no obligation to release ANY company numbers to the public. Maybe Robert will write a book someday.. I would buy it. I know PMDG must be doing well to be able to support the outlandishly high salaries demanded by Ryan and the others. :) Is there going to be an IPO? Does anyone work for the IRS?

Well, if you look around at screenshot threads in different flightsim forums for fsx, you will notice than almost every second picture has the NGX in it... so i suppose it sells quite well tongue.png

I hope they sold at least as many packages as there are useless topics in the NGX thread Whistle.gif

Hi, I think this post by Aceridgey is at least very impertinent, the sales of products by PMDG is their business and nobody elses. Nothing further to add. richard welsh.

I was just trying to be even-handed guys. Preferences are entirely individual, and there's one thing about flight simming. Except for the large, but still small group who fly on-line, it is a solitary activity carried out in the privacy of one's own home!
it's not a preference. For fsx one is vastly superior.. The only reason to buy the other one is for fs9 or if you have a home pit.

Nah, Mike I won't go there at all.

Nah, Mike I won't go there at all.
well I own both and one of them I have not flown since august 4th. The VC on the NGX is atleast a full generation ahead of the Ifly, systems are more detailed on the NGX, full lighting control, The HUD on the NGX is greatThe only advantage the IFLY has is the 2d panels and SDK that was released witht he plane I don't fly 2d so that does not matter to me, as far as the SDK goes I think PMDG should try to release it with the plane or close to release. On the IFLY I also had a lot of texture issues that I was told was a problem in FSX.. such as the knobs on the MCP turning into blobs under certian lighting conditions. I never really bothered complaining about it to ifly support because every video of the Ifly I have seen that was taken around dusk had the blob knobs. Also what is up with the panel lighting not being controlable, it turns itself on. I did bring up the blob knobs in the forum only to have ###### say it was a fsx problem.A lot of people get on PMDG about missed dates and broken promisses but how is that Ifly feature pack coming along?I know this is probably going to get locked now but why do we have to go on pretending that these are two equal products, they clearly are not. I don't work for either company so why should I sugar coat it.I don't know how anybody can fly both planes and say they are close.

20 000 PMDG NGX and if PMDG told me this is nowhere near the breakpoint for profit I would believe them. Incredible number of manhours must have gone into this. Definitely thousands, if not tens of thousands. Plus marketing plus the support cost plus I imagine licensing fees....

Mike, let's not continue to exchange words that could be considered aggressive and defensive. I am in this forum because I fly the PMDG. But I also fly the iFly which has some strong points as well. I am not interested in setting up one of those debates where the fanatics come out to defend their team regardless of the result. However I am interested in knowing what a successful business model is for FSX aircraft, and some of the vast scenery projects like Orbx, UTX and GEX, and VFR Photoreal in the UK etc etc. We are however never going to be told I suspect for sound commercial reasons, but I conjecture that it would be impossible without a global network of part-time programmers, some possibly on a profit-sharing arrangement. With VPNs, cloud servers and the like, the work could flow through the network in no time. Both in recent aircraft releases and new scenery the boundaries have been, and are being pushed ever outward. It's a good time for us customers and I hope that it is sufficiently profitable for the developers.

KInd regards,

Ian McPhail
