December 16, 201114 yr Moderator Some people know what their product is worth. Just because something is free does not make it better - just cheaper. At $80 a pop for AS2012 for a new user, REX 2.0 has ZERO competition. Of course! Because AS2012's weather engine is in a class by itself. Someday REX might get there - but not soon. December 16, 201114 yr That might remain to be seen, with the new announement on REX Essential, which is what this thread is about, and not many having the weather engine in 2012 yet...I already have REX2, which I love, and am excited to try their new free update when it comes out. May just be all I need... Don B
December 16, 201114 yr Commercial Member Sorry, love REX and the Free update is an incredible offer but I put absolutely zero amount of faith in their "announcements" ever since the Sim Air announcement six plus months ago!I'm sure Tim and the REX team will deliver as promised but when? In the mean time I'll be using AS2012 which has been released. When Essential is released I'll download it for sure, since they say it'll be a free but wont be holding my breath until then.Blaze - I understand your feeling about the announcement in regards to SIMAIR. In hindsite we were premature. But we will deliver on SIMAIR and we will be letting more out of the bag about it in the VERY near future.Essential is just around the corner. We will be delivering 2 versions. A version users of REX 2 and a version for Overdrive users. Reed StoughManaging PartnerREX SIMULATIONS website: www.rexsimulations.comsupport: www.rexaxis.com
December 16, 201114 yr Strange 'coincidental' timing for that small business the addon companies are in. However, looking forward to it and of course liking the free nature. Thanks for the HU, Stephen.
December 16, 201114 yr Yikes... competition is good right?Just to make sure I've got my math done... December 17, 201114 yr Yikes... competition is good right? And tight indeed, which is the aspect I'm worried about from time to time. My talks about the REX announcement got deleted from the ASE thread. And then you have FSrealWX which is totally free :-)True that is and it still gets frequent updates and stuff. I've donated over there, well worth in my eyes. I think the initial tip came from you, so thanks.Anyone know if the wind shifts at cruise are taken care of by the REX wx engine or does it rely on fsuipc? I know with ASE you can use DWC to prevent it.I'm using ASE in DWC and I don't think that any weather addon should miss the FSUIPC features in that regard you mention. The FSX engine seems wonky and FSUIPC helps a ton. So, unfortunately, I can't report about any miracles with a certain weather addon, but they all offer slightly different character traits of course, with none doing magic on the windshifts. But FSUIPC does. Thanks, Pete! Lets see if AS2012 or the new REX are able to change anything vital in current and final FSX. The price battle obviously is won by REX.
December 17, 201114 yr Author I am looking forward to the new weather engine as well as what else Tim might have up his sleeve. I recently had to reinstall windows and FSX so have not gotten around to installing Overdrive, just REX 2.0. I guess I should get the lead out and get it done before the update.Kind regards,
December 17, 201114 yr Just treated myself to AS2012 and uninstalled REX. I guess I'll reinstall again and try out that update Cheers, Bert AMD Ryzen 5900X, 32 GB RAM, RTX 3080 Ti, Windows 11 Home 64 bit, MSFS 2024
