December 16, 201114 yr Hello Everyone,REX has made an incredible announcement about a massive upgrade with a new weather engine and interface program. The best thing is that it is absolutely free to REX owners. Here is the link:http://www.realenvir...161#entry101161Great news!Kind regards,

December 16, 201114 yr Cool!Interesting timing, though, on the heels of HiFi Tech's AS2012...And nice list of improvements, additions and fixes. And $free... Cheers,- jahman.
December 16, 201114 yr Considering the upgrade price of AS2012 for ASE owners is close to 39 dollars this is tempting. The only thing that concerns me is HiFi is known for having a better wx engine. sounds like Tim has done a lot of work on it. Anyone know if the wind shifts at cruise are taken care of by the REX wx engine or does it rely on fsuipc? I know with ASE you can use DWC to prevent it. Eric
December 16, 201114 yr So, the two heavyweight contenders are going head-to-head.And the winner is...The punters! Regards, PD
December 16, 201114 yr Sorry, love REX and the Free update is an incredible offer but I put absolutely zero amount of faith in their "announcements" ever since the Sim Air announcement six plus months ago!I'm sure Tim and the REX team will deliver as promised but when? In the mean time I'll be using AS2012 which has been released. When Essential is released I'll download it for sure, since they say it'll be a free but wont be holding my breath until then. December 16, 201114 yr At $80 a pop for AS2012 for a new user, REX 2.0 has ZERO competition. $40 / (1 - 40%) = $40 / 0.6 = $67 for a new user. Cheap, it's not. Nice UI, though!Cheers,- jahman.
December 16, 201114 yr At $80 a pop for AS2012 for a new user, REX 2.0 has ZERO competition. On Simmarket it looks like the asking price is going to be about 50 euros for a non-discounted purchase without Vat this coupled with 20% off for the first two weeks for new users looks like it should end up in the $50-$55 USD range? A little confusing and since it's not listed in the Hi Fi market place yet it's tough to be 100% sure of the end cost to a new user? Expensive; sure but, Hi Fi has given me numerous free upgrades in the past and I support them. Moreover, I feel the AS weather engine is still superior to REX and the textures of AS2012 are really pretty nice and load much faster than REX. Just a couple of things to consider.I really don't want to turn this into a debate of AS vs. REX because in the end we all win since everyone has the option of which Wx engine to use and textures to load. The only program AS2012 has relegated to the recycle bin for me is X-Graphics "RIP" . FEX and REX Overdrive will continue to serve and eventually REX Essential will join the mix.Options and competition is good for all of us, and with so many new announcements and releases it truly is the most wonderful time of the year! December 16, 201114 yr One of the last free markets, computer software. Driving innovation to its maximum. In one corner we have Active Sky 2012 and in the other we have the new REX. Very exiting to watch the competition benefit the end user with rapidly expanding technology to make the FS world a better place for all.Ayn would be so proud. Marc Lynn
