PMDG 737NGX and Microsoft FLIGHT

Featured Replies

I keep my fingers crossed for that we'll have the whole world upon release, instead of only Hawaii. One thing I'm really looking forward to is that it's finally possible to have shadows in the cockpit, and sun shining into the cockpit also. Imagine how awesome it would look in combination with the NGX!!!If Flight is gonna turn out bad, there just must be someone that's eventually gonna make us a Flightsim? Perhaps one of PMDG's secret projects is making their own Flight SImulations platforms! That would be awesome.

MS is more interested in selling 5 million copies of Flight to the BF3 and WoW crowd...
Hey, I have become a BF3 fanatic since going to Seattle! I love it! Wished I could stay alive for more than 4 seconds, but I am getting better. Figure that one out. :(
isnt it a bit too early? They are not even in beta.

Arjen there is a perfectly good simulator just recently released that to all my knowledge has these features. Look into XPL10.

Haven´t we all spent hundreds of bucks for add-ons for FSX? I really hope, we can use the FSX add-ons also in MS FLIGHT!David

I remember when I finally migrated to FSX after buying a new computer a couple of years ago (after buying FSX on release). I bought upgrades or replacements for all my add-ons through gritted teeth because I thought that there wasn't a great enough improvement over FS9 to justify the expense.I suspect that Flight might be the same; upgrade a few of years after release and wondering if it's worth it. I'm hoping that Flight will have improved weather, ATC & flight modelling but I suspect MS will concentrate on graphics to appeal to the masses which is sound business policy but not good for simmers.Speculation is fun :(

MS is more interested in selling 5 million copies of Flight to the BF3 and WoW crowd than the 100,000 hard core simmers. I look for flight to be more of an arcade game than a simulation. Of course, this is all speculation since the marketing genius's at MS think that flying around the same Hawaiian mountain for a couple of years should keep us all woozy about the eventual release. X-plane 10 looks pretty darned good. And P3D is at least being developed and a couple of Big Boys have already thrown in with them.
Well said IFR7700…I will also say thank you to Bill Gates for bankrolling the FS franchise for so long.Only a true Geek could do that.If Steve Ballmer stepped in earlier, business sense would have prevailed, and in all likelihood, there would have been no FSX at all. Now, why would Lockheed invest in Prepar3d if Microsoft was to make yet another serious simulation?Speculation of course…

Oh!....now there`s a thought, good point.

I don't think it's either a good or bad point. It's a point that lacks any resources. It's like taking your friends side on an argument he told you he had with his wife just because you have his side of the story. Actually that's a better scenario than this should get. I can think of several obvious reason why they would invest in it. 1st and foremost being do you honestly think they just did this recently? Do you think for a second that they know anything at all about Flight that others don't just because they are Lockheed? Seriously, do you know how much they might be getting in return for their investment? Any particular deals that were made? All that statement says is like Gerald said and is as much speculation as anything else, if not more so since now we're taking the little that we know (nothing) and basing it as fact on the wider unknown.

I am with Dan. Something tells me there is more to Prepar3D than selling it to the desktop simulation general market. After all, Lockheed is an aerospace company, not a software house. Selling prepar3d might jjust be a nice side income. Pocket money if you wish.

There's no money in selling simulators like Prepar3d for Lockheed Martin. Do you know how much money Lockheed Martin makes on selling weapons? They are responsible for handling the US nuclear weapon arsenal! They dont care about jumping on the hardcore simulator market left by Microsoft.

It could be something as simple as giving an errant brother-in-law something to do.

Actually they do care about getting into the hardcore simulation business, but not for us. The main reason they are developing it is for Government use for combat simulation, of air sea and land operations, as well as other commercial interest. Selling it to us is just a side business. I'm actually surprised they are making it available to anyone, albeit at a price.

Thanks

Oh the pain of going to Flight!! All those add-ons, liveries, downloads, teweeks, hardware set ups. My 100 fps will be reduced to 20 again and I'll need to buy another $4000 computer next year. I hope Flght never gets released. The LD757 is not out, the PDMG 777 is not out. Will those projects be scrapped if Flight is released? But there is no going back. Does anyone start up FS9 when the have FSX?
