January 3, 201214 yr Ron,4X on landing? Are you really trying to land the thing at 4 times say 135 knots?GerryNo Sir, I lied, that entire post.....it was a huge lie. January 3, 201214 yr Real pilots also can't speed up their warp factor. I've never done it and I never will.I get the plane into cruise and the I do some other things in the meantime (watch TV, do some homework or something else) but I never think of speeding up the things.(null)This is what I do....When on VATSIM especially. I just turn on the VNAV and LNAV (or, if the ATC wants to vector me, heading hold) and then watch Fear Factor/go on AVSIM/play Minecraft and then when the ATC calls me I stop those other things and go back to flying. :(true you can do your home work etc watch tv but rw pilots cant do this all they can do is go for a walk down the ilse and chat up the stewardessOr go to the bathroom! i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
January 3, 201214 yr I had to do a real flight from Cape Town to George the other day. I put my pc keyboard in my flight bag, because the aircraft doesn't have an "R" key on the panel. But then I couldn't find anywhere to plug the keyboard into the aircraft so it still took 2 hours to get there. Very frustrating, but I'm chatting to the FBO about fitting a USB port to the panel so I can get there faster in future.
January 3, 201214 yr Author Appreciate the tongue in cheek comments guys, very welcome. The thing I do feel though is that certain people on this forum need to remember is the very fact that they are NOT real pilots! Any fool can sit for eight hours at four in the morning secure in the righteous knowledge they 'aren't cheating'. Sad. -- X-Plane, Mac OS, XSB
January 3, 201214 yr I often use 2x or 4x at cruise altitude (and occasionally during latter part of climb) but always normal speed from TD since that's the fun part. I'm aware of the PMDG advice as regards weather and would not dispute this although I've experienced few issues, all other factors notwithstanding. I accept that sometimes FSX will freeze but usually I can attribute that to other factors such as a Win 7 or AV update. Of course I can disable updates if I chose to do so - my choice.
January 3, 201214 yr Everything is a matter of personal taste. I use time acceleration on long cruise segments or if I don't have much time to spare. That way I get to see some other airports that wouldn't be within reach when only doing short hops. I assume people who fly "without cheating" have ATC and service based failures turned off while they are away letting the plane fly itself? Christoph Kühne

Blighty to Yanksville in realtime. Perhaps the most monumentally dull experience of my life (and I've been to an Ultravox gig..) And when I got there I screwed up the landing anyway.Sad indeed, but to each their own.. Ian
January 3, 201214 yr Darned if I can find it now, but it seems to me I read in the manual 8x was as fast as PMDG recommended. Dennis Trawick Screen Shot Forum Rules
January 3, 201214 yr I have no understanding at all why someone would go to the lengths of creating a flight, filling in FMC's and fuel planning etc and then fly at anything above normal flight time. Defeats the whole process. A complete and utter nonsense. Someone was flying across the UK last night at some silly warp speed. he was flying EGKK to EINN, in crowded UK airspace. When I requested him to not fly accellerated he responded with sorry sir I didn't think it mattered. I would have mattered if had wrecked someone else's flight.Sorry chaps I just dont see the point, this is, my own personal opinion.I know I'll get all the ususal stuff, "oh I haven't got the time" etc etc. Well if thats the case take a shorter flight. You can do so much in an hour, lots of cool flights.Wycliffe

That is one of the reasons why I never fly long haul. My longest flight is usually about 60 or 90 minutes, which is perfect for flying around Europe. Heathrow to Stuttgart, Zurich, to Nice via Salzburg, Barcelona across to Faro etc. I often like the Greek islands, Santorini to Corfu is a great flight. It always seems like cheating to 'up' the sim. But then again, everyone for themselves I guess. January 3, 201214 yr If hauls are longer than 1h or 1.5h I usually warp a good portion at 4X between T/C and T/D.I sincerely dunno how can a 777 future sim pilot watch the screen for 10 hours doing nothing, I find it quite boring to be honest. Edited January 3, 201214 yr by Mark II

I guess I don't fly the heavies as such, so it doesn't enter the equation. If I did however, I'd probably leave the sim on and go about doing something else! I suppose if you're not flying short flights and are in fact flying long haul then what you suggest is probably the sensible thing to do though. I suppose if you're not flying short flights and are in fact flying long haul then what you suggest is probably the sensible thing to do.I fly only short flights, for short I mean no longer than around 2 - 2.5 hours total each.I also like to fly from Zurich to Paris to Rome to Athen to Oslo and so on. I used Level D 767 before 737 NGX and I always warped at 8x during long flights, that's why I wonder how that can be done with the new PMDG bird that is gonna be the 777.Anyway you are right, everyone is free to play as he wishes...but do they take a day off from work or do they fly over the night ? :(BTW Rockliffe, are you the one in the avatar ? You look like a Hollywood star, lucky you, you would have dozens of women :( Edited January 3, 201214 yr by Mark II
