January 6, 201214 yr I wanted to share my feelings about "Flight" and FSX with some quick thoughts. Without being too offensive, Here it goes...Like many I spent years upgrading , installing, and re-installing, looking for the perfect FSX experience. In short I wanted what I'm so grateful to have today. There are three things that made it happen:1) Windows 7 64 Ultimate2) Sandy Bridge OC to 4.8 and GTX 480 Combo (Hardware)3) FSUIPC (Thanks Pete Dowson)The last thing cured the annoying CTDs. No more installing and re-installing. I can now confidently say that FSX is working the way it was meant to work and providing the value I searched for years.I guess I can also add all the great sceneries and airplanes, but it's just too obvious. These payware add-ons do cost money, but they are SOOO worth it. I ask you to find me better scenery than ORBX. Find a better Jet than the Mustang. A better airliner than the PMDG 737NGX, or a better multi than the Realair Duke. I don't think many will disagree if I throw in the Katana 4x.Yes it does take some time, some tweaking, and some money. But FSX, working the way it should, has IMHO absolutely NO competition. So I implore you to look at what we have and enjoy it. We have something special with this new FSX Enhanced Version. I hope each of you finds the joy, that I've been able to find. That's why I've already forgotten MS Flight, or whatever it's called.Cheers! Edited January 6, 201214 yr by DJJose MSFS

January 6, 201214 yr Yep, I would go completely along Jose. Lately, with the things he named, I had a completely satisfying and beautiful flight with NGX from KLAX to KLAS. Everything was smooth, FPS didn't dip below 25fps in VC of NGX, not at landing, not at takeoff, usually had 30 all the time (locked at 30), and it was experience on par.And I am using very very high settings, high LOD, high texture resolutions, also clouds... taken, no AI, but on VATSIM...I decided that my next upgrades are not going to by systematic - probably gonna get SSD for faster FSX loading, a better hardware for my laptop because it's really old, and that's it. My 5Ghz SB is serving me now exactly what I need and maybe, when a next upgrade, same as 920 -> 2600K was, then I will again upgrade, just to keep up! Edited January 6, 201214 yr by Kosta
January 6, 201214 yr Author Wow, a satisfied simmer.... :(Na. Just hypnotized. :LMAO:When you've spent as much money as I have, and you finally experience the benefits, that such a good feeling. :( MSFS
January 6, 201214 yr Well said, Jose! I completely agree. My system is robust enough to handle the type of flying (GA - bush) I find most enjoyable. I have all of the Orbx NA products, a hangar full of very good GA aircraft and a great assortment of FSX utility pgms & hardware - all thanks to the very fine efforts of a great group of third-party developers and dedicated fellow simmers. Not to mention, the many friends I have met here!In short - I believe I am very fortunate, indeed very thankful to be able to enjoy this hobby at the level I do.I'm really not very interested in worrying about MS Flight. I am having a wonderful time exploring my FSX world and I fully expect to continue to do.Y'all take care now!John John
January 6, 201214 yr You are right Jose, after huge swaths of time, talent and treasure FSX works like many of us had hoped that it would one day. Of course there will always be the challenge to keep it that way, as FSX has proved to be as tempermental as a beautiful, tightly stung, expensive, high maintenance mistress. The next traumatic outburst is always right around the corner, even though she is growing more serene the older she gets!Kind regards,

January 6, 201214 yr ....as temperamental as a beautiful, tightly strung, expensive, high maintenance mistress....Kind regards,Of course, you'd know about that stuff eh? DJ, spot on. I would add to your list, turn off the FPS counter and fly. The Katana? :( Too delicate and fussy. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
January 6, 201214 yr I wonder Stephen, where do you sometimes get those words :(It's the suit and tie of course... :wink:As for what DJ said, that is the absolute truth! January 6, 201214 yr My son came for Christmas with his wife and finally asked me how the FlightSim was doing. He knows I love it. I told him that with all the 3rd party addons and such I was in hog heaven. Can I fly he said. Sure, what would you like to fly? Do you have a big jet. Yep sure do. He hopped in to the NGX and tried to take off. Bells and whistles accompanied his attempt but he could not get off the ground. Whats wrong with this piece of ##### game he asked. Nothing I said, but it's not a game. What do you mean it's not a game he said. It's a simulator I responded with a smile. Dad, I am an engineer, trust me, it's a game. Ok I said. Let me line you up with the runway about 5-6 miles out and 2500 feet or so and see if you can land. Crash, Crash again Crash. What is wrong he said. I let him have it. Airspeed to high, AOA way to low.......... It should not be this hard he said. Again, it's not a game, it's a simulator. I then got a little squint-stare from him. I then took him through some of the cockpit procedures and checklists and then showed him how it was done. I got the biggest grin from him that I will never forget. He said he really had no idea whatsoever that "this game" was so complex. We spent a couple of hours going over some of the features of different aircraft, ATC and Aivlasofts Flight Bag. We did a few short hops to some of the ORBX airports using MCE and he was really beginning to show some honest interest. It is fairly difficult to get through to a young engineer sometimes!!!Why do we spend so much valuable time talking about MS Flight, and trying to compare FSX to XPX?FSX is an awesome simulator.RegardsBob Officially retired
January 6, 201214 yr I showed the pmdg 747 to my brother in law who trained as an aeronautical engineer. Fair to say he was very suprised when we started programming the fmc. He knew how some of the systems worked, but no idea about how the fly a heavy jet and no idea a home sim could cover this. Oz Sim Rig: MSI RTX3090 Suprim, an old, partly-melted Intel 9900K @ 5GHz+, Honeycomb Alpha, Thrustmaster TPR Rudder, Warthog HOTAS, Reverb G2, Prosim 737 cockpit. Currently flying: MSFS: PMDG 737-700, Fenix A320, Leonardo MD-82, MIlviz C310, Flysimware C414AW, DC Concorde, Carenado C337. Prepar3d v5: PMDG 737/747/777. January 6, 201214 yr Awesome, finally! I thought I'd never find people who realised that they were actually alive today.Flight! was never going to replace FSX in the next 3-5 years anyway, that's how long it's taken FSX to mature. People still use FS9 and it looks amazing. But the way people have been carrying on you'd think FSX suddenly stopped working too. Even if Flight! is as bad as it appears to be, and even if X-Plane development stops dead, and even if nobody else makes anything at all, we'd only start feeling it a couple of years from now.Chill out and go fire up FSX :)
