third party developers to be blamed for the way Flight has ended up?

Maxter, perhaps they still suffer under the illusion that what they argue matters to MS when that is simply not the case.... :(
And how many times have we seen this reaction through the various iterations of MSFS as well as the other flavors of desktop flight simulations over the years...Unbelievable!!!

Quite common at every iteration really...odd behaviour but at least it wears off for some. :(
Why the "blame game" over your disapoinment with decisions made by companies whose boards you do not sit on?Why the illusion of "the consumer right to throw a hissy fit" until said companies comply with your wishes and desires? Why the "MS owes me" attitude? Why the 3PDs owe me attitude?Solution? Get a grip and deal with the facts. MS "owes you nothing". MS will not be moved by "consumer rights buycotts and other such efforts"The die is cast folks and no amount of "blather" is going to change the facts".
Why? I will tell you why. I can accept that MS can and should decide on what to do about their own software (Flight) . What bothers me and many others is that they lied and mislead us for over a year and half. So many of us put lots of time on these forums and checked MS Flight site week after week for what MS was promising us; This is from their own mouth: "The new "Micorsoft Flight" retains the full fidelity simulation longtime fans have come to expect"..."We can't expect to tell MS how to make money, but we can expect honesty. I am sorry but MS deserves all the slamming they can get here and I will not be shy to spread the word.

...and i'm not sure how you can, with the information available to date, can be certain that that will definitely not come to pass.

This post likens the latest MS Flight news to the FS Community to a "breakup". http://forum.avsim.n...ost__p__2219592In every "breakup" the disapointed party seems to always want to talk about what he/she has done to me and how they are going to spread the word about the low manner in which they've treated and how they will extract some form of retribution.........

This is one hell of a fruitless debate. Up to FSX the MS business model was based on an open platform with the add-on developers part of a strategy to maintain an interest through the evolution of add-ons. Except they made the error of not going to SP2 etc and handicapped the users for ever. They have now decided to change the model. One hopes, and I am sure, that MS knows how to evaluate the market. From that they have made a decision on their business model and time will tell.I have just had my teen to latish teen grandsons around. They are all game and gadget addicts. But like all addicts they thrive on the next shot. When they were here they all completed the missions in Wings of Prey and declared that though fun it was finished for them. So on to the next. (The graphics are pretty good although the flight models are ordinary). So how MS is going to keep this sort of market entertained is going to be fascinating, will FLIGHT become an addicition through a constant flow of add-ons? or will the kids use the money for the next shoot em down game? Or music, or now hundreds of ways to extract there small but regular monies from them. And they can't be junk, because these kids are discriminating as well, and don't like playing with inferior presentations and drop them like a hot cake.I'm too old to be anyone's ######, so for me FLIGHT is going to be part of a fascinating exploratory 2012. But I have a feeling that P3D and FSX (really the same thing) will be the big winners in our market. (ie the pathologically addicted).

KInd regards,

It won't. It will be incompatible with one of the next generations of Windows. You can count on that.
Rubbish - unless Microsoft want to render literally millions of programs post Windows 8 completely useless.

Not at all, Gerry! To the contrary, they have in fact chosen to develop their LIVE store, abeit without the involvement of two of the premier development house in this industry. If the two most highly regarded development houses rejected MS's demands (which included giving up their already established market and their intellectual property rights), why in heaven's name would anyone smaller than them bite the MS Apple (mixed metaphor I know)???
Nevertheless at the end of the day MIcrosoft decided it didn't need them - no matter how well-regarded they were - or any others.

MS didn't decide they didn't 'need them'. 'Them' decided not to work for MS Flight on MS terms! MS will still be looking for 3rd party developers to deliver dlc, but only on their terms.

Correct. They've always been the "whale" and we the "pilot fish" no pun intended. :(

This is a follow up to the previous trade on the matter. Each passing day we discover new information, especially that FLIGHT was not planned as and is not a so called "arcadish" game, and that this is some major 3d party devs which tend to want it to be presented as it.Because they failed to understand the future. 3d party were psycho-rigid on this, they are to be blamed no to be willing to CHANGE.Pré-online store business model is doomed. I said PRE.Which basically is why MS FlightSim franchise was laid down, why people don't get that ?People say : "if there were not 3d party dev work, FSX would be dead right now". Right. But let's face it, FSX died because MS wasn't getting anymore substantial revenue from it. Had Microsoft been running an online store before, maybe we would be in an iterative unnoticed versionning of FS, with an update every x month, in order to be able to install new shinny addons technology (so perpetual new money for MS and 3d party dev). That is what Flight was maybe trying to reach. Pepetual flow of money, so perpetual updates because it keeps the flow up.3d party dev did not understand that. I can see some of them has now pretty big heads and think their products surpass the platform itself. It's not. They won't win. At one point they'll just join silentely the Flight ship if MS execute right, and I hope so.But remember, the community, the end user, has not to take part on one side based on what a leading commercial provider says. We will all give Flight a try beacause it is free, and we will judge the game based on our experience, not on their, and from that i'm totally sure some developper will begin to create quality addons immediately and SELL them... The grumpy old-dadies will still be able to play with their 2006 FSX, (hey and some wrecked papies will still use... FS2004!), but rendez vous in 2013 to see where has Flight been and if it is still relevant to use a 7 years old unmaintained sim. This is a call for change. And it's from MS, this is good point.People want a brand new shinny sim AND want total compatibilty with the previous version. Non sense.NOTHING will keep you from running FSX and Flight side by side, so the one who say "I spent 1.000$ on FSX addons, i won't upgrade", there is no point. Nobody tells you to dump your old stuff, we're telling you that the future is going on and you won't stop it. Keep drive your 737NG while a carrier jet land in Flight, you can, but what the point of trashing Flight.

@ ,You are being a little naive. If PMDG feels that they need to sell their products at a certain price to meet their profit expectations and MS does not provide such an offer, one of two things can happen:1. PMDG will not make products for Flight - current stance.2. PMDG will make products that will take less time to develop and hence will be of lower complexity/quality.Either way, we are not going to get a simulator that matches FSX. We MAY get a better looking VFR tourism by flight product, but nothing more.

Sounds like sour grapes to me :(

@AttilaYou're missing something big : The Market. The Market don't care about who creates what. You just place too much on big names like PMDG or Orbx.If PMDG or Orbx don't create addons for FLIGHT, someone will, and as quality product will be needed, someone will create these quality product.Demand drive. Who cares if the next superb 737 bird is made from another company, provided it is as good or better ?Y'our stuck to current FSX market. Just project yourself in the future. Think about it.

But remember, the community, the end user, has not to take part on one side based on what a leading commercial provider says. We will all give Flight a try beacause it is free, and we will judge the game based on our experience
HelloI tried it and deleted it shortly afterwards, you will not see major developers supporting Flight! because it is not a Simulator. It is a simple game that may interest the pre-teen gamer, but not for much longer than 30 mins. There will be no advanced 737's coming for flight because there appears to be nothing in this framework to support the necessary functions needed in that type of addon.Still who needs an FMC when you can just fly from one golden token to the next as you rack up your score.
