The UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) has closed RnBXclusive.com. The following noticed appeared on its site.Hopefully, action will be taken against similar sites.

10 years imprisonment for downloading a song. But Michael Jackson's "candy man" doctor gets 4 years. This world is completely warped.I'm not condoning downloading music illegally; but can you imagine, for instance, a single mom receiving an extreme fine ("unlimited") for her children downloading songs? Record labels have enough power to effectively destroy someones life.On second thought, I hate that Lil Wayne's cash pile could have been larger. Damn 14 year old pirates:lil-wayne_cash-money.jpg

Note the use of the words maximum.

Meanwhile TPB is deleting all torrents and instead going to magnets. They are compressing their site (supposedly now 90 Mb) so it can be mirrored anywhere. They also moved their domain from .org to .se.And BTW, how hard is it to get to an alternative DNS that will resolve RnBXclusive.com? And have the SOCA ever heard of Tor?I don't really think this is the answer some are hoping for.scott s..

Right. So I could face a maximum of 10 years imprisonment for pirating a song. What's your point? Because that's the one I was trying to make.

In the USA Maximum can actually mean Maximum......Haven't you ever heard of a judge sending a message to others??? Judges in the USA are elected and if it is good for politics....they will have no problem with the Maximum. Cheers

Exactly what I was thinking. The fact that 10 years seems so ridiculous that Gerry felt he should point it out to us just tells me that it shouldn't be 10 years at all.

"The UK's Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA).."That got me wondering if there's a Trivial Organised Crime Agency to deal with, say, kids copying their mates' school work on the sly..

HelloOnly the UK could have a Serious Organised crime agency, anyone else would just take it as a given that organised crime was serious

Are you really suggesting that there should be a fixed sentence that's applicable to everyone who downsloads illegally - the single mum and someone who downloads on an industrial scale for gain?

I suppose we might have serious(ly) disorganised crimes...

You're the only one here suggesting anything, mgh. You're suggesting that "maximum" means "probably won't happen to you." That is your own personal interpretation of the word. The rest of us is taking the threat at face value.Maximum only means the most. There was nothing written in that threat of 10 years maximum imprisonment that suggests a lesser sentence would, could, or likely be used for a single mum. If there was something there that said a single mum could not be sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for downloading a single song, please show us. We will feel much better.

A moment's thought whould have shown that it's impossible to lay down a detailed schudule to cover all eventualities:- single mum 1 download = ?- single mum 2 downloads = ?- single mum 100 downloads = ?- single mum 1000 dowloads, 10 previous convictions = ?etc etcnThat's why the legislature sets the maximum sentence and allows to courts to decide what is appropiate in all the circumstances, with an appeals procedure if necessary.
