February 17, 201214 yr Community,I've noticed a common theme around X-plane over the years, the UI front end is tough to manage versus FSX. I'm wondering if anyone has heard or attempted to create a new UI front outside of X-plane?There are a couple of program for FSX that will create flight plans, pick aircraft, weather and configure FSX settings.Tim
February 17, 201214 yr LOL! When I read the title of the post, I thought you were announcing that somebody had made a decision to modernize the UI.I went "Thank God!!" and clicked to read all the details............ :Cry:Maybe someday. :( We are all connected..... February 17, 201214 yr I noticed in the beta 4 some of the terminology in the Rendering Screen has changed from Insane,(which I keep most of my settings at), to Extreme. I guess that sounds less whimsical :( Donald E. Donovan Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill known to man The 1st is landing.
February 17, 201214 yr The UI is different than FS, it can be easily managed if you use it for any length of time. The problem is that many are so used to the FS organization that it is hard to learn a new system.

The problem is that many are so used to the FS organization that it is hard to learn a new system.I see what you are saying. Its just that for me, out of the dozens Ui's I have fiddled with over the years, nothing I have ever seen strikes me as quite so unnecessarily unfriendly (for what it is doing) as this one.The best analogy I can think of is the difference between Dos and Windows 7.Yeah, DOS may still be lurking (what is a grue?) in the basement, but who wants to deal with it but the software engineers and techies? In the modern age, people have gotten used to a bit more intuitiveness in use. To me the XP10 interface is like DOS, in all its 4 color goodness, jumping up and yelling "Boo!" :lol:And its doing this in front of people used to using IPads and IPhones. February 17, 201214 yr You could always learn to program and make your own UI. :(The difference is that I am not trying to sell a product using one. Should it happen that in the future I do find myself in the position of creating a retail product requiring a UI, then yes, I would in fact try very hard to make it a modern one. February 18, 201214 yr I have no issues at all with the interface. It's easy, it's out of the way unless you need it.
February 18, 201214 yr I find the UI without any fluff and direct to the point. Above all, it works, no need to fix it.
February 18, 201214 yr I think it would look more professional and be easier to use if they used normal sliders in stead of terms like 'tons', 'Siberian Winter','populated', 'filled in', for the Rendering Options. This terms look rather game-like for me. Edited February 18, 201214 yr by Bartbear With kind regards, Bart S.

February 18, 201214 yr I find the UI without any fluff and direct to the point. Above all, it works, no need to fix it.Fair enough.I would only point out that the same line of reasoning could also have led to us still using Edsel's; since they also worked well (for the time) at their primary goal of transporting people from one place to the other. (And I am certain people loved them!)Yet we never seem to stop there. Continual improvement and evolution seems to be a natural stateXPlane9 also "worked" in that it was a usable flight simulator.
