What improvements does Flight have over FSX?

Featured Replies

I'll be sticking with FSX ofc, I'm not willing to either play a free game with hardly any content, or to pay lots more for addons that I already have in FSX (as in world areas/airplanes etc.). Having said that, for me, the performance was exceptionally smooth compared to FSX (with a few reasonably taxing addons), and the graphics were a little better. But nowhere near what they should be capable of producing in this day and age. This was with everything maxed btw.Just feels like a pretty half-hearted demo to me. Back to FSX and nice open areas.

How do you walk around?
Hi Stephen,When you're outside the aircraft on the ground, you can hit the W key to walk forward, the S key to go backward, the A key to go left and the D key to go right. On the joystick I just move the handle forward, backward, and turn by twisting the handle.Best regards,Jim
I also get over 60FPS at 1920x1200 with EVERYTHING maxed in Flight
HelloBut that's just it, there is not very much to Max at the moment, turn everything off in FSX and see what you get in a default aircraft flying around some island where most of the area is water.

Hello JimAnd you can use your toe brakes to stop walking, how cool is that. But they cannot figure out how to use them to stop your aircraft.

You need to fly the hawaiian island expansion and try the Vans rv6a to get a good feel for what flight is and can be. There's enough terrain here to keep me flying for a good while yet, the airports are well modelled. The cost is trivial by fs standards, less than on add-on ga aircraft for fsx. If you've got any interest at all in ga flying you'd be crazy not to give it a proper try.

How do you walk around? I have been trying to see the battleship, but can't get close with a plane. :Nerd:
  1. Park your plane.
  2. Press E to exit the plane
  3. Use the keyboard or your yoke/stick to walk
  4. Use the hat switch to change direction
  5. Use the R key (or assigned button on a yoke/stick to Run

Yes, perhaps. But I'm more of a "high-flyer" than GA person. At the moment anyway, tastes change. I won't be uninstalling it, I might give it the odd go now and then, I'm just not really willing to pay to play, which is essentially what this is, on a more gradual basis.
I like the fact you can actually walk around. FSX has always had difficulties with that capability.Best regards,Jim
I hear that the next DLC will be called "Hike" :lol:No, actually it is cool to be able to walk: we can now to a walk-around.

Thanks guys. I will just land this baby, shut down FSX, start Flight and take a walk :Nerd: .

Actually, doing some virtual "sightseeing" is in and of itself quite entertaining! I'm constantly amazed at the sophistication and level of detail in many of the structures! Down to and including the chiseled names on building facias for example. Awesome!

Have you been able to cross a bridge on foot? I tried after the first aerocache mission and couldn't walk on the bridge...

No, unfortunately the 'crash boxes' prevent us from walking on bridges, ramps, etc. Pity, as that would've been neat. Beware that there's at least one bridge in Flight where the 'crash box' is some 500' above the bridge. Makes for a rather sudden stop it does!

The toe brakes are a known bug on release that the devs have said they are fixing. I feel myself having to defend Flight here even though I'm not on the MS payroll (Steve - call me). Guys, it's been out for 24 hours, it's far more stable than FSX even after multiple service packs, the performance is beautiful and you can get the base pack for free. The toe brakes will work, give the developers a chance.

Careful. If you don't park the plane in a safe spot, it can roll away, and you might never see it again.

Hey Stephen! I have an idea! We could both startup Flight, then startup multiplayer, exit our aircrafts and then chase each other around the island of Hawaii! :LMAO:Best regards,Jim

Count me in! It is a lot warmer in Hawaii than here in New Brunswick at -10 degrees Celcius! Let me get in my shorts and sneakers!
