March 1, 201214 yr I can already Imagine the combo flight!/chat meetings."Hey, Sam? I am getting tired of these actuarial tables. Gonna do some snap rolls.......""Stan!! you almost clipped Susan's wing! Stop ogling her intakes and stay in formation! Now, about these third quarter projections......"EDIT: on a more serious note, this brings up a suggestion for the Flight! team: two players in the same cockpit of a two seater with one pilot in an instructional role...... March 1, 201214 yr Count me in! It is a lot warmer in Hawaii than here in New Brunswick at -10 degrees Celcius! Let me get in my shorts and sneakers!Yikes! -10 degrees Celcius? Hope it warms up soon there in Canada. I have to take my nap as I just got home from the golf course playing in 60+ degree and sunny weather here in Northern Virginia. Best regards,Jim
March 1, 201214 yr And well, I think the best improvements are the ones which allow it to be played by people like me.... a teenager with a medium-end laptop Excellent point!
March 1, 201214 yr To answer the topic title:I've replied this below quote back in September in the Prepar3D forums (Sorry I don't know to link a thead). Anyway, not too much members has agreed with my reply, but still this is yet my thought: MS-Flight is a "Social" game, so don't and I did not expect it to be a FSX "next version".Quote for September:"It (Prepar3D) won't compete MS-Flight because MS-Flight will not be FS11. MS-Flight will be a "casual gamer" easy way game which will include a social networking (like XBox on Live) to fly with friend nothing more. It is not headed to be a complex sim in anyway like FSX is. So I don't know why some people think and expect it to be a FS11, it was clearly explained at the first announcement of MS-Flight."
March 1, 201214 yr Well one of the things I suspect people miss, because the sim carries it off so well is the number of objects! A zillion trees and buildings with shadows. High quality water reflections, cockpit shadowing, improved runway illumination by landing lights, smoother frame rates, no extreme texture stretching and distortion on sheer rock faces, complete lack of blurries.........All things that require max settings in Fsx, and done so smoothly by the improved engine that we barely notice it.lack of Blurries ?I took this in the higher parts of the island - almost looks like further away is higher res ? Sim is maxxed out - and as you can see Frame rates are very high and goodit actually looked worse in motion - the odd thing was it looked like initially the cliffs were high res - then they suddenly dropped in resolution ...just like you get with FSX and blurries ... my frame rates were consistently high so I'm sure it wasn't the sim trying to adjust for frame rate Edited March 1, 201214 yr by Buckster

I have noticed people beginning to report intermittent ones, and I have been looking for them now, too. Seems I can only get them while flying in very low, slow conditions and even then not often and only for an instant. At higher levels I cant seem to get them at all. We are all connected..... March 2, 201214 yr @ Canuck55Off topic, but I started with PSION too on Sinclair Spectrum. I have always in working order ;-) Btw I agree with your post...Regards,Richard PortierWow, those were the days... I remember watching my older brother trying to land in that sim; it was next to impossible.http://www.worldofspectrum.org/infoseekid.cgi?id=0001797I think one of Flight's biggest improvements is getting rid of that annoying stuttering with a far better game engine.
March 2, 201214 yr I spent years since flight simulator 2 not being able to land properly more often crashing than not. Even with the 40 flight simulator adventures book I still had a lot of trouble. I skipped flight sim 95 to 2000. Finally in fs 2002 and fs2004 finally learned how to land correctly with machado's lessons and tutorials on the web. Then I really went through the aviation training from private pilot simulated lessons to instrument only in various weather and visbility scenarios using the sectional and landing charts , timing to precision in seconds MDA , FAF etc. dual props, then to jets only. Now mostly PMDG 737NGX simulating Delta air lines listed flights airnav.com; An occasional transoceanic flight using PACOTS or NATs in the PMDG747 or PMDG MD-11Then one day last year I try Flight Simulator III using DOSbox. and am able to do all the safe landings and patterns and correctly using trim(amazed they still had that then!) I could only dream about flying and landing that well in the mid 80's. Made me appreciate the genius of Artwick and how much FSII and III still got so much right back then in the midst of those staircase vector graphics.Anyways, Flight kind of reminds me of that game in the late 90's. "Flight Unlimited" or something by Looking Glass Studios(?) A limited scenery dense area. but emphasis on single prop aerobatic flying fun. Trying to appeal to the same market segment that Flight is now. Maybe Apple should do their own Flight sim for the iphone and ipad. haha, iFlight. Edited March 2, 201214 yr by krylite
March 2, 201214 yr Hey Jim,How do you walk around? I have been trying to see the battleship, but can't get close with a plane. :Nerd:Kind regards,Others have already answered how - but this is one of the great things about Flight! I landed on Ford Island and walked over to (yes, including walking on water) the Arizona Memorial. Couldn't get up the docking ramp and inside, but was able to walk around it. Received an aerocache award - but the best part was, having been there many times, how "right" it felt. Also, Stephen, I want to say "thank you" to you and several others for your positive, meaningful, and well thought out posts before the forum closure. Flight is definitely not "all it can be" yet, but it's a blast to fly and it has great potential!
March 2, 201214 yr Author Anyways, Flight kind of reminds me of that game in the late 90's. "Flight Unlimited" or something by Looking Glass Studios(?) A limited scenery dense area. but emphasis on single prop aerobatic flying fun.Yes, Flight Unlimited is exactly what came to my mind too :)But there is a huge difference. The quality of scenery in Flight Unlimited was years in advance of what MSFS had to offer at that time. We got a high-resolution photorealistic scenery area with a 3D landscape (all MSFS was offering was a flat world covered with generic tiles and a couple of box-shaped buildings). So it was a breakthrough in flight simulator graphics at the cost of flying in a small area only. With Flight, we get scenery that has no revolutionary advantages over the 5-year-old FSX, and that is easily surpassed in quality by many add-on products for the 5-year-old FSX. Trees moving with the wind are nice, but they are irrelevant while flying. And on the ground, the graphics quality correspond to 10-year-old games like Grand Theft Auto III, only that in GTA, you had cars, people and trains moving around, and yes, other airplanes and helicopters in the sky!
March 2, 201214 yr No popping autogen, no stutterings, no BSOD, improved cockpit and all around shadows and more.......I've got popping and stuttering, so I guess it depends on ones computer setup. The autogen popping and stuttering isn't as bad as in FSX though. Seems like autogen is loaded in groups because I get whole neighbourhoods or forests that pop in as I approach them, instead of single objects. It is at quite a distance though and mostly visible when you flight high. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
March 2, 201214 yr No popping autogen, no stutterings, no BSOD, improved cockpit and all around shadows and more.......Really? You have all those problems with FSX? Wow. Check the forums and you can get that fixed.I see no point in trying flight. Waste of time and hard drive space IMHO.
March 2, 201214 yr Really? You have all those problems with FSX? Wow. Check the forums and you can get that fixed.I see no point in trying flight. Waste of time and hard drive space IMHO.I've myself never had BSOD, as for popping autogen can you please send me a link where I can fix that in FSX...can you also show me a rig running FSX at max settings with Orbx scenery.... stutterings free....please....of course you can run FSX pretty good at low settings...what's the point, why buying good scenery if you don't max out. Here is a vid I made showing what you can do with FSX in DX10, Orbx scenery, all maxed out but car traffic at 22%, that include all the FPS killers like bloom +++Do not argue about what you can do with FSX, just make a vid and show us.
March 2, 201214 yr Being a "lighting fanatic" I'm enormously pleased that at long last, landing and taxi lights actually ILLUMINATE any object on which they fall, even in the daytime!I also love the dynamic shadow system. Diving down into the shadows of mountains is truly beautiful. It gives me perception of realism well beyond that of FSX. The lighting gives you an accurate feeling of time of day and gives you a greater idea of where you are relative to other objects and the sun.
March 2, 201214 yr I'm surprised no one has mentioned flight dynamics yet, isn't that what flight simulators are supposed to be about?I too am surprised to see this single facet so ignored :) - The flight dynamics in Flight really do make FSX feel very old. For me the number one most important facet of a flight simulator is getting the flight part right. For me, Flight feels several generations ahead of FSX.On a side note: I'm running 2560x1600 with a first release i7 and GTX275 card and my framerates are *awesome* on 'high'. I can't tell you my actual FPS because I really don't care - it's fast enough that I don't need to see the actual number. So refreshing to not have to refer to the FPS in the corner of the screen.
