Are you kidding me, have you looked at Orbx forums lately....peeeeeeeeeelease....
No...I have PMDG and REX in mind when I say that.sorry about that. You cannot deny Microsoft went the money route, like I said before, it sucks. IMHO they could have made a much better platform, I mean come on, they're Microsoft. lol

Yes but FSX was limited with its scenery, I'm sure if FSDT could work with Flight's engine, it would be much better than what Microsoft produced (I'm not saying the quality is bad, just not as good as it could be). We'll see where the game goes, it's still very early in it's development, and there is a lot of potential. It's just a little disappointing that I have to wait even longer for an improved sim.0Selective QuoteQuoteMultiQuote
Yes, I do agree that what you see in Flight is not the best MS could have done. But considering that they are doing scenery in a larger scale in conjunction with planes and missions, some little detail has to be omitted. It is certainly disappointing that we are not getting a full package at once, but I believe this time around a little more waiting will get us a more a refined sim that before.

Businesses that don't "go the money route" also don't tend to stay in business very long. Just saying.Note that (apparently, based on some names in the credits and some one-sided discussion of negotiations) 3rd parties can develop for Flight... just not independently. Subcontracting the work out does have the drawback of forcing everyone to go through MS, letting them collect a toll along the way, but it also allows ease of access with offering everything available in a single location, and also (I would expect) sets a minimum quality standard for releases.

No problems, I was sure you put all 3PD in the same boat, sorry.
Are you referring to the fact the Orbx won't be posting any release date, upcoming project and offer discount?
You think...read this thread.... http://forum.avsim.n...%e2%80%9d-orbx/I'm just calling a spade a spade...now tell me if you think they care about their customers...

When we talk about the 3PD market, I don't think anyone who has been around for a while could doubt the care and commitment many put into Thier products, or how much has been given to the community.I just personally think that comparing Microsoft and the 3PDs is apples and oranges. It's true that you will get more detail out of a company that primarily produces planes (for instance) for a living, but in the DLC Microsoft is essentially doing it all. They created the engine, the graphics (some recycled) the sounds, the planes and accompanying flight models, several airports...... And did this at a quality close to the best 3PD, not to mention releasing most of it for $20We all know how much we pay for quality 3PD stuff, and combined with the first island (and a plane) this has to be one of the sim deals of the century! The fact is, that if a third party did this for fsx, we would be all over it, and very little of this odd reluctance.

I missed that part of your post....let me tell you something, I know about some stuff but....shuuuut! keep it for yourself..... Flight was rushed out, incomplete with upcoming updates and patches...they did not want to wait any longer....shuuuuut!Of course MS went for the money, why would they not......

Considering that Flight does not even have a forum in which to voice an opinion, I don't see how Flight DLC and "Customer Support" can even come up in the same sentence. As for $20 for something like Hawaii, ask yourself the question, is $20 too much for a DVD that you know you don't really want to watch. Now ask the same question if you know that that's the only DVD you can watch for the next two months and there is no other entertainment.Of course $20 is too much. With Flight, MS is trying to cache in not only on the reputation of the MSFS franchise, but on the reputation of 3PD payware products. Value is different for everyone, but just because you can afford it, it does not mean you get good value for your money.

Yes...but you can't compare Microsoft, a multi billion dollar organization, and third party developers. I think Microsoft is just being greedy at this point.Don't get me wrong, I bet the software developers aren't making enough, but the heads of the Flight crew are probably raking in the money.

The dvd is the only one you can watch? What happened to FSX? Or XPlane?I suspect the operative phrase here is "Know you don't really want to watch"That has nothing to do with the objective value of the deal. That's all subjective, and has to do with emotional factors MS is unlikely to take responsibility for.

Except that is not the only DVD you can watch for the next two months. FSX is still here with an astonishing amount of 3PD addons.By comparing Hawaii DLC to any other addon on the market, it is a good deal regardless whether you can afford it or not. When is the last time you get to buy a whole region of scenery with detailed airports and a plane with missions all for $20?

Agree with the level of detail, there is a lot of work on those airports including all the fans and ducting on the roof. This takes time.Price seems right to me...My only reserve about the airport and the building in general in Flight is their lack of color rendering. Everything seems a palet of pastel color with very low saturation. It looks as different shade of grey with a bit of brown or different colors sometimes but the grey dominate. When you approach city, you get also this sensation of approaching a gray shade world. But when you're closer, you observe that there is color indeed on each and every houses and buildings.I dont know if this is an impact of the new dynamic lighting but it seems to me that it doesnt render the exact impression of approaching a town with different type of materials and colors on the buildings..

Woud you care to make an estimate on how much Microsoft spent on development of Flight and the current DLC? I suspect they won't break even for a year or two based on various comments from MS. Greed? No. Gamble is more the correct term, and they need to recover development costs. If you don't want to buy the DLC, then don't.Hook

We are talking about Flight DLC, not FSX and not XPlane. One has nothing to do with the other. The situation would be the same if there never was an FSX nor an XP. One choice is one choice. Also, FSX add-ons are worth more because you generally get more with your purchase (planes) and it is far more likely that what you bought is pretty close to what you want to be entertained with.
