As far as i know, Singapore airlines used or still uses B772 for flights from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur which is also a very short hop...
Spot-on, as not too long ago in December, I did an early morning flight in a 747-400 and returned on a 772 late evening.

I really like doing long hauls while I'm home. About 4pm I will get everything ready, and take off by 5pm. By the time I get to top of cruise, my wife gets home and I spend the rest of the evening with her. I will do a quick looksie before bed and be up in the morning at 6 when she is getting ready for work. When she leaves I will go and by then it has paused at TOD. I will get all my charts and stuff together, unpause it and do the arrival. Rinse and repeat.I know that's not how everyone does it but it works for me. I fly 121 for a living and do not want to get 100 real with it because it is supposed to be fun...and I would get burned out. Cheers

My Dad has three more years on the 777 before he retires, shortest route he flies is Doha - Bahrain (around 80nm) And longest is Doha - Los Angeles (8300nm) He's started taking a lot of photo's of his trips now that he's near the end of his career, the last lot we're some pretty awseome shots over the Himalayas.Regards

I love flying long hauls. I have the time to check enroute charts, view my scenery from high above, relax, paint some aircraft models, do the dishes, laundry, eat and then it's time to land.Basically the things you do normally when you're at home, but keeping a constant peek at what's happening with the aircraft, specially when you only fly online like i do.There's nothing better than a 10 hour LH once in a while ;)

Me and my wife just had our first born a month ago, so now, its either short, short hops doing TNG in a 152 for the sake of practice (but mostly to get rid of that pesky abstinence), or long haul in the MD11.I do actually leave the computer after hitting CRZ. Id much rather do it that way then not do it at all.

At least some one understands that. I got in an argument with an ex friend over this exact thing.
That was some argument...More seriously, I havn't heard anybody mention Slew? For long (or very long) flights, I will prep and take off as normal but when I am settled into the cruise phase, I will calculate my expected fuel load at a waypoint about 15~20 minutes short of planned TOD. Pause, slew to that way point, and adjust fuel load and sim time to match expections and finish the flight as normal. They only things I am missing out on are step climbs and failures.

Paul Smith.

If I only did three long hauls a year, they would be: - Cross the Pond Westbound - Cross the Pond Eastbound - Worldflight (there are a few long hauls each year)Fantastic ATC coverage throughout these events and should PMDG implement a multicrew system... :(Cross the Pond at http://ctp.vatsim-uk.co.uk/Worldflight at http://www.worldflight.com.au/

I never have enough time to devote to a long haul flight (work, kids, life, etc.), but when I fly heavies, I look for real-world routes in Japan. There are a number of short (under two hours) hops between the major cities.

Ive done that loads of times. Its always a bit Nail%20Biting.gif once I wake up and before I check the computer. The last time I did it however, I was final for RWY28R SFO with KLM MD11, and it ctd on me.. at least I did not sit there for the endurance of the flight, then it would have sucked even more:-)And my wife really prefers it, cause then, being the fsx-junkie I am, I get my daily dosage without being interrupted during the day..

Last night at around 21:00 departed KFHU in MD-11F bound for NZCH. Woke up with about 500nm to T/D. I turned off ASE so it doesn't get any weather data over water. That way my plane wont encounter FS's idea of windshear. With the MD-11's auto step climb feature, this all works out well. Doing long hauls over night is actually somewhat close to reality in that pilots don't fly long hauls without relief crews.CheersTJ

I did it but it was nothing like regular, they did this as a promotional flights, rates were very cheap, so I did the round trip just to get a chance to fly it :) But from what I understood it was also to take advantage of this to train crews with a short trip like this as you can make much more shifts than on long haul flights. They never did it again since then. I believe it was using the A380 that was then assigned to the Paris / Tokyo route if I remember correctly.
Ahh,, yes.. Brings back memories from the time when Sas got their A340s, they did some empty training flights from EKCH to Stavanger, ENZV. They did some low flights near the city centre and this was just after 9/11, so some poor old lady called the police cause she thought it was terrorists trying to crash the aircraft into Rica Hotel Tjensvoll, which is one of the tallest buildings in our city, and about 1/10th to 1/15th the height of the WTC...
