PMDG MD11 upgrade needed?

Featured Replies

Hi PMDG teamI recently bought the 737 NGX and am amazed with the quality of both the VC and the exterior model.I have however fallen completely to the PMDG MD11, over 600 hours on it so far and still counting up. Tough the MD 11 VC is not bad at all, compared with the 737, there is still so much potencial for this bird.Would be nice if you guys don't forget the MD11ers out there, and sometime in the future consider releasing an updated version of this beautiful airplane.Happy landings and greetings from switzerland,Kevin Hürlimann

I wouldn't spend the money to completely upgrade the MD-11.The only gripe I have about it is the lettering could be done better. Bit blurry for my taste.

I'd pay for an MD-11 update, unfortunately I don't think it will happen.

What are some of the problems that need to be corrected? For my own personal edification. And yes I agree I hope that PMDG continues to support its FSX product line with updates. After all, FSX is all we serious simmers have, besides P3D of course. Thanks,Jeff

The only thing that I think PMDG should update would be the lettering for the switches and knobs and make them a tad clearer. They are a tad blurry to me. Though I don't have perfect eyesight.Other than that, no problems. Flying her from JFK to Zurich or other trans-atl and trans-pac flights is always fun.

I think regarding bugs there are already threads in this forum, specially the 62K Autothrust bug bothers me, have to set takeoff thrust manually when i need it! The VC should receive some NGX trearment, there are areas that have just too low resolution (e.g. top of glareshield). There are small details that would enhance the cockpit, window glasses, sharper and more fluid displays for the VC (yes i have this setting maxed out) or seeing a nose when leaning over the glareshield, ever seen the Martinair video? Sistemwise y want to congratulate PMDG, they did excellent work, so far only found very few things missing, love to be able to fly this big girl by real SOPs. I think it would be a shame to let this aircraft get old visually. en schoene, Kevin Huerlimann

Another nice addition would be the HUD system FedEx starts to use (or is using?) now.

Guess those who love the MD-11 would pay. No one else would. The PMDG MD-11 for me is the greatest plane ever produced for FSX (I dare to say this because I own and have flown each and every other high-end airliner for FSX and FS9). But to be honest, I don't have big hope that a "final patch" or an upgrade will ever see the light of day. The MD-11 is too underrated and neglected in the community, it's simply not attractive enough for people.

Final update for MD-11 please, is the best addon FSX!!!

Since it almost was a commercial failure I really doubt that they will make a NGX version of it. But at least a patch would be appreciated. I still have descent issues, the 62K bug, the bug that makes the plane crash if you enter the airport you departed from as new destination. The small annoying stuff. One also that extremely bothers me is the one where the 2D panels suddenly get blurry. There is a thread about it somewhere.

Ships are cooler that you think.

Commercial failure? I wouldn't say that myself. i recall the release date for the MD11 and it was quite a party, maybe not as exciting as the NGX release day but sill worthwhile being a part of.

How does one measure commercial success, IIRC the development of the MD11 was approx 3 yrs, during which time the PMDG team learnt more about the limitations of FSX and Simconnect than any other developer at the time. Much of what they learnt was then used in the Jetstream which if you have listened to any of the keynotes from Robert you would know was actually meant only to be a stop gap aircraft whilst the team was in downtime in the early phases of the 737 NGX, lessons learned on that aircraft moved upto the NGX.

So lookint at the long view I would say that the MD11 was quitethe commercial success, dont forget since the MD11 was released we have had iFly, and Capn Sim and Carenado really shake up the 3rd party development scene and I think without PMDG forging ahead we would not have such a well established 3rd party community.

Also and i know you might find this starnge but developers do talk to each other, they might not pass company code to each other but they certainly work together to solve certain issues the VC/mouse one in particular.

If you read carefully you see that I stated "almost commercial failure". Also I don't understand why you mix in the learning of FSX limitations and and Simconnect stuff. That they would have learned if the had made a lets say 757 as well. The whole points is that the MD11 didn't sell very well and that is the reason that they most likely (and I hope I am wrong) won't make a new one.

Also, where did you find the information about the stop gap? I never heard that. The stop gap thing only began with the DC-6 after they noticed how long time the NGX took.

The problem as far as I see it is the MD11 was one of the most pirated FS aircraft out there.. Theiving b******!

Rob Prest

Rob: I am pretty sure the 737 and 747 is pirated more (in absolute numbers). I can see though that the MD11 would be pirated more in relative numbers...

I'll buy it if they re-do it for sure! I have the 744, NGX and the MD11, and the MD is my all time favorite!
