March 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member I don't get why people are going out there way to get an "NGX" computer, look at my specs, yer exactly there s*** but guess what? I dont drop below 15 frames with the NGX with addon scenery and active sky and more!Just gets so tiring and a waste of moneyI'm running the NGX with no probs (40+ FPS) on an AMD system that cost half what an Intel rig would, and on top of that I didn't need to overclock it either!Best regards,Robin.
March 29, 201214 yr Author Thanks everyone for your responses.I will not be ready to buy for a couple months. I need t pay for school and all then begin putting a few shackles away. This new processor may be what i will be getting into. My plan is to go to a local computer store here and just say "this is what i want, build it" that way i will be able to tweak with the performance I want. I really am not upgrading for the NGX but for all the new addons on the horizon that may make my experience much more immersive. My computewr is outdated and i just want to have something that makes me go "wow i cant believe this isnt real" right now with the lower settings and graphics it is a very poor experience flying the NGX in high density locations. I just want to relax and not worry about the system crashing after a 10 hour flight. That is all.Once Again Thanks So Much Fellas Brad Cherrington [email protected] CYYC Based
March 30, 201214 yr True. Although I'm the kind of person who would save the extra 50€ and get a better graphics card. :)IMHO over a certain price range, pricing up mainboards provide you with more reliability and perphaps some more OC range, so unless you also have a really high end CPU (which a 2500k or the 3750k are not) I guess it will not make a huge difference. On top of that, I've never been really a fan of hybrid platforms. :)Still, I think it's better to wait even only for the price drop following the launch. Also check what the new i7 is promising thanks to the die shrink and lower power consumption: 7ghz. :(Just curious, why do you say the 2500k is not a high end CPU? March 30, 201214 yr Just curious, why do you say the 2500k is not a high end CPU?Pricetag. It's a mainstream CPU. Mateusz Kapusta
March 30, 201214 yr I'd look at performance instead of pricetag, the 2600k and 2500k are "up there" in terms of performance with the big guys (990X, 3960X and 980X) for a fraction of the cost.It may be mainstream (read: affordable), but it's certainly not a low-end, or even mid-end, CPU. March 30, 201214 yr Westjetter,I used Jetline systems site to spec out my current rig. Then bought parts online and built myself. It's an i7 based rig and it works very well w/ the NGX.http://www.jetlinesystems.com/performance.php Jeff Hendershot"Roger, Roger...What's Our Vector, Victor?"
March 30, 201214 yr I've always associated the term "high end" with performance. It'll outdo anything but another sandybridge & as far as fsx is concerned it doesn't really matter which sandybridge you're using. March 30, 201214 yr Overclocking is VERY important for FSX, because FSX uses the processor mainly.Lock at my specs, I get around 25-30 FPS. (In cruising much higher.)CheersI disagree.I'm running the NGX with no probs (40+ FPS) on an AMD system that cost half what an Intel rig would, and on top of that I didn't need to overclock it either!Best regards,Robin. And this is why I disagree... If Robin is getting those FPS without overclock plus my rubbish system then there ya go.It can be done without overclocking, I have never overclocked and never will. 15fps I mentioned is the lowest I ever see in FSX. Cruise much higher and usually taxing around, climb etc staying around 25+
March 30, 201214 yr You forget that the people with 4+GHz CPUs are running higher graphics settings and probably more addons as well. I could get (and have got) 300+ fps with the trike & basic settings. I've seen it break 400 a couple of times. March 30, 201214 yr Buying a Sandy Bridge today, means buying a dead, non upgradable mainboard.I just bought an Z68 Asrock Extreme4 Gen3 that can support PCIe3 plus the Ivy Bridge CPU's so it is not a dead board by any means...

March 30, 201214 yr I'll be waiting to see how the IB goes (watching these forums) and decide later this year - may go for a SB depending on costperformance. Meantime I just bought a Corsair H80 and Antec Twelve Hundred so I'll be building that this weekend and up my OC. I will go for a Nvidia card next time but which one will depend on the pricing in Q3Q4. Just having a look now at some prices: i7-2700k A$335, i7-2600k A$315, i7-3960x A$1225 (forget that!), i7-3930k A$688. I'd be waiting to see if these prices come down after the IB release.
