March 31, 201214 yr I think the FSX ---> P3D migration is beginning. In time, my guess, when P3D reaches the tipping point of becoming more popular than FSX, the porting party will begin with most things from FSX. FSX in all it's glory will end up as P3D. P3D is like the Borg and will assimilate all things FSX. Orbx will continue to improve it's visuals and technology, P3D will keep improving also. FSX will eventually become a fond memory and a museum piece. FSX has had it's day and a great run. Once DX 11 and all the coding stuff is done to make P3D operate like a happy camper the Borg will become unstoppable. FSX will be kissed good bye. Resistance is futile. It is then I remove my sunglasses and expose who I really am.
March 31, 201214 yr I'm sorry mate, it seems the humour didn't make the Atlantic crossing. I was referring to the FSX gods that'll mess things up as soon as you get smug.Ah, now THAT is a Brit apologizing to a Canadian for not having translatable humor. I love it!!! So us yanks can be forgiven for even loosing more in the translation, right? If a Canadian can't "get it", surely we get off the hook, right??? :LMAO:As for the too subtle "fsx gods" reference... Indeed. Tread lightly...
March 31, 201214 yr 1. Certainty that ORBX scenery will work in the upcoming Prepar3D 2.0I think this is the crucial point Stephen - although I would extend it to wanting to ensure all my key addons will work - and I've decided to try the monthly subscription to see how it goes. I've just ended a winter sportscast subscription, so that pretty much makes this a neutral cost.I read that developer subscriptions will always be up to date, so that appeals.Although circa $50 for an academic license is a very reasonable price, it could still be an option one might regret in the long run, depending on how they price 2.0 and, of course, how long before it's released."Clouded the future is" as Yoda said, and I think there is still a lack of clarity as to the precise long term direction and wide availability of P3D and how much freedom exists for them to take on punters as "developers" and "students", as is clearly happening right now. All very confusing, mixed messages, whether you take the Orbx "removes the main barrier" view, or the Flight 1 "Lockheed playing legal word games" stance. At what point will Microsoft take the view that LM is attracting business away from Flight? OK we know that's just a game, not a sim, and there really isn't an "either/or decision" to be made, but there does seem to be a very grey area emerging here, and I want to minimise my investment until the dust has completely settled. At the end of the day, Microsoft abandoned FSX without ironing out all the bugs and shortcomings, so they really can't be at all surprised that long suffering simmers are now looking to Prepar3d as the hobby's salvation. I'd like to think they take the view that simmers are no longer their target market and will be leaving LM to run with it as at present. But are they that smart? Will probably put my toes in the water, play around with it and see where this whole thing goes.Exciting, if confusing, times.
March 31, 201214 yr Ah, now THAT is a Brit apologizing to a Canadian....Actually, that is a Brit being sorry that a Canadian has a humour problem. :( The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

April 1, 201214 yr Dan, that is the ugliest chick I have seen since I was fifteen and tricked into a blind date with my Aunt Mabel's next door neighbour's daughter Hilda (also known as HH, short for Hairy Hilda)!I am having a terrible mental picture of Hilda Stephen. In fact, I nearly passed out. Reminds me of a young lass I knew many years ago, they called her "Grotty Grazelda". April 2, 201214 yr Content removed for breaking rules on speculating on Prepar3D EULA.No more. Don't bother with the Simforums thread now....its been locked with no right of reply.Had it been allowed to continue, I would have asked why Pete Dowson (FSUIPC) FSDT, ORBX, Aerosoft, and other developers clearly have no issue legally, morally or otherwise yet Flight 1, but more particularly, GEX (which is but a texture replacement set) regard P3D as the devil in disguise? My only conclusions are:1) The dislike between certain individuals at Orbx and F1 (as Orbx are clearly pushing P3D hard)2) The fact that certain parties may be dismayed that any commercial revenue from P3D is now going to be harder to come by seeing as the devs mentioned above are providing P3D installers at no extra charge.NickN is quick to attack and offer pearls of 'wisdom' on this subject, conveniently disguised as some moral crusade, (see his highlighted text for an example) yet here we are, looking at a refined and constantly updated and improved FSX, something we have all wished for since 2006.Instead of embracing this opportunity, it appears we are more likely to push the self destruct amongst the cries of some addon developers who are probably more concerned about the prospect of losing some commercial level sales than they are anything else.If P3D lives up to the promises and the potential, FSX will be consigned to the bin as far as I am concerned. There will be plenty of addons that will be compatible........no matter which developer they come from. You stand still and argue about it, you get left behind.
