March 31, 201214 yr As per this announcement, SBSLs will be free for P3D :) The Orbx team is pleased to announce that effective immediately, all SBSLs currently on sale will be now given away for free. Please hold off purchasing any SBSLs from the Flightsimstore until Adrian sets the prices to zero. For all customers who have already purchased SBSLs, Orbx will arrange with FSS to provide a store credit for your purchases which can be used against any items in the FSS store. We firmly believe that the future of flight simulation is Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D. It is the most mature and robust code, and has a world-class development team actively maintaining the code and planning many exciting new features coming including DX11 support, a new rendering engine and many of the visual enhancements you would expect to run on today's hardware. We are indeed very excited to be working closely with LM as they move to the version 2.0 release.Of course last week's announcement of the $49 Academic versions removes the main barrier for anyone wanting to migrate to the best platform. So in support of this exciting new pricing, Orbx will immediately roll all our SBSL development efforts into a new single application called the "Orbx P3D Migrator Tool". This tool will be given away for free, and will enter beta testing in the coming week or so.This tool will automatically detect your complete Orbx library you have installed in FSX. You have the choice to activate (a la SBSL) or migrate (remove from the FSX side) all your Orbx products. This tool will work for all Orbx products from 2008-2011 and you can run it as many times as you like. For all 2012 products onwards (i.e. 2W3 Swanson and beyond), we will release dedicated seperate FSX and P3D installers. We will also release dedicated P3D DVD editions, so for every new release there will be four editions:FSX Download Edition FSX DVD Edition P3D Download Edition P3D DVD Edition We want everyone of our customers to move to P3D and we're removing all the barriers to doing so. I guess P3D is their next platform :) Happy Flying, Clem Wu Beta Tester for OZx, Iris Simulations and Shade.
March 31, 201214 yr I am stunned by this announcement. It must be one of the smartest moves ORBX has made in some time and just may go some way in repairing some of the termendous damage they have done to themselves in the last few months or so . I will seriously consider migrating to P3D if there is an acknowledgement that the products will work in the upcoming version 2.0.Kind regards,

I'm extremely excited as I will definitely be upgrading! What the ###### did you just ######ing say about me, you little ######? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the ###### out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my ######ing words. You think you can get away with saying that ###### to me over the Internet? Think again, ######. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re ######ing dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable &@($* off the face of the continent, you little ######. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your ######ing tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will ###### fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re ######ing dead, kiddo.
March 31, 201214 yr Commercial Member I'm so tempted. Very smart move from Orbx! FSX video producer- http://www.youtube.com/user/B767rules
March 31, 201214 yr I saw this announcement. However, I am far from stunned. I think that reference is a bit over the top (but given previous business behaviour I can see why one would think this way). It is what they should have been doing in the first place, especially since they have been doing a hard sell on P3D for some time. I own Prepar3D. I did not and would not purchase the SBSL from Orbx, it made no sense to charge for these, it is no big deal to link the FSX products to P3D. Several other company's have stepped forward already offering free linkages or working models that work with both, AT NO COST. FS DreamTeam being one of those which I also own products for scenery.I would go so far to say that this is the sort of business behaviour I would expect and it is appreciated, this sort of practice will keep me as a customer. Thank you Orbx for moving in this direction. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
March 31, 201214 yr Fitsimguy, How do you like P3D, is it worth the switch? It would of cost me a few $ to switch to P3D paying for the licenses. Glad they are free, looks good on Orbx.
March 31, 201214 yr It was beginning to look like Orbx was the only developer charging for a compatibility patch anyway so I don't think they had any choice really as they were starting to look a bit greedy. And maybe the sales of SBSL's were a lot lower than they thought they would be. I thought the same when P3D announced the 'Academic' price slash recently - despite all the hype maybe the uptake hasn't been as great as they were hoping. They have already shot themselves in the foot a little bit by making it clear version 2 would be a huge improvement so why would anybody buy it before then. So I would put this down to self interest rather than generosity. 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base

March 31, 201214 yr Well, i was going to wait for v2 but found myself jumpimg at the $50. For me its a no brainer migrating to P3D but I couldnt get my head around a monthly bill . I hope they do not charge for v2 but if they do I will pay .Its like this - how real can we get . P3D will be constantly upgraded , you have devs such as A2A surging ahead with new sensations . Aircraft are getting quite good . We have to wait to see what REX does with its next update. How far can we go. For me, there will be a time when I dont have to upgrade and it seems to be on the horizon now ...that is until holographic simming comes in !!Cheers... Alan

March 31, 201214 yr I know I could find this out by trawling thorugh the other fora but for anyone already running both, are you sucessfully using FSX addon aircraft in P3D without too much faffing around or do you have to jump through hoops to get things to work? 9950X3D - X870E Aorus Master- TUF 5090 OC - 64GB DDR5 - 1500W HXi - Titan 360 RX LCD - 9100 Pro x 2 - LG 45GX950A - HOTAS Warthog with Ava Base
