Are you really that interested? If so then you really need to have a night out. I'll pay... Seriously, it's on me..

It's close but not exactly the same. It can't be, because of how the eyepoint moves (or rather how it doesn't move).

Of course not and you never will, just get used to what you have now or get yurself a real cockpit and have everything set up like the real deal

All the ones that I use. PMDG, Carenado, Aerosoft...

Paul Smith.

The virtual cockpit is just like real life. You sit with your head straight forward and the entire plane rotates around you to align itself with what you want to see. That's why you see planes spinning around in all different directions in the sky.

I know, it's something people need to get used to. If it was just like real life there would be no need.

I call BS.

It's not BS and since you don't seem to have the practical experience to know what real should look like it's rather rude to dismiss mine in that way. If you can't see that the eyepoint movement in FSX is unrealistic that's your problem. Unless of course your eyes are mounted at the centre of rotation of your head in which case the VC view in FSX is 100% realistic.

So now you think the VC is not 100% realistic because you think that moving the viewpoint should offset Mastoid Process instead of the cornea? That smells a lot like BS to me.

This is because you had to turn your head to one side (or the other) to see further back.

The perceived appearance of a panel above your head in real life is different to a picture taken of it that you look at without moving your head.

You might also want to brush up on your comprehension skills. Talking of being rude, this is the second time you have questioned my real world experience without cause or justification.

Paul Smith.

What came first the chicken or the egg? Seems this argument will never end :)

Damn. If it's gone on for 7 pages it will never stop.

By the way, neither came first.

This made me laugh, I like this analogy.

That offset distance is important, just as it is important to position the eyepoint at the correct distance from the aircraft centre of rotation. The effect I'm talking about is much smaller but it is still present and it is significant. The amount your eyes move laterally and vertically as your head turns is important. Calling geometric fact BS simply because you haven't considered it makes no sense.

You might also want to brush up on your comprehension skills. Talking of being rude, this is the second time you have questioned my real world experience without cause or justification.

You haven't said what your real world experience is. When I asked about it you were very vague, so I assumed you were bluffing. There are plenty of "pretend pilots" on aviation forums, if you are a pilot or work around airliners then I'm sorry, but in that case your comments about what the 737 IRS panel looks like from the pilot's seat do not match what I know to be the case.

By the way, it's very easy to misunderstand what someone means in a forum like this. That's why tempers so easily get frayed.

As soon as I learned that it came with a 2D paneI I bought the NGX. For me it is indispensable.

Two reasons :

1. performance - VCs still lag behind by as much as 30%. Taking off at EDDF at 11FPS versus 15FPS makes a big difference.

2. vertigo (turning my head in the VC using TrackIr does not sit well with me)

I do realize I am in the minority and those of us that still preffer 2D panel are not numerous enough to justify the extra development expense. But I was able to create a decent 2D panel for the CS707 in two days with no prior experience of FSX panel creation.

Let me put it another way. If the 777 comes with a 2D panel like the NGX I will buy it on day one without waiting for any feedback from anyone. If it only comes with popup gauges I will think about the purchase.
