I have the same issue as you Howard. UK2000 airports, the flashing is horrendous, with REX OD it was not. @ Orbx NZSI hardly a flash. I am using Word Not Allowed's tweak.

 

Interesting you say that Julian, as I have to admit that I too find it worse at UK2000 airports...

 

BTW fellas, I must mention that while all the talk has been about the Rex weather engine, the problems I've been experiencing are while using the FSrealWX lite and no, I don't think it is the problem as I have been using this software since it's release, as I find it superb! To date I've been unable to get RexEss engine to match anything close to real weather.

I hope you sort it Howard I will try the TextureMaxLoad=30 and see, mean time I might try FSrealWX lite, never tried it but if you say its good then it will be.

I'd start with TextureMaxLoad=9 first. That cured all of my black squares. 30 is really high. 12 is the highest I see most go as it can cause stutters the higher you go.

I'm not a big addons fan because FSX is beautiful enough straight out of the box

Hi Dave, hope things are well with you. Sure, try it. I find it superb. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts. I must add, that my last flight was in the NGX from LEAL to LFMN and there was a considerable change of weather enroute. The real weather with these two prgs combined was quite simply some of the finest I have experienced. Incredibly realistic haze layers and visibility.

Small overclock on the Graphics Card has in the past eliminated the "black square syndrome" on my machine. But then my card is feeling its age now and recent addons are getting more sophisticated.

I can't test this until Friday as I'm away from my rig, but interested to see if any of you guys could validate this in any way...

Howard, it is to do with the tweak. As I mentioned above, UK2 airports produce the worst flashing, whilst Aerosoft German Airports a clear as a bell. Most orbx airports just a wee flash, some not at all. Some fly tampa airports and FSDT. But not all.

 

Seems to be a side effect with some set ups. I have a GTX580, and experience this. Even Word Not Allowed has this issue too.

I find I have to use TextureMaxLoad=60 to get rid of black squares when flying the NGX near demanding Orbx and other scenery (YMML, YBBN, YSCB etc). Adverse effects seem to be minimal.

It's just that the screenname 'Scatterbrain Kid' is one I chose years ago when registering at a bunch of flight sim forums, I got the idea when i saw it painted on a P-38 (below), and now it's sort of stuck, thousands of posts and screenshots later. I'm new to Avsim, but not to the general simming community..:)
