Sad sad news about our Carbon Cub

Featured Replies

Well, sad news indeed :-(

Strangely I had mentioned in one of my previous posts, some two weeks ago, that the Cub might be cockpitless....

I'll skip Alaska, until a VC airplane is released.

I am a little bit mad at myself now that I understand that some who have been complianing here and there about the future of MS FLIGHT may, after all, be right!

A very sad day for jcomm simmer :-(

Well some good things DID actually happen - most people didnt have high hopes for TIR, as it catered only for HC simmers, yet it happened. And I too had a feeling that perhaps basic version of plane will be free and DX for extra money, so let us wait...

Hawaii!

Yes, of course we should wait, but, IMHO, not a nice way to start....

1. They didn't have to add TrackIR but yet they did, purely on request of the community. And rather quickly too.

2. Alaska and so I presume also the Cub have been in development for ages: MS was working on it in 2011 already. It's he same as with those warbirds: it was all planned ages ago this way.

3. As has been said already: why support TrackIR if you don't plan on adding planes with VC...? TrackIR only works in one outside view...

These three things keep me hopeful. Then again, reading this news this morning didn't make me too happy...

Another thing: there are some posts in this topic that I should delete, really, but given the understandable frustration and disappointment and because all that make some posts somehow on topic I will leave things as they are (yes, despite the bad news I am still in a rather good mood  ) but from this moment on it's back to business as usual. No more oneliners simply bashing Flight (and its creator and/or users).

EDIT

I scrapped that sentence about being in a good mood, because I am more awake now... and getting more disappointed...

Yes, I acknowledge their efforts with track-ir and the brake axis, althought I will not profit from it since I do not have track-ir, nor rudder pedals, but the update was smooth (at least for me) and although I didn't yet try it, at least it solved the online stuttering issues for many :-)

Also, it has been said that there will be basic and "deluxe" aircraft in the future, and the way things have been written might even suggest that component DLCs might be released (cockpits... who knows....)

The weather themes loog great, but at least in Hawaii none of the new themes divert from the "ISA World". I would like to see consistent temperatures in Alsaka, and if possible, their effects too...

TrackIR is supported by loads of games anyway, it wasn't that big effort from Flight team to add it. Probably they would have added it anyway even without request from community, in this kind of games trackIR support is a standard, not something unusual that should need to be separately requested by community.

Wrong. Wel,, okay, it maybe should have been standard  but it wasn't in Flight. TrackIR clearly was NOT on any list of the MS Flight team. TrackIR is added on request of the community. A quote from the AVSIM interview with Joshua Howard:

TA: There are a number of things that have been suggested for “fixes” or additions. One of the more visible (no pun intended) has been that of compatibility with Track IR. Is that on your schedule to add? For those who seem to be suffering from withdrawal without it, when do think it will be done, if indeed you are going to address this?

JH: As I mentioned before, TrackIR is one of the requests we are getting from simmers. In an effort to balance our investments, we are considering how we can accommodate this request along with all of the other ways we want to grow the experience. I can say that we understand that the experience of Flight with TrackIR would be very cool, even for the non-pilot, and even if the total number of TrackIR users is pretty low. I expect we will have more to say about this in the future, but today I can’t commit to anything specific.

That was in the middle of March. Three months later we have TrackIR support. This makes me really hopeful for the future. And let's not forget we still don't know if the description about the 'basic Cub' is interpreted in the right way by us all!

I don't get all the Cockpit rage, I mean MS are only trying to get us to think "outside the box" ;)

Thinking outside the box is fine. Thinking outside the plane is just dumb.

BTW Nobody's reacting to the news that we get '565 airports and 137 seaplane bases'. That's quite nice. Sure beats the 30+ we got with Hawaii. And 137 seaplane bases: I honestly can't imagine they created all those only for the Icon... There HAS to be another planes with floats in the pipeline... But well, if that one also has no VC... We'll see. Anyway, I am fine with that amount of airports and that amount of seaplane bases is quite something, I think!

EDIT

Here is a crosspost of what I posted on the Steamforum:

Although I am sure I will have fun with the Maule and RV-6a in Alaska (I won't be TOUCHING the Cub if it has no VC and I actually hate it if I am forced to 'own' it when I buy Alaska: maybe I can delete it somehow?) it's a shame that all the positive vibe of the last few days after the release of the update (TrackIR, toe brakes) will be completely trashed by this news... Everywhere simmers were saying they would get back into Flight now, but now even MORE people seem to be angry about it and this new VC-less plane seems to do more damage than the update could repair... In other words: the good update made this new VC-less plane look even worse.

MS should have brought out this news about the Cub BEFORE they released the update. Then that update might have repaired the damage done with the VC-less Cub, but now I am not sure what will happen.

Imho the MS Flight does a lof of good things, but marketing and communication department needs some work. A LOT of work...

Sheesh... I just orderd a TrackIR set bofore I read this topic...

All things considered... I think it's been quite restrained. :Whew:

Mike Dryden

It's great to have a long-term plan and all, but you do have to observe your plan in action and make sure it's not going totally in the wrong direction. Possibly dangerously in the wrong direction.

You can only insult and infuriate your customers so long before they just become somebody else's customers.

It is sometimes better to abandon aspects of a plan in process even if it means abandoning work that has been done, or setting it aside for later rework, if it is demonstrated again and again that part of your plan is inciting your customers to riot against you.

I would actually have preferred no bundled plane at all than this abomination.

I would actually have preferred no bundled plane at all than this abomination.

Me too. As I said I really hate it that I am forced to download something I do not want at ALL. But well, Alaska itself is too good to pass on... I also agree that they should have changed plans. They MUST have known this news would destroy all the goodwill that the last update brought... I can't imagine they didn't see that coming. I thought we had seen the worst marketing and communication possible already, but this one is topping it.

I am still hoping 'basic' refers to the plane itself and not the lack of VC... I asked a simple question about it on the Steamforum: maybe someone from MS will reply... (double wishful thinking...?).

There is still a BIG question mark about Alaska (and the shell of a plane)', pricing. Some people in some sessions I visited were talking about Alaska being free or so, and the planes that would be complete woud be payware like the Maule.

Another solution : maybe there will be kind of same offer for Alaska as there is for Hawaï...

Let's put aside the awful "Basic" Vs "Deluxe"way of speaking from MSF "Communication" Team. It is obvious they are planning their communication on a USSR Gosplan basis :D

I am quite surprised that some of the "pilots" posting on this this thread can be reduced to fits of hysteria over a minor issue like this. Wonder how they would react in a real cockpit when confronted with some type of problem.....?????
