Beta 10.10 is out!

Featured Replies

French troll on top of that. I love the french language and all, but have something USEFULL to say.

And for all those who are complaining about the BETA not working right: FREAKING DUH!!! They remade a lot of underlying stuff like the joystick system is completely new. It will have issues that they didn't test for in their limited hardware setup that we all in the vast world we live in have many different choices. Instead of saying that XP and LR are CRAP for not getting it right the first time out, DON'T get the BETA, wait for a stable release only. You will hear of the improvements being made, but will have to wait for Austin to say that enough people are having no issues with the current feature set before you will get them and THAT version should work flawlessly for your setup as it has been thoroughly tested by the many other users that ARE WILLING to have things screw up randomly as they add and change features and find out where the code is screwy.

Thank you for sharing.

Normally, I would say your right - but, when you have people that give a company $140.00, like I did to get this software taxes, shipping etc, you would think that it would perform somewhat like x plane 9 did when they release it the first time. Software should not be buggy, if it is, then you need to fix it before you sell it.

Paying customers shouldn't be trouble shooting issues for a company.

I am a techy by trade and I get paid very, well to do that all day long. That's like telling my customer's to tell me what they think the problem is and email me their results, meanwhile paying full price for a service. You think they will want to do that for you? no...

My two cents

I really wish people would stop thinking that any person who has their own opinion on something is not a troll for speaking their mind. If you pay money for a service that you are unhappy with, do you not call the company and complain? I work for a corporate company that gets calls like this everyday and the last thing I do is tell that person that they are a TROLL - they are a paying customer. Have some respect people!

Didn't you test the free demo or read customer reviews before spending you money ?

 $140.00 ? Where did you get if for this expensive price ?

I do agree with you 100%. Take the little guy for example. The one that makes one plane for the first time. He's not PMDG or Flight1 or Carenado for the short list. It is someone like Baytower who's RV was almost perfect upon release. If this little guy was to put something out that was buggy, he would last about 2 days. But, if your x-plane you can get away with it. Why is this? Now x-plane and Baytower cannot really be compared I believe because of the complexity of the products, but one could argue that it should not matter. It is the audience that determines the fate of any company. You either buy it or you don't. Take for example the new ProATCX. This program was incredibly buggy and many within a week asked for their money back, and they got it. Why did they get it back you might ask? Very good question I think. Those unhappy with x-plane, do me a favor and ask for your money back. I don't know what Laminar would say really. My guess is sorry, all sales are final. So why does one company allow it and another not? Now, ProATCX is coming right along and improving daily. Everyone is smiling. For those unhappy, just ask. They cannot say yes and no at the same time. Flight1 has a 30 day money back guarantee. How can they do that? Are they nuts? I wish I could explain this but I cant. I have the demo of x-plane and still have not purchased it. I keep checking back and trying the interim releases, but I am still not ready. It certainly looks promising but it is not quite there yet IMO. I want x-plane to be successful and I too am guilty of slamming the product from time to time. I dont really know why because I have not spent any money.

I guess you missed the plethora of Service Packs that were made based on customer feedback by just about every 3rd party developer for the entire MSFS franchise for scenery, utilities and aircraft.

My issue (and motivation behind my previous comment) wasn't that people aren't allowed to have an opinion about a game. By all means, if FSX hits all the right notes for you (rhetorical you) that X-Plane doesn't, it'd be foolish to deny subjective reality. Heck, I go back to FSX from time to time, too. No, my issue is the overblown, hyperbolic way some folks express their displeasure. It comes across as petulant. ("Truly unacceptable.", anyone?).

Air the issues. Let LR know about the problems you're having. Declare that you'll be going back to N-product, if you must. Display a "NO FAIR! I'm grabbing my marbles and going HOME!" attitude, however, and you should know that at least one person is sitting here laughing and pointing at your post for it's childishness.

+1 Jon. If it's too frustrating, just do something else, go back to 10.05, try another sim, kick a ball, anything. The proven history is that they'll fix everything, just be patient.

I've just used my time productively (I hope), check out what I just built with Benny's OSM! Hours of freaking tweaks to his night textures later, I present to you....

I'll report at the blog site later, i'm too busy drooling flying. Ben's right, X-plane is a cool scenery repository.

NICE work, there, Simmo! Speaking of scenery, do you know if any additional, WED-created stuff has been included in the update, aside from the oil rig?

Thanks Jon. Chris K over at xpilot is keeping tabs of some of the new objects added by Tom and crew. Just search for them in the default scenery directories.

Thanks, Simmo. I'm holding off on the d/l for now to see if any post-patch hotfixes will be released in the next few days. Work activities are keeping me from flying at this point, so I figured I'd hold off. I was referring more to user-made scenery areas that may have been submitted to LR for distribution in patches. I've sort of been out of the X-Plane loop for a few weeks and have only been checking since the announcement of 10.10 last week or so, so I'm not aware if that's been started at this point.

Well, I'm absolutely cool about the update, beta bugs etc., and I don't care about waiting some weeks until they get 10.10 right. But I have to admit that I'm a little - well - disappointed by X-Plane 10 too. I'll stick with it anyway and will not go back to FSX for various reasons.

My impression is, that Laminar isn't able to handle the complexity of their own product and that they are behind from what XP10 could be and maybe is/was intended to be. XP10 was planned to be released late 2010 and then finally released in late 2011. Now, more than 7 month after the release, they are reworking the hdr rendering engine, most airports are still empty, cities all over the world still look like american suburbs, a lot of textures are outdated, performance has still to be optimized, ATC is working poorly and no VFR ATC at all....

The result is, that people expect all these things to be "fixed", whilst there is a lot of new programming, artwork, testing etc. to do. It's not about fixing.

X-Plane10 is really work in progress and it takes some time and attitude to get used to that.

Like I said, I'm cool about it and I enjoy XP10.05., but it's not surprising that a lot of people are frustrated because it's not the commen approach...

After all, everybody should relax a little and go for a walk. Its just a computer game and in the worst case some money down the drain - you know?

Firstly, i'm a bit miffed that LR have release this update whist I'm on vacation. I can't get to my rig for a month. :-)

For those that are freaking out that this update is bugged, please relax.

For starters, as many have said, it's a beta, and you can roll back to the latest release candidate quite easily. Tbh, I'd have been surprised if this update had worked perfectly anyway. A huge amount of work has gone into this update. There's a new complier that has sped up loading times, a rework of the HDR rendering engine and of course some of the groundwork for the move to a 64bit program has been added in preparation for the next update. That's a lot of changes to the base code.

I know that it's frustarating when, after all that work things still go wrong. But remember that LR is only a small company and as such they can't check every hardware setup imaginable. This is made even more difficult given x-plane's multi platform nature. Things do go wrong. For example, I remember pmdg finding an issue with the ngx relating to Saitek pedals after release, despite neither in house of external beta testers had this problem.

I guess what I'm trying to say is cut LR some slack. Flight simmers have to be the most impatient people in the world. We want it all now, and if we don't get it then we throw a tantrum. X-plane 10 is arguably LR most important release ever. Thanks to support from aerosoft, and the release of Microsoft flight, x-plane has never had such a high profile in the simmer world(today I can buy one of several add-ons, boxed from a local PC store). It will bring teething problems, tantrums and disagreements but in the end, this could be the best selling version of x-plane ever. And remember, no software these days is released without bugs or the need for patches.

Best wishes,

Jess B

A bit more testing, mainly on the little persistent things. Some bugs I've confirmed so far:

1. Com Radio still works even when switched off.

2. Turbulence still present in inappropriate places. I've now figured this out to be in METAR reports for variable wind direction.

3. Transponder still gives "TCAS Alert" when switched off.

4. Avionics cooling fan switches on with avionics master switch, even if main power (battery etc...) is off.

I've submitted bug reports on each of these matters. I'm particularly keen to see aircraft systems hang together "nice and tidy".

No crash or joystick problem on my system for now, but less FPS than with 10.05. I like the new Columbia 400.

See the last picture... X-Plane cars still love tailgating.

All working well, loading is 1/2 the time it was before. No crashes to desktop. It did freeze when I plugged in my controllers and windows was activating the devices, but after 15sec it came right back to working again. Hot swapping controllers works great now. The UI for joysticks is nearly the same as it was, so nothing to have to re-learn. I like the "pick your poison" screen before it loads anything. Doesn't seem to do the weather well though, as I was set up for real-world weather. It put the selected weather in for just a brief second or two, then downloaded the real-world weather and cancelled it out.

Getting 15fps at lowest with nearly max settings near NYC Ground Zero, 30-60fps in most areas

Shadows set to lowest (more shadows too big a hit for me - lots of objects each with own shadow = BIG LOSS 5-10fps)

HDR AA set to fastest (off) (Couldn't use HDR before - too big a perf hit)

Clouds at 100% (with a cloudy day over NYC) (only had 25% at best before)

If I dial back cars a bit to Chicago settings, it gets better, but is variable depending on how many roads are in front of me.

I was around 5-10FPS same area with 30-40 being max FPS everywhere else. And the damn annoying residential as far as the eye can see is going away. Still not as much commercial or high-rise buildings as I'd like to see, but it's getting better with a few more art assets. Once I find a good neutral for what my card and CPU can handle together, I'll be back to flying regularly. I also wasn't able to do HDR very well as it slowed me down a bit more than I'd like, but it doesn't have as much of a hit for me now as it did in 5b4.

I'm still not pleased as punch with XP10 by any means. It still has a long way to go before I'm happy and content with spending money on it, but I'm hoping that LR will flesh out the sim to my expectations, rounding out the features to an acceptable level for the rest of us and not half-assing certain features just cuz Austin thinks they're unecessary. If it is in real aviation, it should be in a sim. Hell, I'd kinda like to see things as detailed as an unpressurized cabin at 14000' start to go black slowly as your pilot falls asleep from hypoxia unless you use alternate oxygen. Now given what's missing in XP10, that would be pretty low on my to-do list, but it still would be on there.
