Beta 10.10 is out!

HDR in X-plane includes more realistic shading and how the light from the "sun" interacts with the atmosphere and ground causing shadows and other effects. It also affects the cloud coloring as well as light sources. In a way, if you're familiar with FSX, its similar to bloom, but with EVERY light source and path taken in the sim. Without HDR, it's very simplistic calculations of light instead of the more accurate ray-tracing and reflections.

Thanks much. Sounds like a heavy load not only for the calculations necessary but the display also. I get nothing but shimmering. Maybe it will improve as we move forward. Some have said it is working a little better but still needs work. Maybe a new 16 quad processor :o

Note: Playing around with it a bit, the real craziness begins when I am silly enough to enable 4x SSAA quad render. Wildness ensues, after that.

Ohhhhhhh........

I updated and horrible things happened. No crash, but much artifacting of terrain, planes and textures. New start-up screen seems promising... The program overall felt faster in the time before the artifacting became too distracting and I quit. My plane was hanging in the air, rotating about its axis, with unknown textures flickering everywhere. First Time ever I had to quit Xplane.

Looks like a fix is in order. I am patient.

Edit!! Ok, it seems my previous attempt broke something and it wont work correctly at all now. Doh!!! I am suspecting from the way its happening that its doing something horrible with my memory.

Beta 2 is coming soon:

Fixed crash on startup on Windows caused by some Joysticks

Joysticks no longer have a negative impact on frame rate

It looks like the X-Plane built-in crash reporting system helps a lot:

Happy flying.

I updated after being away for a month and a half. New interface doesn't really answer any of the problems I have stated with the interface but perhaps good for the iPhone/ iPad transitions.

No problems with the beta here...

No Larry

If you'll re-read my post, I did say FSX + Acceleration.

I went to my local Electronics Boutique store to get it.

FSX - $99.95 (1st week of release)

Acceleration - $49.95 (1st week of release)

What do you say we get back on topic?

Goran-you got ripped off-shop around next time!

Usually happens with Electronics Boutique. They still sell FS9 for $50

eB has been history in the us for at least ten years... At least in my experience.I am 54 but I think That was pretty obvious 10 years ago - maybe takes longer to hit the southern hem?

Need either a new country or Internet savvy. IMHO ..

Goran was probably also quoting Aussie dollars at the time which was not as strong as it is now, so its apple and oranges comparing one currency in another country for game A vs USD for other game B.

after travelling in foreign countries for the last month a moot point.......

Been in 1O countries last month-if you dont say on top of it /prepare/buyer beware!

I know what you mean, when I go to the states and the only coffee at the airport is starbucks I say how bloody much do they want for that!?

BTW, it took 6 shots of starbucks coffee to get it close to the strength I am used to over here.

EB? From the look of them in our malls, they're about to be history. But I picked up fsx there in a bargain bin for $29 including the useless acceleration pack.

$80 a lot? As you're seeing, you get a heap of updates for that price, a true scalable world, and an ability to build what you want. MS Flight is very cheap, it's got a big future IMHO but the ultra high attention to detail and flexibility sits in xplanes court.

How do you find the new Columbia 400 ?

Well...........

The Pilot looks vaguely familiar........... :P

Other than that, I am still exploring which settings cause things to go strange. So far I have decided to back away from HDR completely with this version.
