August 9, 201213 yr @ Rónán O Cadhain...pretty sure you will have GOLD in the womens boxing. Your local lass has outclassed all she has met. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
August 9, 201213 yr For the record though guys, that was a ###### take in case any of yee think otherwise, we aren't that bad... Personally speaking, I grew up in rural Ireland, and used be well versed in hearding sheep. My dad has a medal for a competition like that on the show. I myself wasn't much good at it in open spaces like that, but I could bring them up the road no bother [still can]. Molly and Rossa, our dogs when I was of age to be helping on the farm, never seemed to think much of me asking them to heard. My brother was great at it though, he's the one running the farm at the minute. Took over from my dad a few years back, but he still has a hand in it. I can certainly see the entertainment factor in a show like that, some real tension in with the first man taking the sheep up there. I'm sure a show like that would do reasonably well here with Ireland with the rural demographic... Ró. Do you get th BBC in Ireland? They used to have a show called One Man and His Dog, which was also a recording of sheepdog trials. Wikipedia informs me that in the 80ies it used to have an audience of several million. Fingers crossed. Bit of controversy here yesterday after the BBC announced that she was part of team GB. The look on some peoples faces was priceless.... Do you get th BBC in Ireland? Some parts do, I didn't though up until about 12 years ago. Depends on where in the country you are and who your TV provider is. There certainly is something entertaining about it anyway, though perhaps it's an acquired taste... Ró Rónán O Cadhain.
August 9, 201213 yr Author I think watching One Man and his Dog is a bit of a bloke thing. You get strangely drawn into it  Shame it's not on anymore though. Presumably it's now pay-per-view on Sky :P

August 9, 201213 yr WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP!!!! YUP, gold medal in the bag!!! WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP!!! Ró. Congrats Rónán. NL is doing pretty well so far. Really enjoyed watching the swimming races last week. Especially when Ranomi Kromowidjojo won the 100m freestyle and you could see her think: '53 seconds, that's a pretty bad time, I should have done better. Oh wait, I won. Still it was a bad time. Oh, wait it's the finals my time doesn't matter, I came first so I won, I won!' At the moment I'm watching the NL-GBR hockey match and it's completely ridiculous, 9-1 with ten minutes left on the clock. John-Alan Pascoe
August 10, 201213 yr Congrats to Ireland. Katie Taylor is a class act and deserves that medal....Cheers. Thanks, she did us all proud. Each year in Ireland we have the national "Sheep Shearing" competition (Only in Ireland, right? ), and there's usually a day long display of sheep hearding running at that. That and of course the National Plowing Championship (Oh we really sound like culchies now... ). I must see if I can grab a bit of tape at it next time round and put it up on youtube... ^_^ Ró. August 13, 201213 yr Great Show guys....One of the best Games I've ever seen. London did a fantastic job. New Zealand came out with 5 Golds, 3 Silvers, and 5 Bronze. Great showing for a country with only 4.4 million from the bottom of the South Pacific. :zeland-flag: Congrats to everyone else as well... Cheers Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
