I don't think my other half was letching at the 56kg weightlifters we saw

What they can lift is unbelievable though - the winning clean and jerk lift was 168kg, equaling the WR. I'm reasonably strong for my size and I can deadlift about 130kg - so just below the waist. These guys are 10kg lighter than me and are lifting nearly 40kg more than me *above their heads*! :o

I am a huge fan of the Olympics. I worked the 1984 games and it is an experience I will never forget. I bought a 60" LED for no, not for flight simming but for the games! (ok, guess I'll have to use it for something after the games). The Brits are hosting superb games.

I've been trying to track down recordings of the opening ceremonies of the 1984, 1996 games. If anyone has some old VHS tapes in their closets......

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Good to hear that someone outside of the UK thinks we're doing a good job - hard to get a gauge here when the media are either foaming at the mouth after we win a medal or slating the organisation/travel/athletes at every other opportunity.

Well Ireland certainly thinks yeer doing a great job. And it's so close, it's great for us, all the handiness of having it close by, without having to pay a cent towards all the construction costs that went into it. Win win lol.... B)

New Zealand seems to be the best at all the sports that you play while sitting down....New Zealand is best at Rowing, Equestrian and Cycling. :LMAO:

If only Rugby was in the Olympics :zeland-flag:

It will be starting in 2016 in Rio.

Yep....Rugby Sevens will be at the Olympics starting in Rio, different set of rules but still great to watch.

Funny thing is the last nation to win a gold medal in Rugby at the Olympics is the USA back in 1924....Today the USA isn't very good at Rugby so New Zealand should easily take that title away from them. :P

Wiggins is doing really well and you guys need some more Olympic Gold. Usually the host nation starts bringing in the bling in the second week so it's not over yet...

Yes, the Olympics are really fun to watch. The only problem is that NBC is the channel that is broadcasting it.

NBC is a disgrace to sports broadcasting in general, but they've reached the peak of idiocy this year for sure.

I must admit I don't miss NBC Sports. The New Zealand coverage is very neutral by comparison and covers a global perspective, with follow-ups on local athletes.

Same with CTV here at home, I think they are doing a fantastic job.

I agree. Their commentary has been horrible and disrespectful to some of the smaller countries. I just want an upset to prove all these 'experts' wrong.

I think the USA and China should pull out of the Olympics entirely and just have their own Olympics to compete with each other. These two countries clearly still use the Olympics for political gain with China taking up the part where the former USSR left off.

With those two countries gone the Olympics would be a very different game for the rest of the world to enjoy....LOL

I don't see any political gain from it. In the US I guess there is now the tradition of any winning sports team or medal winners going to the Whitehouse at some point, but it gets reported in the back pages and that's about it. Mr Obama was keen on getting an olympics for Chicago but that didn't work out and I don't think anyone cares.

Then again especially in the winter olympics it seems like they all live and train in the US, and when not representing a US college they put on their country's uniform just for the olympics.
