Hello

I doubt it, how would I see to operate my Goflight MCP and radios ?

Very good point, since they are talking about releasing the SDK, see below, I wonder if a special glove you could wear can be made and attach to the device to be use inside the game like a touch screen? That would be awesome, can you imagine using your hand to touch the plane control like the radio, auto pilot +++, the sky would be the limit...

The SDK makes integration easy.

We’re already hard at work on a robust Oculus SDK that developers can use to integrate the Rift with their new and existing games. Our team has built great SDKs before and we’re excited to do it again.

All of the Rift dev kits include access to the Oculus Developer Center, which provides the SDK, technical support, and serves as a community for Oculus developers.

The SDK will include clean well-documented code, samples, and tutorials to make integration with any 3D game or application as easy as possible. We’re also working on out-of-the-box engine integrations for Unreal Engine and Unity, so that anyone interested in working with the Rift, including indie developers, can get started right away! I can see a glove on this guy facebook page...?

Edit: And if the interactive glove is possible there would be no more need for 3 or 4 flat screen monitors....lets dream...

This looks incredible. I can't wait to see some legit reviews for it.

good bye SLI!!! lol

This is the way forward for FS hardware. Integration of finger sensors with virtual cockpits and it is a done deal, an alternate reality.

Kind regards,

I could see this as great for some but not for others. If you want to build a hardware cockpit simulator, it's not going to work. The entire point of that is to have physical switches and the like to the simulator. However, if that's not an issue then I think this could work well. The main issue is they mentioned how things feel like they're in front of you in the distance. A key part for simulators is to be able to have the cockpit interior feel close to you. That said, this could be great.

Also, when I fly I need to be looking at charts and write down notes and find my glass of water, etc :)

Of course nothing will beat a real hardware simulator but not every body can build a cockpit like that, a good one will set you back thousands of dollars..

There are three ways to be immersed in a flight simulation, one is by being inside the virtual aircraft, sitting on the pilot's seat using the virtual controls from within utilizing such things as Track IR.

or

Being outside the simulated aircraft in a physical cockpit using the simulation to interface with the computer program and see a moving world outside your cockpit windows.

or

Being half in, half out.

I'd rather be in than out.

What I'm waiting for is a 3D visualization that can sense your focal depth and instantaneous adjust the view accordingly, e.g. hold you hand out about 2' in front your face while looking out a window, now change your eyes focus from your hand to what is outside the window. A lot changes in what the perceived image is, yet no bodily movement was made. If this 3D visualization system could do this my credit card would be taking a big hit soon. This system is definately cool though (motion sensing vision goggles has been a gaming holy grail for 15+ years now). I'll continue to watch with anticipation.

Another thing we'll be bugging or favorite developers for is a virtual arms in the VC so we can use the MCP's throttles and what not lol

I heard from the person who owns the sim in that video that it cost in excess of 100 grand.

Thanks,

Like to have track-ir and 3d glasses combined. Also, that virtual hand idea got potential long as it not like the Nintendo debacle back in the 90s.
