August 16, 201213 yr http://www.tasoftwar...hp?topic=1944.0 B) Loading times of nav stuff seems to be instant now and since the maps are cached they also load much faster. But on my system map scrolling is much slower now.(When airspaces are enabled.)

August 16, 201213 yr Will download and give it a try tonight. And performance increase noticed when running synced? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk William Sequeira
August 16, 201213 yr There isn't any in v3 unfortunately. I will stick with V2 Use it every day allen
August 16, 201213 yr Thanks for info! Must have just for the Xplane option, gonna leave v2 installed if i would need the option for terrain information... :)
August 16, 201213 yr I really hate to say anything bad about v3 but I can't use it. The most glaring problem I have with it is the resource demands of it doubled.. My client PC that I run it on is an i7 but only has a minimal graphics cards (8800 GT) and where Plan-G v2 was relatively smooth v3 is lagging like I'm trying to play Crysis or something. It's just completely unusable. The second issue I have is the fonts for whatever reason were changed to non-standard fonts and are slightly fuzzy.. Makes reading things a bit of a pain. Oh well.. v2 it is.. August 16, 201213 yr Moderator Hmm - that's strange. I ran it on an old system with an 8800GTS when I was testing it and it was fine. Much better than V2. Oh well - different systems - different results. Personally, I never used the terrain mapping so I don't miss it. I find it much more flexible, closer to what FSNAV was for FS9. August 16, 201213 yr Author styckx, try disabling airspace if you don't need it, much faster that way. Still, I agree with everything you said.
August 16, 201213 yr I haven't had a chance to use it while flying in FSX simultaneously, but so far it's working MUCH more smoothly for me. I can seamlessly drag the map around without any problems. I actually had to uninstall v2 a while back because not only was moving the map slow and gruesome, my FSX started to crash whenever I'd use it. So while this seems to currently be missing a couple of the old features, it's still a much welcome improvement for me at least.
August 16, 201213 yr I rejected plan-G in the past for not supporting route strings such as those from rfinder or vataware... When I saw the thread about the manual being available, I downloaded it, and skimmed through the route planning section to see if it would now have support for route strings, didn't see any mention of it, and lost most of my hope of it being worthwhile for me. However, I decided to give it a look anyway, and was surprised to discover that you can enter route strings on the 'direct' plan dialog. It will need some work to be truly useful (2 issues are, if the start/dest airports are in the route string, they're duplicated in the plan, and while the 'SID' placeholder from an rfinder string is ignored, the 'STAR' maps to a VOR somewhere near brazil, which can result in some VERY long european regional flights :) But, if anyone else was ignoring plan-G for the lack of route strings, you might want to bear in mind it has them now, and maybe will improve in future versions.
August 16, 201213 yr I'll give it a try. The problem with v2 for me was the lag in trying to move or zoom the map, especially with KMZ displayed.
August 17, 201213 yr The absence of terrain mapping in V3 is a show stopper for me unfortunately so it is back to V2. Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."
August 17, 201213 yr Thanks for the HU. Seems like I've missed the start. Well, I like it. It works much faster than V2 and the elevation data may not show up on the map but you can download some free one to be taken into account when planning. The new font isn't my favourite one so far, but the rest looks and feels leaner and faster and I like the extra windows. However, I decided to give it a look anyway, and was surprised to discover that you can enter route strings on the 'direct' plan dialog. Now that's a good tip. Where can I find that option? Edited. That one?
