1.4 Seem slower to me at the same airports. Can't load the LD 767. Crashes.

Any comments/help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

In another subject, i tried setting P3D to LOD9.0, loaded the heaviest (resource-wise) aircraft i have, set the departure from the supremely heavy EGLC scenery from UK2000 and "walked" around London with all 4 airports i have for it trying to make it crash with some OOM error. I failed - This is actually good :)

Hold on. That is possible with FSX too. I managed to go as high as LOD 15 I believe, I remember doing tests... all this is was without any scenery. Adding UTX pushed the usage considerably, and using airports just somewhat, but not much. So, even if you push the LOD up with an airport, it's like running without an airport, plus some 200mb, nothing serious.

A side by side comparison would be cool.

Word Not Allowed, so instead of 6.50000, we can set it up to 15.0000? If so, does it just up the vram usage? I want to put my vram's 4GB to good use! lol With 6.50000 and GTX/UTX/REX 4096 clouds, I've never seen my vram usage go higher than 700mb!

It's definitely possible to go higher with LOD than 6.5. The problem starts with the OOM crashes, when the VAS grows up to 4GB. It has nothing to do with VRAM, memory installed or anything else. You also can't put that VRAM to good use with FSX/P3D... the software doesn't support it. We would all be much happier bunch if it did!

Oh ok, damn, oh well. Hahaha Thanks for clearing that up.

I tried Mouse Yoke in VC but it is not working for me in P3D.

Works ok in FSX.

Anybody else test it ?

Guys, I'm working my &@($* off lately, so I hardly have time to test, BUT, I did one comparison tonight.

BP=0, yes or no?

Definitely no for me. Higher FPS without it, smoothness is comparable, even I'd say it's better without. LM really did something around this.

And beside that, windowed seems to suck bigtime in terms of stutters and smoothness in comparison to full screen. In FSX, there is also a difference here, but in P3D it's really big. Well, at least full screen is totally smooth now!

Do you think that maybe this weekend you could perform some tests to show FPS/Stutter improvements? I am seriously considering giving P3D 1.4 a try now.

I used to used v1.2 but I soon became bored. - Now with these 'performance improvements' I am starting to wonder if this is a viable long term solution for my configuration.

I don't know Ben. I'm swamped with work in the summer because of vacations in the company.

I'm thinking of running two user accounts, each for one sim. FSX in my main, and P3D in a new one. Basically everything installed twice, because each addon needs separate configuration. I'm not yet ready to ditch FSX for P3D...

Besides, before I even consider that, I will have to reinstall W7, as it seems I have an overloaded W7, a 3 year old installation, which at the boot doesn't load all taskbar icons and no matter what I do to it, I tried so many things already, it won't do it. I have to log off and log on and icons are there. And my W7 seems slower than usual.

That has a priority.

Is that worth $200.- for a slightly renovated FSX?

It's 50$, isn't it?

That is the question, especially considering how good FSX is right now with all the tweaks.

We are weighing FSX with tweaks vs P3D without. But sceneries are mostly not P3D certified or compatible, making them pain to install into P3D. Many of them work though, not all.

Hold on. That is possible with FSX too.

Nah, crashes after a while with OOM. Specially if you load up the Concorde, it won't last 2 minutes at EGLC.

Even at 49.95 for the academic version, not really. I'm thinking about returning it, mostly because it doesn't have a startup dialog to choose your aircraft, destination, etc. This often implies loading the scenery 2 or 3 times and it's just not feasible...

Stevew is working on a version of ideal flight for p3d. In addition to all its other features it could also work as a sophisticated launcher. Admittedly this is yet another addon you will need...

In the meantime, here's a decent workaround...

Get your flight setup how you want it, then save the flight. You can then open the flight file directly from the folder, using P3D as the program to run it when asked (or set it up in the folder options).

I have a file for each airport that I normally use, and usually only have to reload the aircraft.

Yes, starting from a saved situation allow to save one of the several reloads.

Still remains one if you want change time and/or season and one other if you want change weather.

Otherwise one should have a lot of saved situations with any combinations of them, for each airport which want use (unproposable).

Anyway, whenever you want try a variation in light or weather conditions, you have to reload.

I did that. For now it'll do :P

This can be the greatest new "feature" of last years in sim world.

If confirmed in others systems (and I will test it in next weeks) this behaviour alone can make the difference with the past FSX.

It would be highly desiderable.

At the moment, the waste of time needed to setup the initial situation through 3-4 reloads is the only reason stopping me from use Prepar3D as primary simulator.

Until we have a decent situation-setup tool or medium-smart launcher, FSX will survive.
