Hi Word Not Allowed,

Could you post your prepar3d.cfg please ? I still have stutters :-/

Thanks so much, carsten

Most training schools wont have a choice of 30 or 40 addon aircraft they will want the sim to launch with one aircraft at one airfield configured correctly to the hardware they have.

Yes, but if the instructor says to the student "Ok, lets' retry this lesson with a different weather..." Reload.

"Let's fly this by night instead daylight..." Reload.

Maybe they want have a training starting from a different airport flying to home base... Reload, Reload.

IMHO also for a school a simple situation setup screen should be an useful feature.

It's not needed to be a gaming style full of colours and animations screen; a simple form to choose airport, plane, time and season, weather and maybe some other details, would be enough.

Set the situation and load it only once, would save a lot of time for students and instructors.

setting the situation to load only once to save time can be done in p3d and no front end is needed as far as i know, just a couple of shortcuts on the desktop once the software has been configured by the instructor.

Very good and thanks. At least we have here a rational person doing the tests. Too many forum messages are simply emotional rants from people who have a very short fuse. Again thanks and hope you find some more time to offer comparatives.

Guys, I have no conclusive tests as of yet, only comparing some sceneries, flying around, loading FSX then P3D, then FSX, then P3D... I even bought the Migrator Tool to make this easier.

P3D has a clear step in the front over FSX. Texture loading is faster, I can't get the same FPS in FSX without sacrificing texture loading, thus getting blurries in FSX. P3D keeps fast and sharp textures. It's not much, don't expect 50%... or even 30%... but I can't just pinpoint how much, I know it's couple of FPS more, like 20-23 or so.

I'm doing all these tryouts inbetween, evening, morning, I barely have time to do them, and no screenshots or comparisons, so... just take my word for now :)

N1G - stutters are gone. Definitely. I'm very VERY sensitive to stutters and have test situations JUST to test that out.

It will stutter however if FPS drops below 30, just like FSX does. But in all honesty, that is expected if you load it PNW or similar sceneries with a whole bunch of autogen...

So basically you still have a one trick pony that is USER configurable. Don't get me wrong - I really LIKE P3D! Just that a front end is needed, especially for commercial use. In the commercial sim world, time is big $$$ and the load, reload, reload is costly. if i get the pilot in the sim, I want to configure ON THE FLY the scenario(s) i want and then let him go. If someone is booked for 2 hours in the sim, why waste valuable minutes loading and reloading?

It needs an easily configurable front end.

For those commercial customers who fly only one a/c in one situation ( and i can NOT think of why they would ever do that) - it would be fine. Push button and go but not if you want flexibility.

Just MHO

If you go to the folder ...\Documents\Prepar3D Files\ and click on a file ending with the extension .FLT double click on that file and then associate it with Prepar3d.exe, you can then just click on the files and it will automatically load that saved flight. Serious commercial entities will have programmed their own front ends via Simconnect.

Cheers, Andy.

I couldn't get EZCA to work with 1.4. It turned out that on my setup, starting EZCA from the exe.xml (like it used to work for previous versions) for some reason hangs P3D. The workaround is to start P3D and once it has finished loading, switch to windowed mode and launch EZCA manually (C:\Program Files (x86)\EZCA\EZCA.exe).

Update : solved with Word Not Allowed's help below :

in order to get EZCA to load thru the exe.xml file, you also need FSUIPC's dll's to be loaded thru a dll.xml.

If you are also a Track-Ir user, no need to fiddle with the language.dll file

Just a reminder for those are familiar with EZCA but never used it with Prepar3D

- make sure you installed the latest version from Flight1 (1.1.7.0)

- dowload EZCA beta for Prepar3D here. Backup your current EZCA.exe (C:\Program Files (x86)\EZCA\EZCA.exe) and replace it by the one from the archive you just downloaded. Don't worry, this beta also works with FSX.

- as EZCA Config.exe doesn't work with Prepar3D, you will have to add the following lines to the aircraft.cfg of each Prepar3D plane you want to use EZCA with.

Jean-Paul, no problems here running EZCA the same way it is run in FSX. I have the 1.17 P3D beta version I think, and I just copied over my dll.xml and exe.xml and deleted the FSX stuff that is not needed. EZCA loaded without a glitch or ANY other changes. Same with FSUIPC 4.85, which I just copied manually from FSX modules folder.

Yes, and they could write DOS batch files to accomplish it too! I agree Andy but seriously - if I am a commercial user and I spend many thousands of $$$ for a simulator - do you really think I will be happy having to program my own interface? Depending on the cost, I might be more inclined to lean on the vendor to provide what I want, if they want the sale. For a $50 or $200 sim - yup, I can write my own.

I am guessing here but I'd be wiling to bet that LM plans to include a front end but at this stage, it is not a priority.

Solved : for some strange reason, I needed FSUIPC ! I added a dll.xml which only loads FSUIPC and now EZCA loads fine from the exe.xml.

Thanks Srdan ( and Pete !)

Hi,

The only aircraft I use in P3D is the PMDG 737NGX and I keep a backup of FSUIPC's config file, I do this because I hate having to re-enter all my button/rocker switch/axis data. I was addressing a problem someone else was having with their throttles, I'm not having any problems myself. It's a good idea to keep a backup of your config file, after I upgrade to the latest copy of FSUIPC , I just copy and paste the old config file/settings that has all of my hardware control definitions.

Thanks for the link though...

I was invited once to see a professional simulator. That thing had 10 high-end computers, worth each one about 4,000. Along with a professionally designed and mounted cockpit with a hemispheric screen. That thing was worth around $300,000 to $500,000

8 computers were needed to process the graphics in the simulator. The instructor has its own workstations and the 10th was the master that controlled everything. All 10 had a copy of the simulation software. There was no need for a user interface since the rig was configured for a single aircraft type: a SAAB Gripen. The system always booted at the runway, just like P3D and it was the instructor who decided whether to change flight parameter at any time during flight.

So, you can see that a user interface is actually not necessary, nor required, for a training simulator.

Jean-Paul Mes fr.png,

Thank you.

This got Ezca and TrackIr loading and working automatically in P3D 1.4.
