GE, RR or PW?

Featured Replies

GE90-115B, i love the start up, the idle, and most of all the spool up. Theres no mistaking the sound of a 90, its the most awesome sounding engine in the skies in my opinion.

I love the RR and the GE.. The trents on the 200er are just perfect in my opinion, they are smaller than the GE's, and have the deepest rumble..

I do love the whine's of the GE's though

RR engineering is great and I love the rumble they make starting. However, you have to wonder about the quality of their component manufacture considering some of the high profile failures over the last few years

My favourite engine is the PW4000-112. It has the most unique spool up sound, particularly at about 12% N1, the low frequency howl. It's just amazing!

I'm currently making an FSX soundpack of this engine. I have the howl perfect so far ;)

Not too long until it will be finished. Btw, there's sound cone of course.

RR is my favorit! Good sound of a brand with a lot of history.

I love the grinding noise of the RR :D

Personally I love the sound of the GE90-115B1's on the 300. From my perspective though we can't hear them very well as they are too far back and the company frowns at cracking the DV windows on take-off! Big aeroplance but amazing performance. An idel fact from the interblah is that a single GE90-115B provides enough thrust to fully power a 747 in the cruise. :P

The Rollers are fantastic engines with a huge power margin over the GE-90's for hot and high places in the 200. JNB and DEN are two places that I would always prefer the flexibilty of the Roller over the GE. Never needed the 'Denver bump' on the Rolls Royce engines!

I know this topic is about the sound, but I'm a sucker for the visuals of the GE or PW on the T7. The RR's are much smaller relative to the other two choices, as evidenced by the majority of British Airway's T7s, and kind of look funny. One of the first things I remember about the introduction of the T7 into service was the size of the engines, folks always used to say they were the biggest jet engines of all time!

For looks/power the GE90-115's, but for sound the RR, unquestionably!

Usually I like RR when given choice... but those huge GEs.... man, you could fit a 737 through that duct...

For me just because of the pure sound (& the fact that it's a Roller) the Trent ...

Most of my T7 flights have been on UA, so I really enjoy the sound of the PWs. But, I finally got to experience the Trents a short while ago and I'm in love. Just something about that growl/whine when spooled up for TO that's just so awesome. Plus I think it's cool that they are a 3 stage engine. It would be great to see an N3 indication in the sim (afaik there aren't any ac for FSX that have the Trents modeled).
