Bump up FPS please?

Featured Replies

So I know this has probably been asked 100000000000000000000000000 times, but something I am doing just isn't working. I have a it-2500K OC to 4.2 Ghz, GTX 560 Ti, and 8GB of RAM. And Yet I only get about 21 fps when I load up the PMDG 737NGX with ORBX Jackson hole at night.

I pretty much followed everything of Word Not Allowed's tweaking guide, have an external FPS limited to 30fps.

I know there is SOMEthing else I can do to bump it up? Maybe overclock to 4.5 Ghz?

Thanks!

Yes, Oc your i5 farther. Those 2500K's can reach 4.8 water cooled, occasionalyy over 5. Try oc'ing the GPU, lower a few settings.

ORBX- the way to go

Well that's great, but I don't have a liquid cooler. My CPU temp is about 50 degrees C at 4.2 Ghz

As long as your CPU core temps stay below 80 degrees C (under full load!), you should be OK.

Use RealTemp to measure while FSX is running.

As long as your CPU temp is below 80 degrees C (under load!), you are OK.

So if it's under 80 degrees C, it won't burn or anything? I want my PC to last a LONG time...

I can offer no guarantees - so read up on overclocking.

Check the hardware forum for more guidance!

The short of it, is that if you are concerned about possibly damaging your CPU, you should not be overclocking, period!

And don't expect miracles - your fps are not going to jump up if you overclock further,

this may be the best your system can do, given the add-ons, and the settings!

Water cooling worked wonders for my PC.

Pre-water-cooling I had 38deg idle CPU and 55deg idle GPU (Intel i7 3820 @ 3.6gHz and an ATI 6990 dual GPU card..

Now, 25 deg idle CPU and 35 deg idle GPU, and under full load FSX 6000 x 1200 res, CPU doesnt go over 38 and GPU doesnt go over 40..

CPU is clocked to 4gHz, and its almost silent too, but it was expensive :-(

Try specialtech

Flying the stock 737-800 with all sliders maxed out does 40fps+ @ 500ft over central london with zero mods to FSX as yet, its a clean install of FSX+Acc with nothing else installed...

I dare say once I re-install the PMDG 737NGX, this will fall dramatically and require tweaking..

Basically, dont be too dissapointed with what your getting, anything over 24fps isnt really visible to the naked eye anyway.

I noticed too that airports at night, if your parked at a gate seem to give really bad FPS, specially if you have traffic enabled, mine dropped to 12fps when sat parked at the gate in the PMDG-NGX @ heathrow.

I wonder if its possible to offload the PMDG avionics onto another PC using Wide-FS or simconnect or something like that?

If it is, then that might help a lot?

I have a similar spec to you, if you tell me your settings I will do a similar test. I know from experience flying at night takes a fair few fps of my system.

Your performance is dependent on so mnany factors. Perhaps you might want to show us your fsx.cfg (though you might want to edit out the [TRUSTED] section, as we don't need to see all the gauges and addons...

You see, if you run all sorts of AI traffic, air, sea and/or ground, max autogen, high resolution clouds at max draw distance and so on, you will easily bring even the best system to its knees in some airports/regions...

It is all down to finding your own personal sweetspot, which is always going to be a compromise of eye candy vs. usability.

Perhaps if you post this, someone can guide you a little more specifically...

I get usable frame rate when coming into KJAC in the NGX with my i7 950 @ 4GHz, GTX470, 6Gb RAM and SSD for FSX... but I do have a few well documented (Word Not Allowed, ******* Altuve etc...) minor alterations to the fsx.cfg, which I believe have an effect on performance.

ummmm... I have my fsx locked to 21 fps because to all intents and purposes it is smooth at that setting. If I increase it to 25 or 30, i don't see any visual difference unless I spend my entire simming time looking for the faintest of clues that it 'might' look a bit smoother.

Turn the fps counter off and do some flying to enjoy the sim, not the performance!

Really?

you either have the eyesight of my 90 year old granny or you are only looking at it while sat at 35,000 feet in some heavy.

Which is it?

The FPS counter is not required to see the difference either. it's night and day between 21 and 30 with the mark 1 eyeball.

With FSX, PMDG NGX, and KJAC and Chrome running at the same time, my core temps never go above 50 degrees celcius. How much do you think I should push my i5??

Of coarse, here it is:

In the graphics section you have Texture_Max_Load=1024 entered twice. TextureMaxLoad=30 is set way too high. Default is 6. Recommend the entry be removed as it will default to 6 without it in the config or the PerfBucket setting. TextureMaxLoad only works without unlimited FPS and your FPS are set to unlimited. IMHO, if you don't know what a tweak does, you shouldn't put it in your config. Word Not Allowed has an explanation for each tweak and what it will or will not do. The problem with Bojote's tweaking tool is that people get tweaks thrown into their config that are not needed whatsoever as the individual has a very fast system. WideAspectView=False should be True as you have a 21 inch monitor. It is strange that you are not getting very good framerates as you have AI turned off and your scenery sliders are fairly low. Display driver settings can also have a major affect on FSX fps. Too high and FSX is not going to run properly. Overclocking to 4.4GHz will help but don't do unless you are familiar and confident with overclocking.

Best regards,

Jim

Summer1 - I don't see an affinity mask setting in your config (the header at the top says that your cfg file has been optimized for a 1 core CPU). Also, no [bUFFERPOOLS] Usepools=0, or poolsize settings at all.

I highly recommend that you delete this config file (or save it as a backup) and start FSX and let it create a new one. Then follow Word Not Allowed's set-up guide step by step. Don't pick and choose and do NOT do both the Bojote tool and Word Not Allowed's guide. Also note that Word Not Allowed's setup supports a new feature in Nvidia inspector that lets you set the Vsync at 1/2 the monitor refresh rate. That is a key part of his guide. With your system, you should see good results with his set-up, but your config file now is cluttered with tweaks that don't compliment each other. Good luck!

Ok, I am just so confused on what TO PUT and what NOT to put when it comes to my system!! Uh.

What do I put for the bufferpools tweak????

What about the affinity mask?

ETC....

And firehawk 44, when you say it's surprising that I am not getting good frames.... how do I solve that problem? All of my drivers are up to date...

HOWEVER ever since I did that Nvdia inspector edit thing, my fps did seem to drop alot. Problem is, I don't know really the best settings, or what my original settings were..
