October 14, 201213 yr Hi All Just wondered if anyone has removed any of the default aircraft from fsx, I'm thinking of removeing some as I will never use them again eg the 737,747 as I have the pmdg versions. Would it be as simple as removing the relevant folders in the sim objects folder or is it more complicated? thanks Pete Little
October 14, 201213 yr What often happens is that other airplane developers use gauges from the default aircraft, so if you delete the defaults, you can often find gauges missing from third-party AC that you might install. An example would be that the Aerosoft Twin Otter uses the autopilot of the default Maule. Generally, it is better to leave the default AC installed to avoid these problems. Lose not thine airspeed, lest the ground rise up and smite thee.
October 14, 201213 yr Hi Pete It is a little more complicated than that, and I would advise you to leave at least one example of each of the default aircraft in the sim. Third party addon`s may use them for various reasons, and there is also the traffic files. I also tried just to remove them complete, and got a lot of freezing and errors in the sim. So now I am running with one example of each ( 1. one in the cfg file ) and so far no problems They do take up som space on your disc, But my advise is, leave one in the sim. Leave the one which contains the panel, sound and generic textures Best regards Soeren
October 14, 201213 yr I removed them all and i have no problems. I left the gauges in their places though. I can't believe manufacturers use parts of default aircraft to build their own payware, this is just lazyness and making us pay for what we already have... Meh. October 14, 201213 yr Simply rename panel.cfg https://www.youtube.com/user/JustaRandomSimmer Simulator Videos http://sierra-hotel.blogspot.com Aviation Picture Blog
October 14, 201213 yr You can leave the aircraft where they are and simply go to the relevant aircraft's panel folder and add an extension, I use -OFF. That way everything should still function but they won't clutter up your aircraft panel. That way everything should still function but they won't clutter up your aircraft panel. Have done the same. Just renamed the panel folder to panel_off. never had a problem and if I ever want to go back to a plane, I still have the plane installed. I am reluctant just to delete default planes.
October 15, 201213 yr What I did is simply rename the aircraft.cfg to aircraft_cfg. This way, FSX will never see the aircraft. If you rename the panel folder you will get the same result. Only FSX will still access the aircraft.cfg file and stop his inventory when it sees that there is no panel folder. So I guess mine is 0,000 000 000 05 ms quicker lol Regards, Vital Vanbeginne

A bit offtopic, but I'll bite.... If you decide to build something yourself (let's say a piece of furniture), are you going to manufacture each single part yourself, or would you go to the shops to buy nails, fabric and other stuff? You call it lazyness, others call it being efficient and not reinventing the wheel .

Majority of freeware uses parts from the sim, i see no difference in a payware release doing the same. Some don't have the skills to produce every single part from scratch. In scenery, many releases use default textures, objects, autogen, landclass, snippets of code, it is all designed for the same purpose, use in FS, nothing more. The main thing the EULA frowns upon is reengineering of parts of the sim, such as taking an MDL/BGL apart and adding, subtracting to it. Best, Michael KDFW
October 15, 201213 yr Hey fellas, just had a thought. If I effectively 'switch off' my default aircraft, will they still be used for AI purposes? October 15, 201213 yr In a word, no. I no longer use default for my AI even though it is an option available to me in "my traffic". However, if you use default planes for AI then you cannot disable them. Regards Stuart
October 15, 201213 yr I'm glad this thread surfaced as I'm coming back from FSX hibernation and I could use some help in that department. I've made a mistake of removing a few default aircraft a while back, I've brought them back by copying the aircraft folders back to SimObject directory but I was never able to get a few things working again, For example, I've lost the G1000 in the default Cessna and I have absolutely no idea how to get that working again? Also, does anyone know which default gauges are used by the Duke B60? I've lost the GPS and the autopilot displays. I guess it's an issue of reconnection but I have absolutely no idea how to get that done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jacek G.
