December 1, 201213 yr Commercial Member @Pete Dowson: it has actually worked with FSX from the beginning; just check 'FSX installed?' and enter the appropriate folder and file names in the preferences; then choose 'FSX Launcher' in the options menu or click on the FSX icon in the middle of the toolbar. Great! I'll download it now! Thanks! Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. GPU: RTX 24Gb Titan 2 x 2160p projectors at 25Hz onto 200 FOV curved screen
December 1, 201213 yr Commercial Member it has actually worked with FSX from the beginning I tried it today. I updated to Version 4.0. But I'm having some problems. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'm simply making small changes, like time of day, airport location or whatever, to my default FSX flight, which is sees and shows correctly. But on pressing "Fly Now", FSX loads but pretty soon fails with the error which says it cannot find or does not like the FLT file. Rather than a flight called "SimLauncher.flt" as documented, it seems to send it a command line parameter for a flight file named after my default flight file but with "_edit" appended to the filename. It gives the path to it as my AppData\Local\Temp folder. Upon checking there, there is no such file. The only file created at about the correct time is one called JET865E.tmp. That may not be yours -- it disappears when the FSX load is aborted from the FLT loading error. As well as this there seems to be two other problems. One is that when clicking Fly Now it laways prompts saying the aircraft is moving and should I continue. I don't understand why it thinks it is moving. My start-up default flight is cold and dark, parking brake on, static at a gate in EGCC. The other dialogue displays in SimLauncher confirms all this. Finally, every alternate time I start SimLaunch, after it loads the MakeRunways data, it disappears into the task bar, producing no Window at all, only the icon in the task bar which can't be opened as a window. Next time i start it, it has reset its Window to top left (0,0). Seems something goes wrong with its window sizing and positioning, and having no moving and sizing system buttons it can't be corrected manually. It does look like it would be a really useful program if only I could make it work properly. Any idea what I'm doing wrong Best Regards Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. GPU: RTX 24Gb Titan 2 x 2160p projectors at 25Hz onto 200 FOV curved screen

December 1, 201213 yr Can only find version 3.2 in the Avsim library. Can anybody please tell me where to find the current version. Dave Install 3.2. The program does an automatic update after the installation and launch. Russ
December 1, 201213 yr @Pete Dowson: can you send me your simlauncher.ini file and your simlauncher.log file (both can be found in the installation folder) so I can have a look at what's happening? If you have the offending flight file from just before you press 'Fly now' (either simlauncher.flt or ..._edit.flt in your temp folder), that would help as well. My e-mail address is in the readme or in the about box. When you create a new flight it will be called simlauncher.flt and when you edit an existing flight, I add _edit to the original file name; both are saved to your temp folder (%TEMP%). I released 4.2 just now: amongst other things, it fixes a runtime error when you create or save a flight with an aircraft thas has no pitot heat (like the default trike in FSX), but unfortunately I don't think it will solve the issue you are seeing. thanks, Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
December 2, 201213 yr Guys; it is now at v4.0, the author, Mawibo from Leiden, is to be absolutely thanked and congratulated. It is a great service to P3D users and I would hope Lockheed Martin would just buy the rights from him and attach it to their next update. The outstanding Pete Dowson has as always contributed constructively. Or is that too sensible? More directly congratulations to Maarten Boelens of Leiden. What is most impressive, the updates just keep being made, and by the time it is settled we will really have an opening GUI for P3D that we have all demanded and Maarten has supplied. KInd regards, Ian McPhail
December 2, 201213 yr Hello guys, I tried last week this powerful tool (v3.8 or v3.2 don't remember) but no lucky about get working. I have tried with Aerosoft and FsDreamteam sceneries but when I choose a specific gate the flight is loaded with the aicraft in a wrong position, causing sometimes a flight crash due to object collision. I have run makerunways.exe tool so I thought to be right. Thanks bye. Riccardo Capt. RICCARDO RIGHETTIProud customer of the PMDG 737NGX and PMDG 777X (wating for next... December 2, 201213 yr @Riccardo: the gate positioning should now be correct; don't forget to run the makerwys tool every time you install new scenery and make sure to enable all sceneries before you do that, otherwise you might end up with wrong coordinates. You can also click on the Google Earth button to verify that you will be positioned in the correct spot. thanks, Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX

If you have the offending flight file from just before you press 'Fly now' (either simlauncher.flt or ..._edit.flt in your temp folder), that would help as well. Using 4.2 now. So far I haven't had a repeat of the problem of no window. However, the other two problems are still there: 1. The temporary .flt file is actually created, but it then disappears before FSX can load it. I've found this is related to my setting the "Close SimLauncher" option. If I put up with SimLauncher sitting in the background all the time I'm running FSX then it works. So, I think this is merely a case of your temporary file being deleted when the program closes. I suggest that you don't create the flight as a Temporary file, and don't name it uniquely from the base flt, but instead use your "SimLauncher.flt" name and save it to the normal FS flights folder. Using the same name every time will avoid the accumulation of "temporary" files (there only ever being the one). I did think that the solution could be to simply delay the closure of the program when that option is selected, but in fact the removal of the last flight file loaded would cause a problem in FS later if the "reset flight" option is used. BTW I don't see an equivalent "wx" file being created. Shouldn't the wx file from the base flt, upon which the amendments are made, be copied with the new name too? 2. I am still being prompted about the aircraft moving. This is with a cold and dark, parked at gate, starting flight. Files on the way -- the FLT file is okay. The INI will be after I unchecked the "close" option. Regards Pete Win10: 22H2 19045.2728 CPU: 9900KS at 5.5GHz Memory: 32Gb at 3800 MHz. December 2, 201213 yr Many thanks for your outstanding program, Maarten. Your dedication with releasing updates is also impressive. This is an absolute must-have for any P3D user. Keep up the good work! Regards, Ade

Now it works very well, just tried a few tests and no problems so far. Now I have not to waste time loading a flight at least three times choosing the flight time, the departure airport & gate, the aircraft and so on. Thanks again. Bye. Riccardo Capt. This is an amazing program. So good that although at the moment I'm running FSX and P3D side by side (coward that I am !), I'm seriously considering getting rid of FSX altogether. Well done Maarten
December 2, 201213 yr Maarten Your Sim Launcher is an outstanding piece of work. Thank you for your efforts. It makes P3D initial selections so much simpler. Being able to control the variables before start up is fantastic. Russ
December 2, 201213 yr Hi all, Thank you for your nice words! The issue mentioned above by Pete Dowson is probably fixed and his suggestions are implemented. I have sent him a new version to test, so it will take a couple of days, I guess, before I release 4.3. In the meantime it would be best to leave 'Close Simlauncher after launch of simulator' (bottom left of main window) unchecked. If anyone of you has some ideas for further improvement or a wish for a new feature, please let me know. thanks, Maarten Maarten Boelens ([m][a:][R][t][ʏ][n]) Developer of SimLauncherX
