Which Lancair?

I only have the RealAir so can only provide a one-sided comment, but it is one of the best GA Aircraft in my hanger for sure. Great for flying GA with a few barrel rolls thrown in for good measure! :-)

It's a bit like asking "Which is best, the A2A Spitfire or the A2A B17?" They're two different animals. The only connection is the name 'Lancair'

Well, they are produced from to completely separate development groups.

In your example you seem to imply that these aircraft are both made by RealAir or ORBX.

Own both. Haven't bothered re-installing the Orbx version. It's very different, and it's true that it's like comparing apples and oranges, but the Realair is really something special. It's among the best GA aircraft ever made I think, and I've owned a lot of addons.

My favourite effect on the Realair is that moment when the gear locks in. And, yes, the loud fuel pump. I was missing the VC rain a bit though. The Duke had that.

I like the "reward" for poor flap usage: *bang!*

I like watching the flap effects as they vibrate when extended.

Looks real.

Don't have the RealAir yet, but VI-P is suited better for IFR plans, long routes @ high FL.

I don't own the IV-P, but I really love the Legacy, and I can only recommend it. It's my favorite GA plane so far.

As totally different aircraft with differing markets, it is hard to compare. I have both, though only one resides in FSX, the other sits embedded in its installer on my archive drive...

The one I fly regularly? Why, the Realair of course... Too many things make it the better choice in my book. But you won't get much higher than say 12000' in it...

Great IFR-capable GA plane nonetheless...

Point 1: Given that the whole thread is asking 'RealAir or Orbx' that comes as no big surprise!

Point 2: My example was of two equally excellent aircraft but totally different, so comparison is useless. If you got the implication the Lancairs were made by the same developer then it's your reading that's at fault.

Sorry if I appear rude but being patronised isn't one of my strong points.

I have both, bought each one when they came out, but since buying the Legacy I have not flown the Orbx even once. I enjoy flying the Legacy much better, but one thing that really spoils the Orbx for me is the engine sound. Am I the only one the that thinks the Orbx Lancair sounds like a Mosquito buzzing around your ear? I have never heard what a real one sounds like, but the Legacy to me sounds MUCH more convincing. Sounds are important too.
