November 28, 201213 yr How about a fictional flight from Mataveri International Airport (SCIP) on Easter Island to Pegasus Field (NZPG) in Antarctica? Possibly the most isolated flight. . . .
November 28, 201213 yr Also don't forget that a 8 hours flight on a high end machine (let's says equipped with a 850/1000W power supply) will cost you 1.5/2€ in electricity based on the average cost in Europe.....so launching a long haul and going to sleep is not really cost effective....and if you do that in August you'll get 30° in the computer room easily !! too much, too soon....
November 28, 201213 yr I think a flight from Los Angeles to Sidney must be even worse. Nothing but water and very little traffic passing by....... Menno You should try it in real life. I have made that flight on UAL and Qantas a couple of dozen times over the last 30 years or so, and 15 hours (give or take) is a long slog. At least in FS you can do a X8 flight. In real life, you can get drunk, hungover, sober up and start all over again three times before you get to Sydney. Of course, if you are making a connection to Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth etc., that approach to surviving the flight is NOT a good idea. The other thing to note about that flight is that it lands at about the same time as most of the Asian flights are landing as well as flights from SFO and Air Canada; JAL, ANA, China Air, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. ALL OF THEM land within about a 60 minute window in the morning. If your flight is late, you are going to stand in the immigration que for a LONG LONG time. PS Just noticed this is my 4000 post I'm officially an Eight Star member - WOO-HOO Congratulations Tom! November 29, 201213 yr Yes, I echo Tom's comments regarding flights to Sydney. I started doing them every year in the late 80's when I was living down under, Melbourne-Sydney-LAX-SFO, mainly on UAL, initially through PHNL until the B744's were available. I moved to the US in 1991 and have made the flight in the reverse direction most years since. Yes, a long flight, hitting the booze sounds good when the flight starts, but is not a pretty way to end the flight. At least I can sleep easily on these flights. Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. November 29, 201213 yr I flew YSSY - SAEZ last year...about 13 hours there...stayed for 10 days, and 15 hours back....the issue is that when you go for such a small period of time, you get the same darn movies to watch, and in a flight that long, you end up watching about 4 movies and you are still bored! November 29, 201213 yr My longest flight in real life that I can accurately recall was VHHH–KJFK. FlightAware estimates this flight to be approximately 15 hours, but I thought it was longer. Regardless, I was fortunate enough to be in Cathay Pacific's new business class on the B777-300ER. Some people do not like the herring-bone configuration, but believe me—it was much more comfortable and private than other business and high-quality economy classes I have ridden! My most recent flights were over Thanksgiving: KITH–KPHL, KPHL–LIRF, and the returning routes, all flown by US Airways. The longest leg was LIRF–KPHL, which was approximately 9 hr 30 min. Surprisingly, the A330 economy seats were decent and new, and the Canadair CRJ-200LR (apparently this is the same as the Bombardier version) was one of the quietest commercial aircraft I have ridden. One of the A330 landings is on my YouTube channel, to those who are interested.
November 29, 201213 yr I find long haul flight fun. Mainly because I fly over night so I sleep while the autopilot is doing all the work. I usually fly london - boston, london - hong kong, london - seoul, london - sint maarten and when I get my hand over the 777 I will probably fly london - sydney/new zealand. The MD11 will even perform the step climbs for you while you log your ZZZs. I treat it as crew augmentation. But I'm looking forward to an ultra long haul from DFW - HKG in the PMDG 777LR. Ryan Kelly
November 29, 201213 yr Author Actually many transatlantic flights to Florida from the UK will route to Nova Scotia then down the US coast, so your flight doesn't need be completely over the ocean to be realistic. I know, but I wanted to do the exact route BAW207 was doing that day. - Luke Pabari

What you describe is the only way I do long haul. But I do like to do it. Why, because I like that I can traverse the virtual world and change timezones, etc. Jeff Bea I am an avid globetrotter with my trusty Lufthansa B777F, Polar Air Cargo B744F, and Atlas Air B748F.

I REALLY REALLY hope that this feature will be put into the PMDG (even if it isn't real). OR, I'll have to use the SDK to write a module that will do it for me. November 29, 201213 yr Longest I have done was YVR-SYD in the POSKY 77L. It was painful. Before landing, panning to the overhead and then remebering the VC overhead buttons were not functional!! I sort of cheated by putting in a massive tailwind for the whole flight. "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend
November 29, 201213 yr when another fella came in from Singapore and decided to land without gear. Ah, well, now I understand! So that's what happens when you do NOT go to bed during the long haul... ^_^
December 9, 201213 yr Heathrow to Gatwick. Boy that was tiring Yeah, that definitely took a lot of time and energy to do. Captain Kevin Air Kevin 124 heavy, wind calm, runway 4 left, cleared for take-off. Live streams of my flights here.
December 9, 201213 yr Are you serious my friend from Norway? You set up a long haul flight, slap on the autopilot then go to bed and wake up to land??!! Wow! That's serious dedication!! What's wrong with that? I do that when I work sometimes. I sure as heck am not sitting in front of my pc for 14 hours straight. Sent from my iPhone...typing errors imminent AJ Pongress
