December 30, 201213 yr Since installing FSX Acceleration on my Win 7 PC I have had nothing but trouble with add-ons. Surely the whole point is that they are easy to use, I'm interesting in piloting not getting a computer science degree! These are a small list of my complaints. Cannot save flight when flying the PDMG 737 with FS2Crew. REX seems to crash when flying all the time. FS2Crew has trouble with voice commands on dials. the green text is picking up the correct words like "set speed 180" but the MCP dial goes crazy. I havent noticed any difference in the Europe scenery after buying GEX Europe, what a waste of money! The only add-ons that do work are the airport scenery ones!
December 30, 201213 yr I'm interesting in piloting not getting a computer science degree! Those only come in pairs when talking about FSX. ^_^ Seriously, sorry reading about the trouble. You've picked an honest thread title but maybe there is some help. Note. To some extend, my above 'joke' is true. You may have to look into some details of the OS and sim. Which Win7 version are you running? 64bits or 32? Is that a freshly installed FSX we're talking about? Perhaps list the addons you have installed. Did you run all installers with a right click and then 'run as admin'? Also disable your antivirus for the time installing new and reliable addons. If the sim crashes, it may generate an entry in the . This entry may point at a possible cause. So it's vital to look into it. If only REX crashes (the interface of theirs), this may point to some trouble with the DotNet components needed. Those are free downloads and one can reinstall them via the Windows menu for adding/removing programs. Windows update then makes sure they are current. Paul has posted some tools for those actions here. http://forum.avsim.n...s/#entry2423537 Stay with us, God (that your name? ). I'm sure some competent folks chime in sooner or later. I havent noticed any difference in the Europe scenery after buying GEX Europe, what a waste of money! GEX mainly offers new textures for all the rural or dense city parts. Well, the installation consists of two parts. Installing the addon and then really installing the textures into FSX. The interface may show something looking like a copy action for the latter step. If the manual doesn't help you, the folks from Flight1 run a forum for it. Also, you can return the product within 30 days if it really isn't you cup of tea.
December 30, 201213 yr Yep, usability sucks. That is the downside of FSX being wide open to third party development. Usability has never been a priority among most developers, but they are shooting themselves in the foot since many just give up on installing and buying addons... On the other hand, FSX would have been pretty dull and outdated by now without addons. You'll just have to suck it up and try to get support from those who sold you the addons. December 30, 201213 yr Author I'm running 64bit. My PC specs are: i7 920 9GB RAM Nvidia 560 Ti It is a freshly installed FSX downloaded from the Windows store. I only had a short play before installing all the add-ons (I only have a few not 100s which might cause issues lol!). When installing FSX and add-ons sometimes a window pops up asking me for "Do you want the following program to make changes to your computer". I cannot remember which did ask and which did not, however I am running all the add-ons as administrator. Yep, usability sucks. That is the downside of FSX being wide open to third party development. I'm gald you agree, thats why i stick to consoles lol
December 30, 201213 yr When installing FSX and add-ons sometimes a window pops up asking me for "Do you want the following program to make changes to your computer". I think this happens when a program requests administrative rights or accesses certain folders/files and the Windows user account control ask for permission. One may disable that feature in general or stick to right clicking every installer file and really using the 'run as admin' option. For trusted installer files that is, not the 'win a free iPod' ones. ^_^ I'm not sure if some addons still get in trouble though. That Windows UAC surely was meant for good but seems to conflict with some items from our small flight sim world. Are you new to Win7 and FSX then? Just asking because it helps the helpers. So to speak. By the way, which folder is your FSX installed in? Did you pick a special one or is it sitting in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X?

December 30, 201213 yr If you do install to the default, simple go into security and turn off User Access Control or right click install icon and run as Admin. Rule #1 Save a copy of your fsx,cfg before changing anything in FSX so you can revert if something goes wrong Rule #2 for addons, only install one at a time and then make sure all is ok before doing the next one. December 30, 201213 yr Run FSX "as administrator." And as CooIP pointed out, run your installs as administrator also. Lose not thine airspeed, lest the ground rise up and smite thee.
December 30, 201213 yr Somebody used Vista? MS only invented Vista to later boost Win7 sales. But you haven't heard that from me. -_- ^_^ More on the topic. Isn't it fun to come to FSX and Windows, then hear that you never should use the path the darn installer suggests and also to find out that the UAC doesn't keep any dangers out, but mostly installers from.. installing? And the weird stuff doesn't even end there.
December 30, 201213 yr At least with Vista x64, you can (laboriously) turn off the bloatware and get MSFS to run well. December 30, 201213 yr Never ever install your FSX stuff in C:\Program Files (x86) on a windows 7 and above computer........ IMHO, this is a matter of opinion / personal preference and not a hard and fast rule. I have never had any problem with FSX-Accel installed in the default location in WIN7-64. Never. The very first thing I did after installing WIN7 was to completely disable UAC. After installing FSX I set it to run as Admin, and I do the same with all add-on installers (scenery, a/c, etc). Heavy add-ons like REX and AS2012 also run as Admin. It's been smooth sailing all the way. - Jev McKee, AVSIM member since 2006. December 30, 201213 yr Oh those Vista posts remind me of the Vista uiatuomationcore.dll needed to run FSX on Win7 without a crash to desktop. Hmpf.
