737 NGX.

It is widely regarded as the best ever add-on aircraft for any version of Flight Simulator.

Their 747 is pretty good but was originally released in 2005 (FS9 version) and 2007 (FSX version) so is years behind, as you would expect.

In short - get the 737 NGX.

Agreed. Nothing better out there than the NGX at the moment. Easily the best add-on for FSX.

The NGX is a masterpiece of flight simulatorism. But also so is the MD-11

PMDG is my only preference for add-on aircraft. They will release a 747 v2 later this year after they release the 777. I'm sentimentally a huge fan of Boeing, so my short, medium, and long haul needs will be taken care of by these three. Right now I'm using the 737NGX 90% of the time, and I stopped using the 747, until the new version is out. I also plan on putting a lot of hours on the 777 once it comes out, hopefully early this year.

The 737 is a fine plane, but I find myself flying the MD-11F more when I want to fly tubes. Guess I am a freight dog at heart. The 737 does what it is capable of very well. If you want to fly long haul, IMHO, the MD-11/F is the best there is, at least until 777 and 747v2. Don't let the MD-11's differences discourage you, yeah it's systems are different than Boeing, but it is rewarding when you master it, and you will find it is capable of more automation than the Boeings.

The 747 is still a fine plane, still the best 747 simulation available, but it is a bit dated graphically.

If you want a real challange, get A2A's B377 COTS package.

Yes the 737 NGX, a plane I dispise for spoiling me so badly I'm not wanting to fly any other tubeliner until the PMDG 777 although the FSL A320 might be a exception.

Hah, I wouldn't count on the 747 V2 release this year at all, even though it is the simplest aircraft of the trio (NGX, 777, 747) I just can't see it coming out the same year as the 777. I also don't expect to see the 777 until mid year at earliest (August release wouldn't suprise me).

As much as I do hope I am wrong however..

Flying the B747 on short-haul flights (< 500 NM) is very enjoyable and fun, as you get the prestige and privileges of flying one of the largest and most iconic commercial aircraft compacted into a short and engaging time frame. Asia and Europe are the best places for these types of flights, although the latter is modeled better in FSX.

You will enjoy how much pmdg 737Ngx has to offer. The plane behaves realistically and the interior and exterior quality is done beautifully.

Will have to learn how to the flight calculator.

Believe you mean the Flight Management Computer (FMC) Mark? The tutorial that comes with the aircraft is very good and provides a good understanding on the operation. You can also Google something like PMDG FMC and you'll probably get several YouTube videos on how to program this beast. It's rather simple once you learn it and it increases your enjoyment of the product and FSX.
