January 23, 201313 yr OMG!!! You've got to be kidding me. Not at all. I don't come here to waste my time, it's far to valuable to waste. I've yet to have an intelligent argument or discussion around here, other than with a few, they know who they are. There's a mutual respect that's conveyed without words. Unfortunately, it's dreadfully lacking with a few around here, you know who you are, I don't need to name names, the names never change. If you find this post confrontational, so be it, I really don't care. I have points to make, I made them in a rational and focused manner, if you or anyone else don't like them, I could care less. Their going to be said whether you like them or not, or find them confrontational or not. If some of you weren’t so defensive, perhaps YOU wouldn't be so confrontational, and read my statements / posts for their merit and validity. As far as that goes, your confrontational attitude extends far beyond just me, we all see it every day. Glen P.S. Thanks Geof for your words, but I can more than handle myself with the few around here, besides most here know what I say to be true, the difference is, I say it. I'm not here to kiss anyone’s ***, or make friends, I'm here to voice and opinion, and hopefully someday get what I paid for 13 months ago. Still don't get the picture, can I make it any clearer??? Geof is not the one that needs help reading between the lines, he's more than capable of doing that. I though his responses / words / observations were spot on. Do you even realize how condescending your statement to Geof looks / reads. He CAN read between lines. As far as being positive about Xplane, I've voiced my share of positive statements and continue to purchase developers addons. If I didn't think it warranted support or had a future I wouldn't bother. You people still have real issues with anyone that has even the slightest negative statement or opinion of Xplane, and it is really quite ridiculous and unwarranted. I want this simulator to succeed, but not at a snails pace, and certainly not in Austin’s vision. I'm seeing the end result(s) of his vision and there are certain aspects of it I really don't like. Am I alone, far from it. This sim desperately needs outside help, that's all I'm saying or have implied. Addons will make this sim, just as they made FSX, and there's only one entity getting in the way of that happening, we know what / who it is. The sooner the outside developing starts for Xplane, the better for all of us. January 23, 201313 yr Wow even better! Thanks for confirming. I guess I just need to get out of my usual VFR bush flying and above the cloud layer sometimes, recently picked up the JRollon J32 and CRJ200 so hopefully will be seeing a similar view more often. To be honest even thought the default cloud textures do look good, the ones on the pic are a HD freewares. I'm at the office so I can't provide a link to them as I don't remember the exact name, but can do that later on tonight. Edit: found them http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18213 intelligent argument Now that's a quite a statement!!! January 23, 201313 yr I'll say it again, XP is still in BETA state. Give it a chance and I'm sure eventually these flaws will be addressed. If you look at the history of X-Plane you'll see that it's been in BETA since X-Plane 1! Perpetual BETAS is Austin's chosen method of development! This is one of the reasons 3PD's have kept away! That there isn't a long enough time period between stable platforms to develop on. Once one Beta ends, the next one starts. So if you are waiting for XP10 to be out of Beta, you're going to have a long wait, By then XP11 will be in Beta!!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

Some around here don't understand that concept, although it has been explained enough times. It will continue to be the anchor holding Xplane back (with respect to addon development / excluding aircraft which there are some great ones), always has been, hope it isn't always that way. January 23, 201313 yr Glen, thanks for your posts. I was beginning to think that if I purchased XP I'd be totally alone, unable to participate in the community, and it looks like from various posts that community participation is essential. You would need to have more in depth knowledge of The Business concept to understand. If you were in Laminar's shows, I bet you probably do the same thing. If Laminar focused only in what WE all want we probably be still in XP v1 kiss anyone’s ***, WOW, Is that an intelligent argument? January 23, 201313 yr Author Speaking of cold weather, I just experienced my own anti-ice system this morning. I woke up with frost on my eyelashes, so I grabbed my bathrobe, turned the heat up to over 9000, stood over a floor vent and let my robe inflate as I was bathed in my own personal bubble of hot air bliss... Try it some time! (Thought the thread needed a bit of levity. ) "No matter how eloquent you are or how solidly and firm you've built your case, you will never win in an argument with an idiot, for he is too stupid to recognize his own defeat." ~Anonymous.

January 24, 201313 yr Author I don't understand that statement. Xplane has been steadily moving forward for years and at this point in time it appears to be gathering momentum. Jason, reread tf51d's post that Glen quoted. As much of a cheerleader of X-Plane as I am, I agree with the point about X-Plane's constant state of development being a hindrance to 3PD addon development. Addon X released today may be rendered useless on the next patch. If payware, that means the developer has to constantly rework it for free, since the market will not support paying for incremental updates. Right now, they sort of meet half-way with Laminar, only supporting whatever the current stable release is at the time (in this case, 10.11) but are constantly being hassled for compatibility patches for each new beta release. At some point, the aggrivation of it all has got to supercede the love of the hobby. January 24, 201313 yr Addon X released today may be rendered useless on the next patch. I'm far less worried about an addon being rendered technically useless with X-Plane's continuous development cycle because most developers are dedicated to the task and if an issue arises, they'll get to work fixing it as soon as practical. Laminar usually gives enough lead-time with their beta process so that addons would be made functional by the time the beta goes to a stable release. I'm much more concerned that developers of certain types of addons fear that their software will be rendered irrelevant by the continuous development of X-Plane... Why create seasonal textures if it's on the roadmap for XP10*? Why create weather addons if the weather engine is continuously being updated in XP10*? Why work on a 3rd party ATC addon if it's being improved by Laminar*? Why fix this or that shortcoming when you have no idea if it will be repaired in the next update for free by the publisher? * - fictional plans used as examples - I have no more knowledge of the roadmap than you do. I've come to agree with most X-Plane aficionados that development isn't held back by the technical concerns with the never ending updates... but I do think the uncertainty as to what Laminar Research's improvement list and schedule is plays a role.
