Is there a way of using Android tablet for default GPS?

Featured Replies

Air Navigation Pro has a FSX utility. I use it for real world navigation, but the sim utility is useless as it works only in WiFi environment. If you have WiFi, it should be nice.

"idisplay" guys :) with this app you can use your mobile device as additional screen for your pc. Works like a charm. Touch functions work too.

You can use iDisplay or AirDisplay to have the Android tablet as a second monitor (wireless) and drag an undocked FSX window over to that monitor.

That way you display anything that FSX can show in a window, on your Android tablet.

Here an example of a gauge six pack on the tablet..

Hi Bert....I have tried the idisplay app and it works fine for everything except FSX. Any object that I undock and move to the ipad just turns black. If I move the window back to main screen it stays blacked out until the undocked window is closed and reopened. Any ideas?? Everything has latest software ect.

How can I display my AivlaSoft EFB to my Android? I want to save haveing to switch desktops just to check my routing.

EFB works fine on a tablet. Just set up idisplay and start EFB and move the window to the tablet and you are good to go. Check their site also. I think I read that there was an app that was designed to run the software on Android??

I use it on an Android tablet, and there it works. Only downside to these "second monitor" configurations is that they only work when the main display is in windowed mode, not fullscreen..

I don't think you can do this with AivlaSoft, it's a Microsoft product. I have a separate Laptop that I use for this. You could buy a cheap laptop and install the display version of AivlaSoft (but I'm sure you've already pondered that idea). Others have mention other products but I have not thought about them for my Android..only because it's for real world navigation.

Keep us posted though.

Eh? That's news to me that AivlaSoft is a Microsoft product. I was always under the impression it was a German developer's product. Nevertheless, thanks for that laptop suggestion. Never thought of that option, but AivlaSoft have recommended an Android app, AirDisplay, as has been suggested elsewhere in this thread.

Just bought iDisplay and have the same exact issue. iPad2 here. Any undocked window I drag over is completely black. I remember have the exact same problem with MaxiVista demo.

Just threw $6 out the window.

I saw somebody mention this in another forum with a possible solution.

The steps were

1) Start FSX with iDisplay disconnected (off)

2) After FSX is running Connect iDisplay to the tablet, Undock what you need and move it to the tablet window.

3) The tablet window will be dark, But if you drag the left corner a bit onto the main monitor, it will appear on the tablet.

At least that was what was reported. Worth a shot. (Hope it works for you!)

I bought IDisplay for this purpose, it is hit and miss getting it to work but you do have to use it with FSX in windowed mode and I never got the clickspots for controlling the GPS to work properly. Also you need to use 2D panels which you detatch and move over to your android device, it's difficult to resize these and 2D panels are becoming rarer. I imagine it could be useful for overhead panels on heavies given the constraints but I'm more into GA so haven't tried that.

An android app that I've found which I do really like is Touch Pilot One, essentilly it acts as a virtual joystick with a decent layout including throttle, prop, mixture, trim (horizontal & vertical)and some other useful functionality for flying a single engined plane - http://touchpilot.net/

This touchpilot looks cool I would assume you can use fsx in full screen with this app ? what are you using it on ? thanks for this post guys.
