March 25, 201313 yr you can't choose the startup panel state like you can in the NGX. Look in the PMDG dropdown, it's there. Elijah HoytCFI, CFII, CMEL, CSEL, CSES, IFR
March 25, 201313 yr I'll echo what Neil said above. The only thing I might differ wrt some of the posts is about it being hard to fly. As long as you remember your flying something only slightly smaller than the 747, it really is quite nice handling. If you're used to the 737NG (don't know if you have that or not), then the main thing to remember on this plane is you have to flare a bit more than with the NG (which you really don't need to flare at all, or just barely as the BA is already in the landing attitude for most approaches anyway). It is heavy, so when you hit 35 feet or so, just bring the nose up another couple of degrees GENTLY and then flatten it out a bit if you find you are floating, and wait for it to settle. It takes 3 or 4 landings to get it down, but after that it's a pussy cat (albeit a BIG pussy cat <LOL>). So yeah, great airplane and very relevent still. Enjoy!
March 25, 201313 yr The question is not if it is still worth it, but if you want to learn something different. When you had already experience with the NGX everything feels familiar when you try out the Level D or the PMDG 747. But the MD11 is a little bit like the Leobardo Maddog making you feel you are trying out something new. I am constantly using it. Have fun with the MD11. Roland Schmalzl
March 25, 201313 yr and it has a lot of ambient sounds, like that magnicifent rumbling when you fire up the engines. How realistic that sound and level is I really don't know, but it always puts a smile on my face.. Oh thats very real. When I worked on the ramp, and pushed back DC10s (a previous variant) and the MD11 that rumbling up was exhilirating. So cool. You just feel the power and it wants to go inside you for some reason. So when I start the PMDG MD11 I crank up the sound on startup and the low low rumbling shakes the enviroment around me. Its the best engine sound startup in FSX bar none in my opinion. Just awesome. And PMDG if your reading this, you should be really proud of this aircraft even though you say the sales were off. This is one amazingly simulated bird. March 25, 201313 yr Look in the PMDG dropdown, it's there. What I meant was, you can't choose a default panel state to load whenever you begin a flight. For example if you want to start cold and dark you have to load the sim, wait for it to initialize, then load the cold and dark panel state. You can't just have it start up as cold and dark automatically every flight like you can in the NGX. It's not a big deal by any means, just would have been nice to have in the MD-11
March 25, 201313 yr For me it's still the best addon. I fly it all the time, there's something about it that keeps me flying her

March 26, 201313 yr Just thought I'd give my 2 cents, if you haven't already bought it after all these positive reviews! Here's another one. The PMDG MD-11 was the second Airliner addon I bought, after the LevelD 767. I've had it since 2010 and have not stopped flying it since, I got bored with the LEVELD 767 although it is very well done...but for some reason the MD-11 still captures my interest! It is great to hand fly and as someone else suggested, get the AoA flight training vids and you'll be set! Hand flying VORDME ARC and visual approaches in this bird are just so rewarding! Happy days
