looking for a 757

Featured Replies

Bought the QW 757 last night, and I am very pleased with it. It isnt the most complex plane in the FSX world but looks great and is a nice fit for me, as i prefer flying rather than a complete panel clickathon. I have always loved the 757. Back in my youth, i had a job as a security guard at the American Airlines overhaul base at Kansas City International. They did a lot of 757 work there and i got full roam of the facilities. Even more so when i made friends with some of the mechanics/machinists. These were all former TWA employees and it showed, with TWA signage still plastered all over the buildings and on their toolboxes. Some of them even still wore TWA coveralls. It was a fun place to work, as I could climb all over these 757's, inside and out and when I got done with that, jump in my patrol car and park it RIGHT next to the active runway and watch planes land.

Sometimes i wish i still had that job, even though the pay was terrible.

LNAV/VNAV logic is broken. TOD is bugged. Doesn't hold speed or alt constraints. Mach/speed change doesn't work. etc etc

I was frustrated with it too when I first got it, but after leaving in the hanger for a few months, I finally invested the time to learn it's peculiarities, which after having done so, it became a favorite.

The QW does not look as nice as captain sim; that and the QW having a simplified FMC are my only complaints with it.

me too

The FDE is just a default 737 FDE with more powerful engines.

This really depends on what version of FS one is using. None of this stuff is broken in the FS9 version. To add to this CS looks hands down better than QW in both versions of FS, QW is not even in the same ball park when it comes to the visuals in the VC. The QW model's VC is a slight step above PSS/Flight1's offering which is freeware quality these days (QW even admitted they can do so much better these days)... Looks like CS is having serious quality problems on the FSX side of things though. I must admit through all my years of dealing with them the CS757 and the CS C130 is the only birds they've nailed down perfectly. I can't speak for their fighter jets. When they get things bad it's bad which was the case with their FS9 727 and 707. I'm glade I have the CS 757 running in FS9 where it's outstanding. From the sounds of it they really blew it with FSX version...

+1 QW

I had both but didn't bother reinstalling the Captain Sim version - too many bugs and the handling was unrealistic (within the confines of FSX etc etc).

I don't mind the reduced systems on the QW model - I don't have the time or inclination to sit there for hours programming stuff in. I just want to fly :)

By the way if you choose to get CS 757 make sure that you change your default flight to default Cessna with fuel selector set to ALL.

If you use CS 757 or most other CS birds for that matter with default Ultralight set as the default plane your engines might quit after some hours of flying, it has something to do with Ultra not having fuel selector or something...

Actually that issue was the initial reason why i got QW 757 as back then nobody seemed to be able to give me proper answer, though it was a good decision anyway as QW is totally superior to CS in terms of flight dynamics, cockpit look, sounds etc.

Don't know about you but personally if I look at these random pics I can definitely tell which one has more realistic looking cockpit for me at least, and it isn't CS:

This is the age old case where you have to see the add-on in the sim to know what your talking about. QW's 757 looks a step above freeware in the VC compared to Captain Sim's work, there's no comparison...

Looking directly at the main panel gives the illusion it looks better but looking around the VC in the sim you can see where it starts to look like PSS's old 757. Both 757's have their faults but Posky's freeware 777 VC actually looks better than QW's VC. Adding to that the same guy did the two VC's, he just did a worse job with the 757.

Meh, I've used all CS, QW and even Posky 757 a long time ago and still find QW by far the best in the sim too, not just in pictures.

I'm not into some little detail though, the big picture is what matters to me the most. Anything around Level D 767 VC quality or better is fine to me, I get most of the atmosphere through proper soundset & flight dynamics.

Take the avionics away from the CS 757, the visuals beat any other option out there including the Level-D 767...

I'll go for QW 757 package. Awesome framerates even on my PC, cfg file to customise perfomance and systems.

Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.

Some would say the the CS one is good (and it's no doubt very pretty), while others would say it should be expunged from FSX forever because it is so bad. Some would say the QW one is the best one going, while others would say it's a frame hog. I have neither, but would lean towards QW. Don't get the Just Flight one - it's not worth it, even though it's free.

You don't even own either plane, so don't talk son.

Don't get the Just Flight one even though it's free? That's the whole reason of getting it... because it is free.

FSX: PMDG 744/MD11/JS41/736/737/738/739, CS752/753/763/C130, SimCheck A300, Leonardo MD82, MJC DH8D, Aerosoft CRJ7/CRJ9/A318/A319/A320/A321, RAZBAM Metroliner, ORBX Global, FlyTampa KBUF/OMDB/TNCM/VHHX, ActiveSky Next

DCS: A-10C II/F-16C/AH-64D/F-15E/KA-50 III/Mi-24/Persian Gulf/Syria/F-15C

MSFS: Fenix A320, FS2Crew Fenix A320, FS2Crew Pushback Express, PMDG B77W, ActiveSky FS, Drzewiecki Design UUEE

Level D is still developing the 757,,,

Don't ask me how but I know that they are.

However, as they have started years ago I am afraid that the visual quality is not up to date with PMDG and CS.
