April 19, 201313 yr Commercial Member Whilst hating to sound like captain obvious I have to agree 100% Rudder steering is always available - it steers in -8°..+8° range and progressively decreases with speed, (AFAIK about 40kts). Tiller steering turns the wheel in -70°..+70° range and also progressively decreases. So there are two ways of steering. Assign tiller steering to rudder and you will lose one.
