Charlotte Douglas KCLT

Featured Replies

Hi all,

As some of you may know Imagine Sim has just released KCLT Charlotte Douglas for FS9 and, as my credit card has had a chance to cool down recently, I decided to go for it. First impressions are that it is a very good scenery addon although not quite up to the excellent standards of Fly Tampa or the other handful of other developers who are setting the gold standard for FS9 now. Nevertheless it is clear that Imagine Sim are upping their game and the resultant product is a very nice addition to FS9.

The airport buildings are all well modelled and as are buildings on the various UPS, FedEx, GA, NC ANG, etc  aprons. There is plenty of vehicular and other ramp equipment autogen provided although it should be pointed out that this all appears to be static, unlike the autogen provided by a lot of other developers these days. The well modelled multistorey car garages beside the terminal and the car parks around the perimeter all contain an abundance of 3D parked cars and the whole ground area within and just outside the airport perimeter is covered with quite good photoreal ground textures which blend in well with the associated autogen particularly when overflying the airport from 500 feet or higher. In addition there is a reasonable amount of autogen buildings and vegetation provided around the immediate perimeter of the airport which always adds to the sense of realism achieved and which I like to see developers including.

Overall I am glad that I bought this scenery as it is of good quality and fills a gap in my major US airports. I would have to say however that I feel the purchase price is a little on the high side particularly when you consider that you only get the FS9 version and if you want the FSX version when it is released you will have to fork out more (compare this with the latest release from Fly Tampa - CYUL - which, for a similar price, includes versions for FS9, FSX amd P3D!). Still it is good to see that Imagine Sim remain happy to produce for FS9, suggesting that they feel that there is a market out there and this in itself seems to contradict the argument put forward by other developers that the FS9 market is not viable! It seems that this dinosaur is not yet extinct!

I'm waiting for the FSX version, but ImagineSim needs to catch up to developers like FSDT and FlyTampa in terms of better FPS.

Did they include the third parallel runway?

I will be getting this one! My cousin moved to Charlotte 9 years ago and we fly to KCLT ALOT to go visit them. We fly from KISP or KJFK on JetBlue or Southwest Airlines.

And it's good to see Imaginesim still supporting FS9!

I wish they would redo KEWR, that's the most need update for a whole host of reasons...

Yes I completely agree! Even if they could bring it up to the standard of KCLT, that would be quite an advance over their existing legacy product, which frankly puts me off doing flights into KEWR! I thought I had read somewhere that they were planning to upgrade some of their older products but when I checked their website I couldn't find any reference to this so we can only wait and see.

Hi Folks,

Great news... Did they fix the flatten issue some of us had - I'm assuming they did since it's a new product - but - the old one had an elevation issue where you needed to create a "flatten" to keep the landing gear from passing through the runways and taxiways at certain points... Any real issues noted ? I like flying into KCLT and I spend most of my time in tube liners flying USAir... KPHL to KCLT is one of my favorite routes... Let me go look at some pix... Thanks for the heads up...

Scott

With ImagineSim you will have to buy it all over again as if you never owned it.

Yes it is a bit of a shame that they don't provide a free upgrade or at least a reduced price for existing customers of the product, as some developers do, but even so, if they were to provide a new KEWR up to at least the standard of this KCLT, then I for one would buy it.

Has anyone had a problem with downloading this? Tried to download from the flight 1 link, and it was going to take a full hour. Same result when I tried to download the demo. Also got an error about an improper redirect during one of my many attempts.

I just bought the scenery and I like it a lot. Looks real goo and it performs real good. Even the AFCAD it came with is pretty good. The only things I see that need to be fixed is a few biz jets are parked between two buildings and 1 or 2 missing parking codes.

I thought Imaginesim already had KCLT.  I just bought it for FSX.  Is this an upgrade?

This is a completely new version 2 for FS2004. The FSX version 2 will not be released for about a month I think - check the ImagineSim website.

Yeah that's their old version which is their legacy version. They already warned everyone that there will be a newer version coming soon.

The newer version which just released is a completely new one and had to buy seperate from the old one.
