April 22, 201313 yr Can somebody or Majestic create a Tutorial that makes sense? I have just followed the sample flight as an example trying to create my own Flight Plan, inserted all the waypoints, SID,STAR, t/o Rwy, Arrival Rwy, etc, etc, taxi and take -off and retract flaps as per tutorial. Select AP, then select the NAV to initiate LNAV----nothing happens; same selecting VNAV----nothing; inserting all the waypoints in the FPL all I see is a straight magenta line from/to; selecting ALT SEL also does nothing, i.e. no climb. What am I doing wrong? So anyone who has managed all those flights kindly care to give me some pointers where this is rapidly becoming for me at least, frustrating to fly? It'd be appreciated. Change your Nav Source from VOR to FMS... Theres a knob for it right no the AP Panel. And VNAV (to my limited knowledge) is only used after reaching cruise for the descent. Paul Smith
April 22, 201313 yr And VNAV (to my limited knowledge) is only used after reaching cruise for the descent. Thank you for that explanation. But then how do I get it to climb to cruise level as selecting ALT SEL did nothing? It stayed stuck at around 3400ft? Rick Almeida
April 22, 201313 yr Thank you for that explanation. But then how do I get it to climb to cruise level as selecting ALT SEL did nothing? It stayed stuck at around 3400ft? Try selecting altitude first then select ALT SEL. Dave Skuback - KBLM'Cause down the shore everything's all right
April 22, 201313 yr Try selecting altitude first then select ALT SEL. Thanks for that, Dave, but I reckon, I just about lost patience with this. I'm sending it back. Even following that YT tutorial Matt Wilson created, I could not get it to follow the FPL instead all I had was just a straight magenta line between my DEP/ARR. And to add to the aggravation----which I do not need when there are other aircraft in my hangar that can give me hours of enjoyment-----where before I was able to turn the tiller with the spoliers switch down, now I get no steering, nor can I get any push-backs. I have had enough. I don't need frustration. Rick Almeida

I have had enough. I don't need frustration. So you're going to get a refund? All because you can't take a few hours to learn the airplane? The reason you see a straight magenta line is because you need to go to DTD and enter 1 then enter, so the flight plan goes direct to the 1st waypoint in the plan you created. You didn't actually follow his youtube video at all because that was an important point at the end. Learn some patience, nobody sits in an airplane and suddenly learns all systems like magic.
April 23, 201313 yr Learn some patience, nobody sits in an airplane and suddenly learns all systems like magic. I have been more than patient with this! Whoever developed this or put it out just to corner a market that is patiently waiting for a certain T7, should also have put out a Tutorial that made sense. I was able to follow the LDS763, the MD-11, and the NGX Tutorials without a hitch. If I am paying £40 for a product I expect something to cover every level of a simmer rather than something that was hurriedly put together just to get it out, which I have meticulously tried to follow line by line. April 23, 201313 yr I'm sure it's a great video, if only the guy had explained things a little faster!!! There are plenty of tutorials online showing how to properly manage the airplane. Read all the documentation, watch all the youtube videos available, and you will slowly learn how to operate it. I don't demand perfect tutorials from the developers. I didn't learn how to fly the PMDG NGX by tutorials written by PMDG, I learned by watching youtube videos and reading tutorials written by regular users.
April 23, 201313 yr The aircraft is in many ways totally different from the Boeing and Airbus concepts. If you keep an open mind, read the manuals, watch the films and persevere, you will quickly grasp the handling of this aircraft. You just have to be one step ahead of the plane at all times. Handflying her around the block to a visual landing is fun! Training how to touchdown at the right speed and flaps setting is a bit of an art for me at the moment... then again I had a bad teacher... All the Q400 flights I have ever experienced in the real world have been HARD landings... windshear on final, gusty conditions and so on... A Andrew Entwistle
April 23, 201313 yr This German video helped me very much, I do not speak German but just looking at the steps he used, I now know how to properly fly. Still am stumped with VNAV, something about my altitude in the FMS staying at one of the earlier SID altitudes so it doesn't calculate right. Here is the video, part 1 and part 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtKSEt4M6gA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNIlNmPSfJw
April 23, 201313 yr I don't know if how I'm using VNAV is at all correct, but I got it to calculate TOD and get to descent when it reaches TOD automatically (albeit sometimes it was bout 500 meters too high when reaching a waypoint that would be for example 11000 ft or below) What did it for me was to press the TO button to highlight it (doesn't matter what WP there is...), select the WP that would have an altitude restriction / you want to cross at altitude you want, then press enter, twice (don't know what to put for the displacement or what that does..) then the cursor is at the altitude marker, and insert desired altitude e.g 11000 ft and press enter twice (2nd would be to edit the V/S i guess but i've just gone with the 1800ft/min. Now looking at manuals i see that it is explained in the FMS quick reference card.pdf VNAV| cursor to TO| select WPT number from the list| ENTER| enter displacement if required| ENTER| enter the crossing altitude in feet (if not yet present)| ENTER| enter the desired Vertical Speed| ENTER to activate 2 minutes prior to reaching the TOD, arm the VNAV on the AFCS panel, please note LNAV must be active for VNAV to engage and the altitude selector must be set lower than the current altitude And when approaching TOD like the quote says i reduce my ALT selection, arm VNAV (you have to be less than 2 minutes from TOD to arm it) and it will automatically descend when crossing TOD.
April 23, 201313 yr The simple mistake I made at TOD was not having reset the altitude bug to a lower setting than the cruise alt I had. Reset the ALT to your new setting of say 11000 or 5000 or whatever, arm VNAV when, as said, less than 2 minutes away from TOD and down you go at the preselected descent rate... This is different, not better not worse, just different... And I like getting to fly a plane I have sat in as well... A Andrew Entwistle
