Q400 Simple Flight tutorial is not very good!

Featured Replies

The step by step process for the FMC is hard to follow with missing info that jumps steps. I can't get the J586 airway inserted and I dont even have the FrankX6 star!

There was some nav database issues.. mainly they wrote the tutorial and then the STAR changed...  just go to skyvector.com right click the airport you're landing at, and see if the charts popup.  Then you can pick the STAR from there.

you're right. The Navigraph database changed after the tutorial was completed. The reason why we didn't change the tutorial is that there is Another tutorial flight coming (written by Brendan Ratchford) which is far more complete and accurate. This new tutorial is in our hands but we are still too busy with the release and activation issues, we will review and issue the new tutorial few days later.

Will it cover vnav a bit better too? I'm currently guessing what my optimal cruise altitude will be, and I do need to know the cruise level beforehand if I'm to file Vatsim and IVAO plans.

Perhaps tutorial video would be effective for us tubeliners. lol

The aircraft is quite more involved than say NGX. I can get it in the air, and on my way, but proper procedure is probably questionable.  Lots of reading to do I guess.

Just copying and pasting my comment on the tutorial flight, which got lost in the release thread:

Solution: Since the FRANX6 arrival at Montreal no longer exists, you'll need to go REEDO and use the HABBS2 arrival, MIGLO transition. Chop off MIGLO and the STAR will start at REEDO. Start thinking of descending at REEDO as you'll need to be below at least 16000ft by HABBS for RWY 28/24L/R, or below 9000ft for RWY 10/06L/R.

For altitude just pick a turboprop friendly one, range of teens to FL300 ish....

I noted from the video that although you turned FMS #2, you never did finish initialization. I'm curious to know if FMS #2 is fully functional.

It is, and you can also transfer your flight plan from FMS 1 to FMS 2.

Thanks. That's good to know. How about the color display? The UNS-1F normally has a four color display on the NAV page.

Yes, the Majestic Q400 NAV page looks very similar to that reference you linked.

On the other hand, I can get j586 but cannot 3 options to select FrankX6. Does not even exist. This aircraft maybe a wonderful prop aircraft, but the minute I throttle down, it goes into reverse. If I push forward, it seems it reaches a point forwards when it just lurches forward instead of a smooth transition to taxi. Correcting this by throttling back only results in going to reverse. Don't quite know how much patience I will have before I call it a day and send it back!

Looking forward to that. Must be something out there that is a bit more easier to follow.

So it's pretty much the same as this one that's been in the CJ1+ for several years?
