July 2, 201312 yr Author Hi Sid: Thanks for posting your info. Just an fyi for the next time: if you use the "More Reply Options" at the bottom-right corner of your reply, you will see that it enables you to add a txt file as an attachment, so that it doesn't take up two pages of scrolling a web page that can't be edited-ok! So - aside from a few changes to the fsx.cfg, most of your issues can be solved by simply bumping up the speed of your processor. You have a beautiful 2600K there, and it's hardly working!! There are folks reading this that would die for this proc! Now - how you proceed is in some degree dependent upon your cooling system, Sid: the standard stock fan being adequate to allow up to 4.5 - maybe even 4.6. A good air system will allow 4.8 GHZ, and a Corsair closed water system (for e'g') H80i or H100i (if you have room for the dual rad) will permit higher. You should not feel afraid to do this - the 2600 overclocks very easily and reliably, without suddenly shooting up to high temps. Here are three pdf's with settings that you can use, based upon the ASUS Guide. Also note that 95% of all overclockers disable the processor's hyper-threading function. The fsx.cfg is mostly ok, I've changed a few things, and left some notes. sidh_fsx_Chgd.txt Thanks very much I am trying your settings, Sincere thanks for the efforts
July 2, 201312 yr And the analogy to overloading the pickup bed is true. Not really. The fundamental issue with FSX is that it was not properly coded to leverage the GPU and the code was abandoned as unfinished by M$. In short, FSX is fundamentally broken. Your analogy, while entertaining, would also have to mean that GM didnt build the truck properly and sold it uncompleted.
July 2, 201312 yr Here is the cfg and I added hardware specs too. Thanks for help Add the BP=0 tweak (delete the reject settings stuff you have) and turn off airplane self shadowing (I noticed it's on). You can turn on regular shadowing that shows on the ground. Lower FFTF to .10 from .15. Your computer can handle it. Lock your frames internally at 30. That's about it. There's nothing else I notice in there that's out of place or bloat. Make sure your water settings are on 2.0low (some claim you must run it on high for the BP=0 tweak, I've personally seen no ill effects and prefer the extra smoothness). Which p3d license I should go for? I can spend 50$ license.. Is it monthly bases? After 1 month i have to pay 50$ again? Also How about addons compatibility ? Thanks Don't bother right now. Wait for V2. Those who have V1 will be paying again so don't waste money on the current version.
July 2, 201312 yr Add the BP=0 tweak and turn off airplane self shadowing (I noticed it's on).He already have BP=0 but he should remove reject thresholdLower FFTF to .10 from .15.Having to low FFTF could cause blurriesLock your frames internally at 30. See what that does. He already have locked it at 30There's nothing else I notice in there that's out of place or bloat. I see some but Paul J already gave him good advice in the edited .cfg file so lets see how that goes. I don't agree with all he's changes but worth a try...

A 2600k over 4.2ghz can handle .10 most likely. The difference in FPS between a setting of .10 and .15 is substancial enough to matter. If he gets blurries, then he can simply go back to .15. No harm done. Certainly worth a try. I use .10 and have no blurry problems, even over Orbx terrain (which seems to be much more prone to blurriness). If I can fly an approach in the NGX without getting blurries, then that's good enough for me. I could care less if I can fly the F-18 at 800 knots at 500AGL.
July 2, 201312 yr Here is the cfg and I added hardware specs too. Thanks for help There is no need to switch to P3D, only if you don't wish/don't know how to tweak FSX. I tried it, my fsx runs and looks better. You can only run into new problems with addon compatibility and EULA. I found too many issues in your fsx.cfg. I tried to fix them. - Check your screen resolution, your monitor runs on 1366x768x32 resolution? This is what you have set in FSX. - Then, do you have hyperthreading on? Becouse you have weird affinity mask. If HT is off, this Affinity mask should be 14, with on = 84. Yours was 80 - BufferPools section, never use BufferPools=0 and rejectthreshold togheter - SmallPartRejectRadius is a bad tweak, bojote shaders also. I didn't have time to check whole fsx.cfg, this is what i found on the first look. Try this modified FSX.CFG i atached. Just backup your fsx.cfg first. If you have hyperthreading on, open my fsx.cfg and change affinity mask from 14 to 84. Check your monitor resolution and set it in fsx if that is different then 1366x768x32. Using Nvidia inspector, set FSX profile like this: http://imageshack.us/a/img163/7515/capturelfo.png Maybe you need to enable joystick or to set your controls again, this is set like mine for use with fsuipc. Tell me how is your performance after this Zeljko Budovic
July 2, 201312 yr Didn't notice that smallpart was in there. Definantly take that out. It's an old outdated tweak, doesn't help performance and causes major autogen pop up.Agreed about turning HT off and setting AF to 14. HT doesn't benefit FSX and you probably aren't running any other applications that need it. It causes your CPU to run hotter and with you trying to overclock more every degree counts. At worst you need to set it at 84 for 8 cores if you have it on. Paul probably gave you the best advice. Buy a $20-30 aftermarket cooling fan (you don't need the biggest and baddest, just a good proven cooler) and get that CPU up around 4.8ghz. Should have no problems getting there.

But see trough the changed .cfg hat Paul J posted and you find out that he have given pretty good advices(alltough I see some I don't agree with)
July 2, 201312 yr Because FS9 doesn't have the NGX, REXE, or Orbx scenery he wants to use? Because FS9 doesn't produce the visual quality he's seeking? If he simply set up FSX to look like FS9 looks, lowering all the settings a ton, he'd have no issues with performance. But he wants more then FS9 can begin to offer and he wants the incredible detail you get in Orbx regions in FSX. That's the entire point. Well I guess he'll have to use his imagination like one poster is doing and make believe his sim is running faster. July 2, 201312 yr Looked over it again. Reset LOD to 4.5. Don't try to up it until you have everything else running smoothly. That's a luxury tweak. Also, uninstall the Shader 3.0 hack. It's meaningless for Nvidia cards so no reason to even risk conflict. It makes the water look like crap anyway.

Did I say It will cause blurries,,,,no I said it could and that something the OP should be aware of that's why I mentioned it. Offcourse he could try and experiment with it, I also did that when I first jumped into tweaking. I settled on 0.25, and you have settled on 0.10 as long as it works it doesn't matter...
July 2, 201312 yr Well I guess he'll have to use his imagination like one poster is doing and make believe his sim is running faster. Go troll somewhere else. FS9 is simply not a valid solution for this guy. Not even close. If he's wanting to run the NGX in Orbx regions then the ugly, blurry ground textures of FS9 aren't going to satisfy him. I'm glad you like it though. Others can't make that compromise.
July 2, 201312 yr FS9 is NOT the answer. Yes it is if your can't get FSX to run and low on funds. Sitting there looking at a slide show, using your imagination that what your seeing is actually great, and fooling yourself that this is the best that it can get is not the answer. One can always go into debt more marginal results and no cure from tweaking. Hey, a fool and his money is easily parted. Go troll somewhere else. FS9 is simply not a valid solution for this guy. Not even close. Then what is the answer? Donate and help this guy get a better computer since FSX is the only answer. It's great your trying to help him but tweaks aren't always the answer sometimes it's just new hardware one needs. If their on a budget you have to use what you can afford. I for one am not saying FS9 is the best option here but sitting there running a glorified slide show isn't either. Just because you can't make FSX shine doesn't mean others can't(are you jealous?) The OP has a good system he just need it balanced and tweaked and it will run great. And for me and many others, tweaking was a miracle cure when I realised how to do it right. Most of these tweaks is even dokumented by the ACES team...
