July 11, 201312 yr Loving all of the IAD mentions! I just got the FlightBeam scenery of it last week and, as someone who's worked there for the better part of the last decade, the scenery is spot on (and includes GSX for IAD, even if you don't have a full version of GSX). If anyone wants any arrival assistance (IAD is fully-vectored between the STAR and approaches) or tips and tricks, let me know. I might write a tutorial for general self-vectoring, and use IAD as an example. I just purchased that scenery.. Defenitly one of my favorites after egll and kjfk! Next up is KSFO from the Flightbeam.Definitely doing a 777 United flight from there. Kacper Nowotynski
July 11, 201312 yr SFO to Vulcan, Andoria, and Risa... "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley

July 11, 201312 yr KLAX to KSFO, need to be more familiar with the system before doing any long hauls. Danny F
July 11, 201312 yr Hello all, I will probably do a long haul first. On the contrary of some here, I think a long haul flight gives you the ability to go through the main systems while cruising. There is too much to do in a short haul flight to focus on non-essential or non-immediate stuff. Therefore, after the necessary and always perfectly made tutorial (thanks PMDG!!), I will fly the Emirates version on some RJAA, WSSS or VHHH mission... Cheers Alex Alexandre Giordan
July 11, 201312 yr Commercial Member So used to IATA codes that I don't recognize most of these overseas ICAO codes lol I remember working with (note, not for) an airline who used IATA codes for the airports they flew to - no idea why - and would use them in the main carrier's systems, where everyone else used ICAO/FAA. I'd worked for/with a few airlines by that time, and together with my sim "travels," I'd come to a decent understanding of airport codes around the world. When I then started talking to the dispatchers/pilot for this airline, I was pretty confused for a few days, until I figured out that they were using IATA. State College - University Park Airport ICAO - KUNV FAA - UNV IATA - SCE Manassas Regional Airport - Harry P Davis Field ICAO - KHEF FAA - HEF IATA - MNZ There were a couple "hey - we're taking this down to MNZ for maintenance*, so we'll need a push." ...followed by my own internal dialogues of "yeah, MNZ...which is probably the code for The Land of Oz, which is why your planes are always broken..." until I figured out that MNZ was HEF. *This probably gives the airline away, but they're doneso anyway, so whatever. Bag tags were all IATA so we never bothered with ICAO and I think that only pilots used the ICAO'S. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
July 12, 201312 yr To airports with the shortest damn runways I can find. It's fun to fit big, heavy jets into runways that can barely take them. I get bored flying onto 11,000 foot runways with no terrain surrounding them. But a 777 into Santos Dumont sounds fun, Or Jackson Hole or Ketchikan.

That was is always good time, not the shortest runway but the approach is awesome. Kacper Nowotynski
