August 25, 201312 yr Commercial Member FSX is old, that's it. It may work but it doesn't perform when it needs to without issues being bound to the coding. We know P3d is actively developing and we all need to start to think "positive change" because we all will accept being given more from the sim at less of an overhead on the hardware side. This is also true for other potential flight sim platforms out there. Besides, everything is evolving and I don't expect for one second that progression will cease because of people wanting to remain in the past even though they have spent $$$$ on addons/plugins etc... Mind you, for those who are happy to remain with legacy software/code that works for them, fine, it's their porogative. For those who want to take the fast train to new and cutting edge in this genre then great, look forward to seeing you on the fire ground. I can really only speak for myself at the end of the day and am extremely excited about how this genre might develop further in the future. Cheers, Kelvin.

Kelvin. I liken it to the VHS to DVD to Bluray. I've bought loads of DVDs to upgrade from VHS and I've now upgraded some of my favourite DVDs to Bluray. My VHS tapes were worthless and would look crap on today's TVs so were binned a long time ago. Irrespective of how much has been spent I will happily repurchase any addons for P3D if required
August 25, 201312 yr I am eagerly awaiting the DX upgrade as I believe it will be a sim changing event. It is quite a hurdle I understand for the programmers. Bob Officially retired
August 26, 201312 yr A lot is riding on this release. I'm not sure why that would be true, other than it is version 2 of the app. It is most likely that V2.0 won't be 64 bit and the EULA is not likely to change either. These are two big considerations with P3D. DX11 will be a nice upgrade, with its Shader Model 5. From all the rumors that I've gleaned from reading about P3D 2.0, most of the improvements will be made to the UI, probably giving the new version the look and feel of the XP10 UI. The other area where there may be improvements is that more of the "work" will be shifted from the CPU to the GPU.
August 26, 201312 yr Ive read and understood that the improvements are about removing (or attempting) all the bottlenecks that exist. There are alot. DX11 will be a plus. Memory managment is another area being worked on, from the memory leaking/poor codeing of FSX. Putting this all together makes some substantial improvements. Since so many addons now have a p3d installer, and theyve mentioned that they hope to keep a good majority backwards compatible, perhaps with a small update from the developer, it looks to be bright. 64 bit is a no go unless they are doing some secret shocker surprise to us but then all the addons would not be compatible. EULA is a whole other discussion best left in all the other threads. Just hope that everyone gets on board and all parties play nice. August 26, 201312 yr Will 2.0 be free for current users? I wouldn't even begin to think so. Consider the amount of time involved in the coding! My thoughts are in the 100's of dollars range even for previous owners and various licenses..
August 26, 201312 yr Commercial Member No there will be a cost, granted we do not know if the prices will remain the same as the 1.x or if they will increase. Either way, with what they are working on to improve I feel it will be worth it. I would not hesitate if they were to bring out v2 at say $79.99 or $99.99. (Oooops, guess I shouldn't have said that). V2 would have to be a really noticeable difference for me to pay that. I would most definitely pay the plus hundred dollar mark for FSXI.
August 26, 201312 yr I would venture to say it will be less than the original license fee. How much less is the question. Bob Officially retired
August 26, 201312 yr Will 2.0 be free for current users? LM has said nothing about this, but usually a major version upgrade of an app does cost something. The question is whether an upgrade from 1.4 will be less expensive than buying P3d 2.0 as a new acquisition. I'd be surprised if there was a cheaper upgrade path for either the developer license (which is a monthly fee anyway) or the educational license.
August 27, 201312 yr Author LM must have already spent in the multi million dollar range on this project. They are certainly not going to distribute Ver 2.0 plus at a loss. I suggest there may be more than one version again, with the full "Pro/Commercial" version in the thousand of dollar plus range. Versions without "full" capabilities are likely to be their largest, by quantity, seller but even so they may well be in the MS Office/Windows price range. Fair enough ... both will have been written by a highly skilled team of professionals with every right to be well rewarded. Cheers, Mac
August 27, 201312 yr Any word on v2.0 being 64bits? I'm not a P3D user at this time, but a 64bit version would certainly make me consider it strongly. Regards, Frank van der Werff
