Orbx FTX Global Not DX10 compatible

Featured Replies

Thx for trying guys - guess we'll have to put our money on ORBX to fix this... I wonder if anyone will ever succeed in fixing the problem with transparent textures... Came across another problem yesterday, when I grabbed Andrew Thomsens newest Airport Of Norway package. I found black squares (by appearence identical to the ones we see in FTX Global) in some of the nearby villages of ENBS...

It sure would be great to have a general fix for these issues, in stead of always being sort of behind with dx10, as there are always issues with new releases, which hero guys like you, Steve and others must then post-fix.....

Ah well, we'll see!

Yikes, this wasn't what I was hoping for:

Hello all, a quick update.

The issue is FSX itself, and the way the DX10 renderer is dealing with vegetation class autogen. It appears that the alpha blending is just not being called under any circumstances, regardless of which DXT algorithm is being used for the alpha mask.

The only alpha channel that DX10 allows for vegetation autogen is DXT1 format. This is the only way to make our lights work but I can assure you that it looks butt ugly.

We even took the default road traffic car models (whose lights work correctly in DX10) and assigned them the same GUID as our 3D light. The result was the same black rectangle around the headlights. The conclusion; this problem is not the models or textures, but DX10 restrictions for the group Vegetation Autogen group.

We are continuing to work the problem and of course if anyone in the FS community who has experience in solving thes sorts of DX10 mysteries wants to help us out we are more than willing to listen, just email us at [email protected] with the title "DX10 lights FTXG".

That is indeed bad news!

Very sad news becasuse I really wanted to get this but I run DX10 only so I'll have to hold off until the fix is available. Slightly dissapointed right now as I was really looking forward to getting FTXG.

It is disappointing, and I hope they find a proper fix.

But I am a DX10 user and decided to go for FTX Global today, and I have to say, with the temporary fix that is linked above, you will see no issues whatsoever in the daytime in FTX Global.

I know that's not perfect, and that some people will require the full night lighting, but as I said, even with just this temporary fix (which disables the BGL file that is causing the problem) FTX Global looks FANTASTIC in DX10 ....... just make it VFR:    daylight only!

I'm even more disappointed since I bought it already with the assumption that it was DX10 compatible.  I do usually fly during the day but like to have the option of night, dusk or dawn flying as well.

Yea, at first i held off buying it too, till the fix was coming, but I couldn't resist. Had every faith they were going to fix it fast. And now this unfortunate news lol.

But like you say, it's great during daytime when you rename the file.

Edit: Nice pics btw.

I am waiting for the fixes as well, as a DX10 user.  I am still flying FTXG though, with the 3D lights disabled.  I mean GEX didn't have 3d lighting, and my UTX lights still work great.  the combo looks pretty good to be honest.  so far the only thing that doesn't work is something I didn't have before anyway (the 3d lights)  once its fixed, it'll be great, but in the meantime you may be missing out, if you're holding back just for this.

+1

That's exactly how I see it too.     Where I am is still better than where I was (with no FTXG), and when the FTXG DX10 Lighting fix does come, it'll be like Christmas all over again!

Really a sad news. At leat JV said how their light system work, as an autogen.

I activated UTX night lighting again, no fps hit on my system in dx10. :P

Waiting dor the fix, but during that wait I didn't let the dark to take over a FSX world. :)

Damn.. All hope is on Steve. It might actually be unfixable:

Hi Jan,

Let me assure you we know what Steve's mods do, but this issue is a little more complex than just some shader mods and texture transparency issues. Please scroll up to read my update and explanation of what is broken in the core DX10 code inside the FSX engine.

Of course, if someone in the FS community has a fix then we are all ears, but this looks like being a showstopper for DX10 and our lights.

I have given Steve a copy of FTXG and shared our findings with him.

OUCH! That is a real disappointment (I've been waiting on the fix before I spring for global) and a blow to the DX10 community as FTXG looks like it'll become a fundamental add-on. Reading between the lines, Steve's fixes probably won't address this issue. Boo!

So happy to be using DX9! ^_^ But seriously, since a lot of people won't buy FTXG just because of the lights not working: 1. how often do you all actually fly at night and 2. you can use UTX lights or other addon lights... After all the night lighting is an added bonus!

The very funny thing is that Orbx only decided to add that new light system a day or so before creating the final release candidate... Imagine they hadn't done that and FTXG wouldn't have had this system at all... I really honestly thing that most if not all of you who are not buying it now because of this, would have bought FTXG... seriously! Tell me I am wrong! Would you have bought FTXG if you hadn't known about the night lighting system and if it hadn't been included at all?
