172, Realair or A2A?

Featured Replies

I will say A2A, I know Scott as he frequents our teamspeak server with his son all the time and I have spoken with him in regards to his 172 if he needs help testing as I currently operate one in flight school. He declined with this statement... "Normally I would, however some very nice people have allowed the A2A team unlimited access to a privately owned Cessna 172, and all I have to do is pay for fuel to fly her". He also stated that he has been fully capable of bringing on board instruments that carry back essential data in the creation of the flight dynamics and the overall feel of the aircraft. Scott is a perfectionist and he hates making patches for his products as he believes his products should be released with no bugs at all. He personally told my group that his accu-sim 172 will be the most accurate aircraft ever released not only for A2A but for Flight Simulator. I might be biased but I am sold on the A2A 172.

Wow!! Really hope he gets the Flight Dynamics right! Gonna be so much fun flying it.

It's almost more brave to release a C172 than something like a Lancair Legacy or P-51. Everyone will have an opinion about how it doesn't behave exactly like the C172 at their flight school...

I've flown 4 172s and all 4 had different behavior.

But they're still close enough to realize they're 172's. You'll never mistake one for a Lancair, RV, Marchetti SF260, etc.

For me the choice is easy A2A without a doubt. Have all the Real Airs and their are great, but after I got the A2A p51 civ no other GA plane has made me "feel" like flying as this plane. I might get the Real Air if it's a different model though....

for me realair I will buy, their products are great

The A2A for sure! The Realair I will approach cautiously. Realair is a top notch company obviously, and I own and love Realairs Turbine Duke, B60, and Scout. I also own the Legacy, but on my system, and I know its just me and my poorly configured hardware, (Rob said I was the only one who ever reported it out of thousands sold) I get this cone of light shooting out from the Sun when viewing out the sides of the canopy. Since I always fly late afternoons or early mornings, and I fly using TrackIR with my head on a swivel, the Legacy just sits in my hanger (except for an occasional night or noon time hop) So if their Cessna doesn't exhibit this graphical behavior I'll buy it too! (keeping my fingers crossed) It bugs ME guys please don't flame me if it doesn't you. BTW the Lionheart Fairchild has the solar light cone effect on my system too, but its only when the sun is straight ahead, not on the sides, exact opposite of the Legacy, on the Legacy the sun looks normal when viewed straight ahead. Any suggestions what I might try to null the effect much appreciated.

Odd thing, I saw this for the first time flying the Legacy yesterday - it may have been there before and I missed it...

See I was expecting A2A to do an older model 172 and RealAir a newer one, we will have to wait and see because they are both awesome companies. Ill be getting the A2A first for sure though.

Yeah slipped by me for a while too, but I was flying it around noon time when the sun is out of sight. Then I bought UTX Alaska and the sun was pretty low on the horizon, and it jumped out like being invaded by aliens lol. If you turn off the canopy reflections it goes away, but their canopy reflections look pretty cool, so I didn't want to do that either. I'm thinking maybe if I increase the dosage on my OCD medication, it might go away :Hypnotized:

I'll only buy one so it'll boil down to the following:

1.  DX10 support

2.  GoFlight Support

I've got the RealAir Duke and Turbine Duke and they work with both 1 and 2 above.  But I agree, both A2A and RealAir have produce some great products in the past.

EDIT: After watching that A2A video I'm very impressed!

1.  DX10 support

I could be wrong, but I believe every add-on is DX10 compatible considering that FSX native add-ons are compiled with the FSX SDK tools. Whether or not it supports VC shadows is up to the developer to configure (it's a very easy thing to enable).

That's true, but Dx10 self shadowing requires more or less closed geometry. You have to be careful to avoid gaps in the shadows.

A2A C172 will have full Dx10 support with self shadowing in VC though.

VC Shadowing is included in Steve Parson's DX10 Fixer, and is applicable to aircraft where it was not originally modeled by the dev. (though not including legacy aircraft)
