September 15, 201312 yr Thanks for organizing that. Traffic for Dubai was more than one Cross the Pond airport has. Departure LAGV: Regards, Christoph Reppel (FSX, Win7 64-bit, I7)
September 15, 201312 yr Awesome event, just landed about the same time as the guys I departed with 13 hours ago. The amount of traffic in the Dubai area was unreal! I feel really bad for that first Approach controller :( Had to leave the area and Hold until another came online, luckily one did and got on the ground. David Zambrano, CFII, CPL, IGI I know there's a lot of money in aviation because I put it there.
September 15, 201312 yr Man i would love to listen to OMDB tower right now. Looking at vatspy it must be nuts! It is actually going very well. I'm extremely impressed with the handling of traffic. Tower is nice and calm and all is well, surprisingly. I wasn't thinking that they controllers would be able to pull this off. Awesome event, just landed about the same time as the guys I departed with 13 hours ago. The amount of traffic in the Dubai area was unreal! I feel really bad for that first Approach controller :( Had to leave the area and Hold until another came online, luckily one did and got on the ground. You weren't very far ahead of me. B) I was the 4th or 5th to leave Memphis, Apparently I didn't drop back too far. Thanks for organizing that. Traffic for Dubai was more than one Cross the Pond airport has. Departure LAGV: Is that FSInn? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although exhausting, this was a blast! Thanks to the guys at FedExVAC and all the controllers that were up early for the departure, the ones who stayed up late for our arrival and everyone in between. I made the trip in about 14 1/2 - 15 hours. Not bad. And on that note, I've got to get out of the house for a while. I watched my beloved Aggies loose to Bama and didn't see more than 10 or 20 minutes of daylight today so needless to say, I've come down with "cabin fever". Can't wait to see everybody's screenshots. September 15, 201312 yr Have to say that I really understand such heavy situation pressuring on controllers there.... but during the last segment of the flight I have been given no any ATC instructions during the CTR and APP... not even enter a hold there. Just let me keep the heading and said to me CALL YOU LATER, then forgot me :( Finally, I did not land at Dubai while I suffered "Run Out of Memory" issue on my FSX that actually it rarely happened on my computer. What a nightmare on this. As I said, I am not trying to impugn any of controllers there tonight. I think no one can handle this traffic density alone without dense preparation and coordination with other controllers. In addition, some pilots did not respond the controller's transmission efficiently. All of these factors may influence seriously the controllers' performance. yeah, hope you guys all have a good landing at dubai and good night -_- FDX904 Yu Yu Xiong
September 15, 201312 yr It was an excellent event - thank you for organizing FedEx. ACARS assigned 100% load. Got out of Memphis on time. Great controlling in Memphis and Dubai. FSX didn't crash. No holds for me. Landed with a lot of fuel as a result. DAL641 KMEM-OMDB - my album Jason BocheDelta Virtual Airlines Assistant Chief Pilot, B767-300
September 15, 201312 yr Is that FSInn? Yes, that is FSInn with B777 models from http://www.the-fruit-stand.com/. Regards, Christoph Reppel (FSX, Win7 64-bit, I7)
September 15, 201312 yr Great event indeed. Had not had that much ATC coverage on any previous flight. On approach, I missed the localizer, as the vectored heading turned out to be parallel to the localizer. I noticed that too late, and didn't intercept the glideslope. I tried to correct it but ended up in a very unstable approach. As I had no contact with the tower at the time (probably because I was using text), I thought going around could cause havoc. Made the decision to disconnect and went around and landed offline. Still, a great flight. Marc
September 15, 201312 yr Great event Nick. Had a blast. Coordination of traffic merging into Dubai was perfect. The controllers did their best but it is hard when people don't listen and do long incorrect readbacks. Holding instructions came a little late to get it programmed into the FMC. Nothing like manuelly flying a published hold though. Congrats on a well planned event. Cheers, FDX50. Michael Gadeberg
September 15, 201312 yr It was very nice to see all those planes flying into my home city... Sadly the Bahrain and UAE centers appeared overwhelmed at times and as result pilots were forgotten in holdings or some indefinite vectors to nowhere (including me)... Anyway, thanks for the huge effort! I would love to see another event of such scale soon. Regards, Martin Martinov / VATSIM 1207931
September 15, 201312 yr So I got to around 200 miles from top of descent and my internet died. Only just came back online 15 hours later. Not very happy .
September 15, 201312 yr :( Got my first OOM error on approach into Dubai...probably too much traffic + heavy scenery. However, it was a great flight with so much ATC coverage, looking forward to the CTP event next month!! Alvin Lee / WSSS
September 15, 201312 yr Captains, We are thrilled to hear that everyone enjoyed themselves. The amount of work and planning that was done has surely paid off and that is because of you the pilots and the controllers. It was a great feeling (one that is equal to a first kiss, first child, or the first person to say they would marry you) to see all of the traffic flowing out of KMEM, BIKF and LGAV! Thank you again for your participation and enjoy your R & R! More info will follow. Joseph Kerr
September 15, 201312 yr Author Gents- I would like to take a moment to personally extend my gratitude to all of you who participated in our Triple Ripple event. Each of you played a critical role in making this the best event in the history of FedEx Virtual Air Cargo. And on top of that, I'm sure anyone who saw us on VATSIM will have that in their memory for a long time. I would also like to applaud the efforts of all those who were online as controllers. I was impressed at the handling of traffic at all four locations and in between... Even at the places where the controller was overwhelmed, they handled it better than I would have expected. They did what they were capable of with what they had, and I could not have asked for a more successfully event because of theirs and your combined efforts. I will be separately addressing the ARTCCs/FIRs and supporters via email later today. Prize Winners The prizes were drawn this morning by myself with one person overseeing the process who did not want to be in the drawing. Each prize was listed out in a program, shuffled, and then assigned a number. Therefore we have nine prizes that were numbered from 1-9. Next, all participant's names were entered into the program, shuffled multiple times, and then, in the same manner, nine people were drawn. Next, those nine people were shuffled and then assigned a number, ending up with nine people assigned a number from 1-9. In the end, the person who's number matched a prize number gets the prize. The list of these winners is below, and each winner will be contacted within 48 hours for details on the prize. If, after contacting the person, we do not hear back in a reasonable amount of time, we will re-draw from the entire list for a new recipient.
